Hello old timer I have not seen you for a while. I just want to say I enjoyed all your videos. God bless and hope you are still turning.

I love this! I've really been seeking the best 'punky wood' treatment since it would open up a lot of turning options. I'm gonna give sealer a try, perhaps I was giving up on it as an option too early with only a coat or two. Makes total sense it would take much more. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful bowl! I see this video is 6 years old, have you had more progress or further refined technique for punky wood since this? I plan on browsing your video collection but wouldn't mind being pointed in the right direction if there is more to your 'punky wood journey' :)

I wish I had bought one of these when they still had them. I always knew they could be converted for metal for a small amount of money but now all of their lathes are a pittance in size compared to this one.

This is only the second video of yours I've seen. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time waiting for the bowl to launch! Take a guess which video I saw first. Thank goodness you kept it together. I will be going through your videos for sure. Thanks!

Thank you again for the video. What type of glue did you use at first, before you covered it up with the sawdust?
@TheWoodWhirler6 ай бұрын
Not glue, Winwax water-based sealer. You want to make a paste out of sealer and sawdust. Then rub it in. A little messy, but worth it. Larry

Could I ask, what are you wearing on your face to protect your face while you are using your lathe? I see a piece of leather hanging down and want to get something that will protect me while I am working. Thank you very much for this awesome video!

Standard face,ast with a piece of leather to protect my neck attached to the bottom. That's it. Thanks, Larry

you have to sharper the bit the same way you sharpen round carbide bits on the face of the bit one cutting edge will cut and the other one wont just like a twist drill
@TheWoodWhirler9 ай бұрын
Thanks for your concern. However, this is a wood drill bit, not an end mill or steel drill bit. The tolerances are not as important unless there are unreasonably large differences. Minor differences would go totally unnoticed. Take care, Larry
@DonnJaegger9 ай бұрын
you screw up the cutting edge by filing the top of the cutting edge you have to file the face like a router bit other wise you will not have the same cutting depth on both sides

Lets save ACKS! I've been in touch with Tom from ACKS abrasive paste. They are about to shut down their business do to sagging sales. They are a small mom n pop operation and make/sell a couple of great products at a VERY reasonable price. Fellow turners lets support this small business.

I agree, great product. I hope Tom's health isn't getting the best of him. They are good people.

That depends on a lot of factors. Normally if I'm not in a hurry and don't want cracks, I set it at 95F for at least 24 hours.
