Hi Siloe! I love your videos! By any chance can you make a video showing how to do those movable cages, and cold frame? Also, could you possible start including the time you do the planting? I understand you do them with in a time span, but would like to know your times of doing things! Thank you, so much for your educational videos!

I must say, I've been growing rapini for about a decade. And having an Italian background, I must say, you do an excellent job and recognizing the stages of growth! Also, You are the first person I have ever seen turn broccoli rabe into a dip! It looks mighty delicious. Keep up the good work, and all the best, bud!

Thanks so much for this very informative video! Broccoli rabe is a staple in our home. We are of Sicilian decent and just sauté it in olive oil and garlic, occasionally throwing some cannelloni beans in :) What planting zone are you in? Do you thin your broccoli rabe?

I notice you made no mention of thinning, which sounds good to me. Honestly when I thinned the carrots......I replanted some of them since I can't stand the waste. It's unfortunate KZbin won't let me post a picture of the awesome carrot success from using the cornstarch goo you demonstrated. They are delicious!

You could cover your frames with a temporary poly when it rains to keep your plants from drowning and from getting mildew until harvest time.

How do you make those frames? I think you called them cold frames?? What number plastic are you using? It seems to me that that's a better idea than the greenhouses where we trying to work with in small spaces. I would love to know what you used for the plastic part

Question, mine is growing quite big leaves but no flowers, florets etc? What could I be doing wrong. I do like the leaves so I remove some and saute with garlic, red pepper flakes.
@cherylnorise4204 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I know you said you like it. But is the bitter so bitter that you have to acquire a taste for it as an adult. I planted the traditional broccoli this year. I took up a lot of space not much yield. What about making wraps and or burritos. Well thank you for the added knowledge you give us weekly. Also because of you I bought and use mortar and pestle. Have an awesome week
@livamour3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you had it since you posted this. It is bitter but not so much that it’s difficult to eat. I do notice that cooking with fats tends to make bitter veg more palatable. So butter, oil or with a meat product on the side may help.

I think my raab/rapini is bolting here in Houston in early Feb. :( Can I still use it? How do I prevent the rest from bolting so quickly?
@suburbanhomestead3 жыл бұрын
Broccoli needs lots of sun and high nitrogen fertilizer and cooler temperatures. It is a bit more tricky to get right than other garden plants. That’s why I’m more of a kale person. It is low maintenance and high yield.

Question on growing broccoli rabe...my plants are tall, spindly & have small clusters of yellow flowers...after the tiny clusters open. How do I get them trimmed down to grow better and more healthy looking clusters? They are about 4 weeks old at this time and are almost 2 feet tall...searched online for DAYS and can't find any answers to this... Not sure what to do with them at this point...let them keep getting taller or trim? Leaves are still very small...
@suburbanhomestead4 жыл бұрын
If they started flowering they are too old. If you are in the northern hemisphere, it may be too late to grow them at this point. When day length passes more then 12-24 hours they go to seed. If at that point they are still young and thin, they become spindly and don’t produce much. You either have to start them much earlier protected under glass or maybe plant in end of July for a fall crop. Give them a very sunny spot with lots of fertilizer. Brócoli in general is more complicated to grow than kale and collards. I prefer to grow collards and kale because they yield heavily and easily in a small area
