Grow These 15 Seeds in February

February is the perfect month to start and grow your seeds into seedlings. You can start seeds of variety of winter, spring and some even summer vegetables. Make sure to start seeds indoors and plant the winter and spring seeds 3 to 4 weeks after seedling become 2 inches or taller. Wait until the danger of frost is over before transplanting summer seeds outside. Happy Gardening!

I grow a lot of tomatoes here in MO and find it doesn’t help to start them so early. I did a comparison experiment two years ago and found that plants I started from seed in early April and larger greenhouse grown transplants grown side by side had very little difference in dates for first fruit. The smaller seedlings “caught up” to the larger transplants within two weeks after a mid May planting into my garden. This might differ with F1 varieties (I only grow OP), but that’s my experience. This is a great video, and I appreciate the straightforward information on temperatures and zones for early planting. Too many gardening videos never mention those things! Love the way you do your onions, and I will be using that method this year!

Really depends on where you live. Jag and I are both 9B in Central California. Our average last frost date is listed as Feb 15th. Your probably zone 6 and it said April 20-30 for your last frost. I don't know what your summer is like but we get brutally hot early and get little rain. We're in the 60s this week, I'll be 70 F by next Monday. Jag is a little cooler. My area it's 10-11 inches in a normal year so irrigation is vital. It's actually a bit late for starting tomatoes here. One reason to start tomatoes ASAP is so you can plant them deep and get a bigger root system quickly. First fruiting is temperatures and pollination. Sustaining a heavily loaded plant in 100-113F involves adequate moisture and a good root system. So for us in 9B using transplants makes a lot of sense. We all have to adapt what we see on KZbin gardening channels to our own conditions. I was thrilled when I recently found this channel. His advice is excellent and for me is spot on. Even varieties, I was nodding in agreement on the tomatoes and eggplant. Try the YT search box to find channels in your zone and you can get more targeted suggestions . The combination of quality like Jag has here and info geared for your zone will be great. Happy gardening. 👩‍🌾

I am in zone 9B too (SFBA) and last year I started in February and it was a little to early but we had really cold spring. I hope we wont get so cold spring this year. But I already started tomatoes but these are cold weather determinate tomatoes (Siletz).

Last year, I started in May, it was first time growing tomatoes last year, but this year with your videos and motivation, I started seeds for many veggies including tomatoes and peppers in 2nd week of January. All including pepper spouted and growing okay so far under grow lights. I am having more seeds which I will start in March indoors and then final round directly outside in April end. Please keep us informed of care of seedlings to keep them going well. Thanks

They need about 70F to start growing, so inside if the temp outside is cold, if you have a window, place the tray next to the window, otherwise use grow lights.
