I bought a Grizzly 14" bandsaw and also a drill press this past summer. I really enjoy the quality of these products. Personally I like that these tools are god awful heavy and I'm looking to purchase more of them soon to do more of my own personal projects. Enjoyed the video.

That is a big lathe! Looks like a lathe that gives you what you wanted for a price you were willing to pay. I haven't had to pour from a gallon can but I will be ready when I do. Thanks for sharing. I know how much time it takes to make a video.

With a big lathe, you can turn little work, but, with a little lathe you can't turn big work. That's the reason I went big as I could afford. It is really working out well. I need to review my own video, I can't remember what I said about pouring from a gallon can. Thanks Mike, Larry 10 minutes later, I went back and looked and I didn't remember it because I pour that way automatically anyway.

Thanks for the review. You've had the entire Grizzly experience. They offer some very capable machines at an inexpensive price. If everything works right, you have a machine that does the job while lacking some of the nicer (but unnecessary) features from a "brand name" maker. On the other hand, when things go wrong, you need to be able to fix it yourself. One of the ways Grizzly cuts costs is by not stocking replacement parts and providing a support team that can repair their equipment. They don't provide the same level of support as traditional vendors because if they did they'd need to charge as much as traditional vendors. For most hobbiests, that's a decent trade off. Grizzly has many satisfied customers who swear by their machines and only a few who swear at them. Buyers just need to understand what they're buying -- including the amount of service after the sale.

I have to say that I started buying from Grizzly when their only store was in Bellingham as well as the warehouse and tech dept. At that time they had really great customer service. I noticed a sharp decline when they branched out to the East Coast and Midwest. Three or four years ago I bought a 14 inch wood bandsaw and a 12 x 36 gunsmith lathe from them and found their customer service had really declined. Some of the issues were just easier to fix without their help than fight their "never saw that before" attitude. Disappointing as I had rebuilt a eight inch metal lathe from them a few years earlier and their tech dept was nothing but helpful. It makes me unhappy to see such developments as I had been quite impressed with them and bought a lot of tools from them. Seems to be a case of getting too big, too fast where the relationship with the customer goes by the wayside. Take care. Doug

I sorta accidentally pulled out that pin on the indexing wheel, and I think it might be "off" where it was before I messed with it (but only a tiny amount bc I didn't move anything very much). It's now set with the thickest part of the cross-pin pointed to the left and sitting on the high side of the collar, in a groove. The big knob moves freely. Did I screw something up? I've had my G0800 for over a year and never started it bc I'm not sure about that "pin must be pulled out or it can damage the machine" warning label (plus a few other factors). Cost too much to break it , LOL. I appreciate any advice you can give.

I guess you mean the locking pin. I've had to replace mine three times. The whole thing just screws out, housing and all. They are about $10 from griz. Hope that helped, Larry

@@TheWoodWhirler I was trying to find out if by my pulling it out without knowing what it does might have damaged something. After messing with it, the dial is set a little to the left of the 0 degree mark. And is the knob supposed to turn freely?

I suppose not when you can get a really great lathe at harbor freight for only a few hundred bucks. I bought a 3/4 hp pile from there about 10 years ago, ($119 I think) and it took me over 2 hours to turn a 36" spindle.

I have never ordered machinery from Grizzy (other things) but I am not impressed on how they wanted to take care of the issue. They don't have a better relationship with the manufacturer in China? Not good.
@TheWoodWhirler
@TheWoodWhirler 6 жыл бұрын
Well, I don't necessarily agree with you. I have lots of Grizzy products and am very satisfied. This was an unusual problem I went up the chain and they all told me mine was first and that part was not stocked. I have no reason not to believe them. Now as far as their relationship with Philippines not China, I don't stand that either. They did take the part out of a floor model and sent it to me. Don't let my experience sour you. They actually give you the most bang for the buck than any one else. Take care and thank you, Larry

They said they had never had this problem before, so the part wasn't stocked. But. I got one in a few days, problem solved. That's the only problem I've had and I've had the lathe a year and half now, going strong. You shouldn't have any problems. Take care, Larry

I was talking with Harvey through email in China about ordering this same lathe from them, ($2400) but after shipping across ocean and then freight from port I would only be saving maybe a couple hundred bucks. So Ill just order from Grizzly, however Im considering the Laguna 2436 which is the same price but he Grizzly 0800 seems a little better to me and it has the swing away tail stock which the Laguna does not. I think the Grizzly is the better lathe.
@TheWoodWhirler
@TheWoodWhirler 6 жыл бұрын
I looked at the Laguna 2436 and reached the same conclusion at you. Grizzly 800 give you quite a bit more for the money. It's heavier, 3hp vs 2hp, 48" vs 36" and so on. I like the swing out, but it still gets in your way, especially with long handle tools. Still, a much better deal. Take care, Larry
