How is Grover's prevented and how is Grover's treated?

For what it is worth, Doc ... I have been treated for Grover's for 15 years by a Dermo-Doc who has been in that specialty for 40 years. He insisted Grover's is NOT an auto-immune condition (which I have always doubted) and treated me with Triamcinolone cream, topically applied, PRN, and with injectable Kenalog when things got really bad. For another reason, I began taking N-Acetyl Cystiene (an amino acid supplement) three monbths ago, 600 mg 2X daily. Within a month, my Grover's symptoms abated by 90%.

OK. Now, tell us about an effective treatment for Grover’s, please.

As a pathologist, I only diagnose skin disease, I don’t treat it. So I’m not a treatment expert. But my general understanding is that Grover’s can be difficult to treat and frustrating for patients. If you are suffering from it, I am sorry to hear it. Best wishes for good health.

I have always found Dermpath very difficult with different patterns and overlapping features but since I started watching your videos I think is becoming understandable and easier for me!!! Thank you a lot

Hey my friend... I have Grover's disease and I'm only 28. I've had it for about 7 years and it always starts either in winter when I have lots of clothes on or.. right now when it is very hot and I am sweating very much. I am living in Queensland, Australia right now and it is unbearable... What would you suggest for a treatment? I feel like nothing really helps... I would very much appreciate if you could give a little comment on my question 🙏🏼

So sorry to hear this! Unfortunately I only know how to diagnose this, but I don’t have experience with treating it. I have heard it can be difficult to treat and uncomfortable so I’m sorry you are dealing with it. Please see your dermatologist so they can confirm diagnosis and give you best advice about treatment options. Best wishes for health and healing.

My dermatologist gives a cortisone cream but it's not helpful at all. I do best with tea tree oil

@Living4Jesus4Ever I was only getting so far with the Tea Tree Oil, unfortunately I stepped it up to a steroid cream. (Not my first choice) but after months of trying to manage it, I decided to use what my skin doctor recommended

Just found out I have Grovers Disease. 37 women here and heard more men get it. I believe mine comes from stress. I'm very small and do not sweat a lot. I am glad they finally figured it out after 2 years.

Sorry to hear that. I know it can be a really frustrating skin problem for patients. And even though the classic presentation is older men and sweating a lot, it can definitely occur outside that setting. I’ve diagnosed it in younger adult women before. Best wishes for health and healing.

I am also a female sufferer and was diagnosed in my mid-20s. I'm now 31 (so much for it being transient! 😫) and luckily the affected area is smaller, but it comes and goes on my chest constantly. Living in FL it gets bad in the summer.

How deep do these structures exist into the skin and might some of these sites be removed via freezing/ nitrogen? I have a number of seemingly static areas. Thanks!

you mention that the eosinophilic cytoplasm is something you look for. I was taught that if the dyskeratosis is primarily eosinophilic to think of Hailey Hailey. I know HH is much for acantholytic and diffuse, but would you agree with eosinophilic cytoplasms as a more specific sign for HH vs Grovers?
@JMGardnerMD
@JMGardnerMD 4 жыл бұрын
Both diseases have eosinophilic cytoplasm. Agree that it is often more prominent in HH but not sure that is a specific or reliable finding on its own. HH supposedly has acantholysis with little or no true dyskeratosis (ie - no corps ronds or grains). Although I’ve seen cases of HH that had dyskeratosis. Clinical is most important way to distinguish as you said.

Really cool! I always learn a lot with your videos, tahnk you very much! Is there any clue or tip to distinguish between Grover's and Darier's disease? I mean histologically, of course.
@JMGardnerMD
@JMGardnerMD 5 жыл бұрын
Thx! If it’s big and multifocal I start thinking of Darier, but honestly they can look totally identical microscopically and clinical info is the key to truly distinguishing them.

Hi Jerad, my shave biopsy only came back with epidermal hyperplasia with hyperkeratosis and serum crust.... would that mean I have Grovers? I never got an actual answer from my dermatologist and they just continue to throw medicines at me that don't work. Please help me
