I purchased a couple of home mushroom growing kits, and I placed mine in my pantry. They grew wonderfully in there. My hubby didn't know that I bought them while he was out on the road. He came home one day and opened the pantry to find a few container with stuff growing out of them! The yelp that came from him made me laugh. But they were delicious and easy to grow. Whatever source you can get them, I highly recommend trying to grow your own mushrooms! Love how your little man wanted to be apart of this, best way for them to learn!

A wonderful learning experience for Colton. These are memories he will treasure for decades to come. He will probably share similar experiences with his children and grandchildren. A tribute to you and Terry as his grandparents for nurturing this. It's amazing how a teachable moment can generate such a wave of experiences. Thank you for sharing this with us and thank you for introducing this device. You did a great job as usual. All the best.

I forage all kinds of edible wild mushrooms that grow on our property. It’s been a great experience learning enough mycology to safely identify so many we can enjoy. The yellow oysters are actually a cultivated variety that has spread from mushroom farms and is considered very invasive in the wild, they were originally cultivated in Asia. I’ve been following it and can see just in a few years how much it’s spread, it’s really pretty incredible. Enjoy them!

What a fascinating video, thank you Steve and Colton. I'm wondering why you need to replace 'pod' so often, I would think it would come back again and again, like forever, like the morels I pick every spring. I can't wait to try it.
@SeriousKeto4 ай бұрын
The 'pods' are made with a specific blend of materials for optimal growth and to prevent cross-contamination. They start to get some blackish mold or fungus on them after 2 harvests, I’m assuming from the spores of the previous batch.

You don't need a $400 machine to grow mushrooms. I just put the grow kits on my kitchen counter and harvested mushrooms.
@finagill4 ай бұрын
Do you have an estimate as to the weight of mushrooms that 1 pod produced? Depending on what mushrooms they have, it could be worth it. Some varieties will be cheaper to buy from the store or farmer's market. If you simply cut some of the top off, will the mushrooms keep growing? The cut and come again method works well for lettuce.
@SeriousKeto4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, I didn't think to do that. If I do a follow-up video as we get closer to the US release, I will. In terms of harvesting, I was advised from the folks at Shrooly to grab the mushroom at the base and twist. I was told that it's pretty common to get two harvests and rare to get three. You can tell when you won't get more when the pod starts to have darker colored fungus and just little sickly looking mushrooms.

You're definitely paying a "convenience premium" to do less work and not have to worry about some of the sterilization aspects that go into growing mushrooms.
@JesseRizz10 күн бұрын
@@SeriousKeto I'm personally love the sterilization process and the agar work is my favorite it only takes me 90 minutes to perform that part so is it really worth it 🤔 I assume they over charge for simplicity especially if you want to scale up I must say I enjoy the family time you spent more then the product itself ❤️

Im sorry but not everything needs an app. Id worry about a) it becoming a monthly sub to pay for the app when they find they arent making enough money and b) the pods becoming more and more expensive. I remember my father growing mushrooms in the dark near the water heater when I was a child with gro-bags - maybe these more gourmet mushrooms need more tending but its not something Id ever use.
