Lucas and Jon show what grooming behavior can look like, how it can feel, and how to see your way out of it. It can be your boss or someone who you think as a friend and mentor.

I got abused by my gym coach from ages 15-17. However, I took me until recently (I’m 22 now) to realise this. Had no idea at all at the time as I was a naive kid. I’m from a very broken home (alcohol abuse, domestic violence) so was a vulnerable kid. Fitness was literally my life at that point and my escape from my harsh household. Slowly what started off as a coach/ student relationship turned into a weird relationship. He’d call me his son, offer me lifts home, overly praise me, guilt trip me whenever I wanted to leave, invite me into his home. I can’t believe I fell for it for so long. Still I haven’t recovered til this day.

I told my brothers and my dad about a story I heard where a young boy, 10-12 years old, was raped by his 20-something year old babysitter and she got pregnant. Their reaction? "Go, little man!" It disgusted me. It STILL disgusts me. This mindset of "oh men can’t be sexually assaulted, by women especially" or "dang, how lucky" is freaking hideous. I hate it. What is wrong with our society?

I hate when people disregard online grooming or say to “just block them”
@Combinemetrocop2 ай бұрын
Yeah don’t block them send the messages to the authorities
@ari6382 ай бұрын
Right? Because much like irl grooming, online grooming can be disguised as friendship for a long time and can creep up on you from there. I was groom online from 14-18 by a group of older guys. I was vulnerable, since I'd been picked on severely at school and didn't realise how much I needed some reassurance/praise/affection. I did block them shortly after my 18th birthday, when I realised enough was enough and plucked up the courage to run, but once a groomer is in your head they have many ways of dissuading you from blocking them, by getting you to depend on them or feel like you owe them a favour or such.

He bought me food, asked me if I liked going to the movies or if I was seeing anyone, hugged me really tightly once. Dude was a weirdo for sure. Luckily, some of my other co-workers warned me about him and told me to say I was in a relationship. I remember feeling very uncomfortable 🤦♂️

I believed him because he was my best friend, I saw him as a son (it was all online). He praised me and told me weird things and called me uncomfortable names. As a woman who doesn’t see a lot of male victims a lot, I’m glad to see one here. People always think that woman are so weak and think that they need to be protected, but what about males? Any person no matter what gender can be groomed or sexually abused. I met a nice male who has been sexually abused by another male, even though he isn’t gay. I used to be groomed and sexually abused when I was 10, but now that I am 14, I have learned to detect a parent, or defend myself. Woman can be creeps too, and males can be sexually abused as well. To those who think that you don’t belong, you do. You are valid and heard. You all have my heart.

It took me three years to recover from trauma after I was sexually abused by my workmate from work since I was 20 and now I’m 23. Having PTSD is a serious mental problem, so in my opinion if you guys are experiencing flashback or difficulty of relieving yourself, talk to psychiatrist/psychologist. After watching the video about church, I don’t want to say this but it is sometimes true that there are some pastors who likes to manipulate you if you’re reliable to their church. If someone is touching you or you don’t feel comfortable to be treated by flirting on you, you have the rights to speak up on yourself because if you didn’t speak up for yourself, your enemy wouldn’t stop disrespecting you. I want to also add that in my opinion as a young guy who was sexually abused by 30 years old women, mens have also rights to slap the women if they sexually assaulted men.

Grooming can happen to adults. It happened to me at my last job(I was 31/32 at the time).This 55 year old man who worked in the deli told me that he saw me as more than a friend, after having friendly conversations and giving me little gifts or money. I told my bosses who told him to stay away from me, but he didn't listen. I told my dad, who's a 6' 4" grizzly bear of a trucker, and he came to my work one day(I was on my lunch break when he came). When the guy came in for his shift, he immediately came to me and tried to give me money, but I insisted that he keep it. When he got to the backroom, my boss took him back where my dad was waiting, and he told my dad that he was a "Christian man who believed in marriage before sex", which made my dad furious and he tried to play dumb and said he was "a little slow" when my dad told him I had said I didn't see him the way he saw me and that the gifts and money giving made me uncomfortable. He warned him that if he didn't stay away from me, period, that the law would get involved. He pretty much quit his job in the deli after that. But about a month later, he showed up at church one Sunday, and my mom and I sat as far away from him as we could get. He testified in church saying that he wanted to thank his "Good friend Lauren" for encouraging him to go to church again and said that he'd been sick for a while and asked the church to pray for him to get better. After the service, my mom and I were going to a baptism later that afternoon and we were waiting on our friends to finish up so we could all hang out until it was time to go to the baptism. Well, old Herbert the pervert came up behind me while I was talking to my friends and placed a hand on my shoulder, asking how I was and acting like he never confessed his feelings to me a month ago. I tensed up, but I never said a word and kept my back to him. He said he was ready to talk whenever I was and walked off. My friends noticed how tense I was and my face was almost paper white and I was shaking(he came to church the Sunday before he told me that he loved me and when we were getting ready to leave, he told my mom and I that he didn't want any of the kids near his van because he had "weapons of self defense" in there). My mama told my friend's dad what was going on and asked if he could distract him while we made our way to the car. He tried to follow us, but my friend's dad insisted that they go out the other door. Thankfully my mama and I were in her car, doors locked, etc., when he stepped outside and looked around like he was looking for us. After that we filed for an order of protection and we came to the agreement that he he would not be allowed at our church, the grocery store where I was working, or anywhere near me. I've changed jobs since then, but the whole thing scared me so bad, that I never leave my house without my pepper spray or pocket knife. Thankfully I haven't seen hide or tail or him, and I hope it stays that way

