I have never cooked my own beans before but FINALLY got around to making some black beans in the crock pot last week. I definitely want to do it more often. And I made hummus for the first time too! It was How Jen Does It's recipe. Do you use the wal mart savings catcher app?

Maureen Cairney I relooked up your comment tonight because I made the hummus finally! It's delicious. I actually used a SNAP challenge recipe (cooking on food stamp-level of grocery money). Here's the recipe: www.budgetbytes.com/2014/09/snap-challenge-peanut-butter-hummus/ Let me know what you think if you try it!

Whoa, your gas is super cheap! Our gas is at $3.30!!

thereaderbug We bottomed out at $1.75/ a galleon in February, but it's starting to go back up. I'm not complaining about $2.15 cent gas though - it's been awesome for my budget!

When gas got close to $5/gal, I told myself that I'd never complain about anything under $4 so I am trying to look at the bright side. We never went under $2 but it was a bit lower a few weeks ago. It seems to have spiked up in our area very quickly,
