@@RyanBassForLifei have 3 NVX vcw 12s and love them especially for about a bill a piece i paid direct before everyone knew about them. They sound great and can get low and hit plenty hard enough. Ran a single 12” on a Korean half bridge 1600 rms amp and the sub never even got warm.

Try the NVX in a sealed box. My dad has a 15" in a sealed box and it shakes his suv.

I've found that sealed enclosures and suv's don't go well together. The large interior volume cancels out your upper frequencies and then the sealed enclosure limits your lower frequencies. You end up with a very narrow usable frequency range which gives you one note bass. I tend to use ported enclosures and tune it low like 27 or 30 Hz to get the most usable frequency range. I would have him try that. Of course, you should use whatever you think sounds best.

I gotta say it. You can't judge a driver by the size of it's motor. I'm not sure why your comparing motors and saying one is better than the other. They look comparable to me. There's no drastic difference. In fact, if the design and tolerances of the Hydrogen are higher, it could be better than the NVX. I think comparing motors distracts from the point you were making, which is "pricing is complicated". In theory, you could have 2 different companies making identical subwoofers in every way. One company may have to charge much more than the other company. Factors such as how much time and money was put into research development and testing, how much overhead the company has, how much they pay their employees, cost of shipping based on where they are and on and on. I don't think it's fair to say that a person is being "robbed". That's a very exaggerated opinion. My opinion is that people who don't have money to waste should focus on products that give the most performance for the least money. The best bang for the buck. The car audio hobby should be a fun hobby, so if someone feels good about buying a Ground Zero product, let them go ahead and buy it and enjoy it. 👍

If everything else is similar, yes, you can compare motor size. MB was merely pointing out that one company hides the size of the actual motor. Maybe ask why the company did that. You left out one cost for companies, marketing. Some do it deceptively. And you think that if ppl know there are companies deceiving their customers, we should say nothing. Nope.

@derrick_v How the heck can we tell if everything else is similar? Not only would you have to tear the driver apart to measure the gauss and the voice coil gaps, but how could you even model the magnetic fields? Only high level speaker engineers have that equipment. You might be able to compare the specs, such as Bl, Xmax, sensitivity, Vas, etc... but those may not be accurate. So no, you can't judge a driver by it's motor size. Even MB has said this. Second, they don't appear to be hiding the motor size. That's just an assumption or opinion. There are legitimate reasons that boot might be shaped like that and be 1.8mm thicker than the other. It might be easier to mold, more durable, or simply to look nicer. It doesn't have to be a conspiracy. Most engineers, even Kip from Kicker, will tell you that the boot doesn't affect the heat dissipation. It's main function is to protect the fragile ferrite magnets from getting chipped as well as for cosmetic reasons. Lastly, yes, marketing is another is a long list of expenses thar can effect the final price. 👍

@@derrick_v the coil is a bigger factor than the motor in many aspects. You could have a 300lb neo motor but if you have a single layer, cheap coil it is meaningless. The motor provides the filed, the coil takes the power and does the work and if the GZ has an 8 layer coil its going to do more than a the NVX if it has a 2 layer coil. Copper, aluminum, and CCA play a role as well in the coilce between handlingd heat, power, and the weight of the coil as well as the suspension and overall moving mass. The actual suspension is also a huge part and a very still sub is going to use a lot of power from the amp just to keep moving before it can even produce sound. A good motor can suggest a good sub but just comparing motors to motors is not an accurate way to rate a sub

You lost any credibility you had with this video. SPL DOES NOT EQUAL SOUND QUALITY. Maybe you should try listening to real music instead of Hip Hop/Rap. Put them both in a recommended enclosure and lister to Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. The GZ is a SQ sub, not an SPL sub.
