I ordered some Plumeria seed a little while ago and they finally arrived. These seeds are of Plumeria rubra, so they should all have some red or pink in them :) they seem to be super EASY to grow. I'll have another update soon!
Here is the link to the Ebay seller i purchased my seeds from stores.ebay.ca/thaiperfectgems

Originally from Hawaii, I've done about everything there is to do with plumerias, or Mele in hawaiian. Regarding seedlings, the color of the mother tree only occasionally reproduces the same on the babies. You not only can get a different color, but often different shaped petals, and leaves, and also the aroma may be different from mom. Be prepared for a wait of 3-4 years before they bloom to see the results, or colors. I have gotten mine in Florida to produce blooms in as little as 2 years though. Don't ask me why. i don't use any special chemicals or fertilizer, unless the soil is very poor. Regular soil and some kitchen cuttings, or compost is it. One trick i have learned, by accident, is if you leave the seedling in a medium size pot and let it grow there for 4 or 5 years, it becomes root bound, and you will get a tall tree where it doesn't start branching or blooming till the tree is maybe 5 or 6 feet tall. I have 2 driveways and lined both driveways with plumeria trees in the ground, The taller ones are toward the street, so that when I drive out, my view is not obstructed of oncoming traffic, and they can also see me, because the branches are higher. I also pick the ones with 4 to 6 branches at the top as it is more symmetrical and produces more blooms. An unusual thing is they 99.9% of the time will not "force branch", in other words, no branches will just pop out or grow along the trunk. Only at the tips of the branches is there growth. However I have had a few to force branch, but always on seedlings, never from a cutting that I rooted. Where I live it gets down into the low 40's at nite in winter, and only once, in 2009, did i get any freeze on the tips. I waited a few days and cut them back just below the black, If after a day or 2, more black appeared, I just trimmed more just below the black. The good part is more than one branch comes back at the cut spot making it bushier. Also I have one tree that sits near a light post in the yard. The front near the light never loses the leaves in winter, but the back of the tree toward house loses all leaves. Sorry for this loooong comment.

Thank you so much for all of your knowledge :) you are so lucky to be able to have these planted outside full time. I'll never be able to have a big bushy plant as it needs to be able to fit through a doorway...lol

i am another one of your inspired followers, thanks for the information that you sent to me, i ordered 110 seeds from the same place where you bought yours, also thanks for all the info you have in your vids. As far as the weather, we are still hitting the high 90's here in southern california so hopefully it is not too late to start the seeds...thanks again...

i haven't tried to do seed,except for that money plant i told you i found in downtown Seattle a couple weeks ago. I have been eyeing Moon Flowers at the grocery store, I have grown them before from seed, but they need lots of sun, we are gonna be entering our rainy season soon, so i will just have to start them next spring just to be safe.

Can a 20cm new plant be placed outside in direct sunlight with temperatures around 20 - 24 degrees centigrade. Or should it placed in filtered light. Thanks for the great tips.

Your videos are VERY helpful! I have 3 plumeria trees that are in the ground and over 10' tall. Love them. This is my first attempt to plant seeds - from my very own trees! My question is how much do you water seedlings? Mine are in a tray like yours but outdoors as it is still in the high 90s here in southern California. How do I know when they need water? Thank you!

Hey Bill - So... I'm normally a cacti/succulent person (they and I get along well), but I decided to try some plumeria after seeing your video. I planted them a few days ago in "normal" soil (2/3 my cactus mix 1/3 compost). I pasteurized the mix in the microwave first, but the larger tray has grown mold on anyway :( Is that the end of them? Can I apply captan to them? Will that hurt them? Should I uncover them and see what happens?
@NGNG3
@NGNG3 11 жыл бұрын
YES, you will need a MUCH larger house to accommodate these seedlings alone... Haa..haaa... ! I can't wait to see your video on winterizing those four/five seedlings in the gardenbed! : ) I have seeds that are about three (plus) years old and they are still viable! Some are now germinating in a separate cup (sown last week). So, if you keep the seeds covered and in a cool environment, they can still retain life. And, this is interesting, because I've heard otherwise. ; )

They occasionally produce cigar looking seed pods, usually a double pod. They are not pollinated by butterflies or bees, but by the sphinx moth, at nite. At first they are green but after a few months turn brown. LEAVE them on the tree till fully dried, but sometimes if you forget they will open and the seed will blow away. When they appear brown and start feeling dry, put a paper bag over the pod with a twistie or rubber band so if they open before you check it, the seeds will be in the bag.