There are so many different kinds of situations where sexual abuse can happen, and it can happen to anyone. Males, females, children, adults. It can happen in a workplace, in a school, in your own home. I can’t believe this still happens. It’s really not okay. I’m glad we have people like you raising awareness about these kinds of things.

He gained trust and manipulated and talked about..explicit stuff with me and all that stuff..I knew it was wrong and I was so scared. But I didn’t tell anyone because at the same time I cared about him.. I *trusted* him. One day when I turned 12 I finally had enough of what he was doing to me and so I left a server he put me in , unfriended him and blocked him. I’m so glad I could get myself out of that situation and I’m glad nothing happened to me physically..though the disgusting shit he talked about and said to me and asked me to do (obvi refused) still sticks with me.. Though I’m free now :))

I’m glad to see someone using the term “grooming” properly to refer to a legitimate and actual threat that could come from anyone, rather than misusing it to refer to LGBTQ+ people (and trans people specifically) to dehumanize them And more importantly, it’s great to show that predators are typically more likely to be people who know you well than total strangers. It can come from anyone, and “stranger danger” isn’t enough to be safe from it. This is very helpful.

My whole life my mom told me that when I was a small child, she just assumed everyone was a pedophile by default. That always seemed so extreme to me until I realized what she meant as I got older: these things happen because people say "Oh he would never do that! Oh she's not that kind of person!" And at that point it's too late. Not everyone is a pedophile, and most people would never harm a child. But don't ever convince yourself that someone is incapable of doing so, because that's what allows abuse to happen right in front of you, in school, in public, or in your very home.

I’m happy that they show men because they ignored abuse that happens to men, they act like men can’t be victims.
@Chhana_Me15 сағат бұрын
Honestly that is no more true. It sure isnot commonly represented but irl, most if them are no more ignored. Internet is not everything

My teacher used to say that women can’t be creeps or can’t sexually assault a man.I told them that women can 100% be creeps too,no matter the gender. Sometimes people can’t understand this topic..
@mediaknight Жыл бұрын
I’m glad the female abuser just looks like an average woman and not a gross monster. Never understood why in these situations in fiction women had to be inhumanly ugly or else you couldn’t justify a man not enjoying their advances. Her approach also isn’t overly creepy, just a tender kiss, but he is still completely justified in not liking it.

This is animated very well. This is the sort of things schools should show. They always show only women in these situations and the videos are always such a poor quality.

I was Lucas, i help him bcs i thought i was helping God. I was a clueless teenager, i didn't see any red flags bcs he was hiding it perfectly in front of others. It happened inside the church, in his office, i was helping him with his sermon projector presentation. Every few day has been a fawkin nightmare since. I became depressed and slowly loosing my faith. Now I'm 21, and until this day i cant handle physical touch with other people without this nightmare. I've only told 1 person ever in real life.

As a Christian, seeing a church leader groom another person is like watching a demon without a disguise. I pray that this stuff with abuse and grooming will be over.

I feel so bad for the rep that awful people give genuine Christians and Catholics. Majority of those religions are made up of kind, compassionate, and decent human beings. Everyone who wishes harm on others for being different and/or having different beliefs are not true christians/catholics.

I like the mention of the “every guy’s dream, right?” idea. So many sexual abuse victims that are male are told that it’s a boy’s fantasy, especially when a male student is abused by a female teacher. Not only are they downplaying the seriousness of the abuse, but they’re also glorifying it, which is truly awful.
