Wonderful ideas here. I especially love the hide the flashcards game which then encorporates playing the flashcard upon finding it . . . also the touch techniques on the table which work with the difference between using the wrist and the arm. I'd love to see more of these kinds of ideas. Thanks for posting.

I'm starting to like group piano teaching. Seems much more fun than the 1:1 I had.

@okiou456: I disagree with your opinion that these are just music theory group lessons. As you saw in the video, Julie Knerr includes not just music theory, but also elements of piano technique, piano performance (getting used to playing for other people), and reinforcement of notes, keys, and rhythms.

Hi, for group lessons do you let any student join anywhere in the middle of the semester? Bcos the ones who are learning already, are way ahead the curriculum and the new joinee is an absolute beginner, in this case do let the new student come and join the lessons with the ones are way ahead? or u teach separately (individual attention)? Bcos in my studio, I teach 4 students together for group lessons and everyone is of different age and level (someone learning from 1yr and another just joined) I divide 60mins class into 4 students and I give each 15mins individual attention. And I ask everyone to keep their instrument volume a Lil lower so no oje is disturbed, but somehow I find this quite disturbing. Am i missing any trick here? I would appreciate your enlightening. Much thanks.

Love all these ideas! What book are you using for your improvisation? I’d like to incorporate this in my lessons. Thank you for your time! Wonderful things happening in your lessons! 🤩👏🏻👏🏻

I think Julie was using some short improvisation exercises from the Alfred's Group Piano for Adults books. It was the textbook that we used for college group piano classes when we were both graduate teaching assistants and had these short improvisation assignments with teacher accompaniments where students would either just improvise on black keys or 5-finger patterns.

Hi there, how do u teach group lessons? E.g if 3 joined in August, another 2 following month and one more in October. Do you teach all of them same piano piece at a time or individually (different piece to each student at a time as per their levels)? Bcs their levels doesn't match. How do u go about it?

The fee might be small for a studio class but getting parents to pay that in addition to paying for a private lesson every week impossible to me?!

Basically the students DONT play the piano at all. Is that a PIANO lesson??? You must be kiding me!!!
@MarioAjero7 жыл бұрын
Your statement that the students "don't play piano at all" is inaccurate. They perform for one another at 7:00, 8:51, and improvise at 9:05. I find the variety of activities focusing on rhythm, body awareness, note identification, feeling tempos, and creativity makes Dr. Knerr's group piano classes more engaging and beneficial in comparison to many private piano lessons that I've observed where the student just sits at the piano for the whole lesson.

There's much more to music lessons than just playing piano. These lessons are very valuable.they teach musicianship skills. Unless you're a teacher who just teaches piano, rather than teaching music. I am a music teacher who uses a piano to teach it. There is a vast difference imo.

oof, that's kind of like saying doing basketball drills is not playing basketball. Students have to work on skills to become better players.

@@wandabernabe6979 actually some schools in Russia do their lessons this way from what I’ve researched. ( this a country known for having a lot of piano prodigies). The kids have two lessons per week- a musicianship class and private lessons. These classes are both very valuable for very young musicians for developing mature musicianship.
