What is the difference overall in barbell vs pendulum/hack squats? I only have the option of Smith squats and dumbbells at my gym currently, and will occasionally do a day pass at one with barbell and hack machines. My back prefers Smith or Hack though.

Kelly, I used to love doing the leg extensions, but I no longer go to a gym and haven't got the equipment. What's the best alternative exercise that builds the exact same muscles from leg extensions, and is there anything I can do to build monster quads by using resistance bands?

Question I have longer femurs so my body bends more forward during a back squat. Does this mean this isn't the most optimal exercise for my body if I'm trying to focus on quads. Should I focus on other exercises that don't compromise my form?
@nanaisloved27368 ай бұрын
Ahh I can't do heavy squats because of lower back pain (I do staggered squats instead) and can't do leg extension because of knee pain (it cracks and hurts like crazy immediately) so I've been focusing on deadlifts a lot to not feel down every single time and now I need to do more quad work💪🏼🔥👺

I’m a long femured guy myself. What always has help me is making sure my stance is wide enough and making sure I open my hips as I go down. Making sure your knees are slightly pointed out also helps with depth.
@Iamyahananjames6 ай бұрын
Get up more on your toes using that block angle she has, 6'3" all leg and when I squat on a plate or a wedge it helps us get lower into knee flexion. Don't widen your stance, it's gonna take a lot away from the vastus lateralis which is the biggest muscle of the quad and gives that sweep and places a lot of tension on the tear drop or inner quad muscle. You can also squat in the smith machine rack and use it's fixed angle to help you lean back so you don't fall👑💪🏽
@thecardclosetcanada54437 ай бұрын
I'm able to deep squat with no problem, I can sit in an Asian squat very comfortably with zero issue. When I back squat (flat footed), I go ass to grass. Iv started elevating my heels with small weights while still going to the floor, basically because it makes it harder to do (requires more all around effort). Because it's harder I'm assuming there's more benefit. I'm just wondering if this is true. If I already squat as low as possible flat footed, is there any reason to elevate my heels?

I am so off balance it's not even funny. I think until I get stronger and more balanced maybe I just need to squat with dumbbells, instead of a barbell for now. I just feel like I'm not really going to get any gaines with dumbbells though. If anyone could help me.

Front squats is a very technical lift. It’s elite for sure but it’s a hard lift
@ThePhysicalReaction8 ай бұрын
if you pre-exhaust your quads with leg extensions, the back squat comes very naturally, taxes your core less, and lets you really focus on driving through your heels and hitting those glutes in the squat motion. Why would you want to tax your core less if you can handle it? So you can do more dumbbell romanain dead lifts :)

Skip the Goblets and use a dumbbell in each hand and rest on top of shoulders. Much better for a front squat. Holding the dumbbell in a goblet will be limited by having to hold it up in front of you. You can load it much more with 2 dumbs resting on your shoulders.
