They have a low income in Georgia, so the prices are more acceptable for foreigners. As for alcohol, they drink too much wine here, many families have a private cellar where they strain the wine. Personally, I prefer beer.

Similar prices as in Romania, or even higher, except those 5kg rice and pasta, they are really cheap. I expected some lower prices though.
@senyor_artemis
@senyor_artemis 9 ай бұрын
Actually, the prices for rice and pasta in big packages are quite high... Here in Belgium, you would get good quality rice for 1 euro per kilo, and no need to buy a huge pack. The same goes for fusilli... So it is more or less the same, or even a bit more expensive, than in Belgium, and that's crazy, cause the salaries in Georgia are much lower...
@maritacherry6871
@maritacherry6871 9 ай бұрын
Locals buy pasta and rice per kilo as well! Not usually packaged ones. Kilo rice costs less than 1 euro here, around 2-2,50 lari
@senyor_artemis
@senyor_artemis 9 ай бұрын
@@maritacherry6871 well it’s still 85 cents, and in Belgium it’s 1 euro and it will be packed already, so you can buy several packs and have “portions”, instead of buying a huge bag of it…

Unfortunately, due to the low income and small salaries, the majority of prices shown in this video are above average or high, at least for locals. There are many other places Tbilisi where you can get the same or better products for way cheaper prices. As for the tourists though, Georgia is a very cheap country and probably a must see destination, especially if you consider how much of different stuff you can see, do and experience there. And I'm not even talking about food or hospitality yet, which are beyond great of course. Edit: Also majority, about 80% of the products shown in this video are imported from different countries since Georgia produce very small variety of things. Well of course I don't mean wine, cheese, bread and some other stuff. There is no problem with that there.

@beastynibba
@beastynibba 7 ай бұрын
@@EnesinSefaretnamesi In most cases, all markets have generally the same prices across all products. If you are on a budget, just stay away from Goodwill, Smart and shops next to the gas stations. Don't get me wrong, those are good groceries with quality products but not for a budget traveler.

@@DragonbaneETHEREAL Not gonna lie, I have no clue whatsoever what potentially can cost you 800-1000 Lari for 50 items. That's a huge stretch in my opinion cuz those are exactly the average salary in Georgia and spending literally every dime on groceries is just unrealistic. I guess you had a lot of stuff beside groceries.

*1:50* Funny you say that, because that's definitely an above average price for a bread, most bread here costs 80 tetri to 1GEL To answer your *8:31* question, it's mostly because Georgia has very bad paying jobs, and thus a low overall price of products, quite a good quantity of which are locally produced. As a result, things that have globally standartized price, like McDonalds, turn out very expensive for us. For us Georgians, these market prices are a fair bit higher than European prices for Europeans, but for foreigners in Georgia, it's an absolute bargain.

i've been to Tbilisi Georgia, in June 2024, even typically i have visited the exact same carrefour market store. Comparing it with UAE's Dubai and Abu Dhabi Carrefour, it looks quite similar, of course in Georgia over there they used to serve Khachapuri and more of the Georgian bread. The fruits, vegetables mostly from Georgia with some from Turkey, and a few from Russia, unlike in UAE's Carrefour where it is mostly International with a few from UAE. Carrefour UAE barely puts any music, but this Carrefour in Georgia, they put a lot of music, especially Espresso by the beautiful Sabrina Carpenter filling the supermarket.

Looks like 35% of the products are imported from Turkey, according to the packages, another 35% are from Russia, and the last 30% are purely Georgian products. And on those local Georgian products, the labels are in 4 languages - Georgian, English, Russian and Turkish. And really nice prices for most things, although Carrefour was never known for being a discounter or a cheap chain.

The Russian writings for some products are not always linked to Russia in any way. Some products are from Belorus (which uses same font) and Ukraine (pretty similar font), also, some European companies that distribute products in Georgia use different packages for different global regions and they (unfortunately) use Russian language for post-soviet countries to make it less costly for themselves... so you might find russian-font packaging in McDonalds boxes for example, even though these boxes doesn't come from Russia. If you convert the value of our GEL in US dollars, then it is a low price for you. But the salary we get here in Georgia is very low. Everything is expensive, it is almost impossible to live. Either you have to work 1 job and spend 1-2 weeks of salary on food or you have to work 2-3 jobs to have some money left for yourself. Most of the money is spent on food and the government doesn't care, the main thing is that their pockets are full of money. Even water is expensive in the country of water.

We are always affected by inflation 😂 prices are at least doubled compared to 2-3 years ago. It seems cheep only for people who get income from developed countries, for locals most of the things they showed are considered expensive. If you live here and work remotely and get payed in $ for example than it will be affordable.

@@annats4439 I remember the good old days in the 90's when my father, with what it was considered a good wage (officer in the army) was making like $50 a month... 🙃

@@morganangel340 yeh but prices are like 10x more now than in 90s, and 90s were the hardest period for the country anyways.

I'm so confused? Everyone is saying how expensive stuff is getting, people move to Turkey just for better prices. Surprise to see you gushing about the prices here!

The prices are too much for Georgians. The incomes are too low. 1 lari equals 2.7 bucks or something so it makes sense why prices seem too low for foreigners. Not everything is as nice as it seems. And about moving to Türkiye for shopping, yes that's true. Türkiye's prices are lower than ours ( from our point of view, and from salary), so that's another way of saving money when shopping in Türkiye stuff for the whole month, in just some hundreds of laris. (Barely reachs 500l per month shopping there)

Wow, prices are actually high. Literally Latvian-level prices and Latvia is more expensive than, for example, Poland. Inflation and the war really fucked Georgia up economically : (
