Learn how to grow our new favorite Green, which is Japanese spinach from seed to harvest in containers. We actually like it better than regular spinach. It's delicious in stir fries and soups as it is in salads, smoothie, lasagna or at top pizzas. Let us know in comments, if you too like it better than regular spinach?
It’s an incredible nutritious green, chock-full of vitamin K, and C, plus about 4x as much vitamin A as carrots. If you’re familiar with Tatsoi (spinach adjacent) or Komatsuna (japanese mustard spinach), Chijimisai is actually a cross of the two! The the lightly savoyed leaves have a velvety texture and lightly umami flavor.
Let us know in comments if you too like it better than regular spinach?

I watched this last night on instagram, but wanted to come back and say, This was the first time for me growing chijimisai also this year and I fell in love with it. Japanese spinach. Sweeter and milder. Love it in soups and stews and stir fries and in salad. And Baker Creek does have many interesting things to try, but chijimisai will be a regular for me going forth.

I grew some Japanese mustard/spinach greens this year and it was amazing! It stood up better than spinach in dishes but wasn't bitter like mustard greens. Definitely on my must grow list from now on. They also held better in the heat.

It is so fun to watch seedlings actually grow up! I fail so badly trying to start seeds...Badly! I swamp them, fry them, and bake them completely away...I will try again in the spring I have no place to put my seed start trays...to tell you how hot it gets...after I tossed my seedling start soil into the container garden I had them sitting on top of a aluminum trough (it is upside don) and the trays melted!! UG!
@HollisNancysHomestead
@HollisNancysHomestead Жыл бұрын
Wow, that is definitely hot. Sounds like you need to adjust your planting schedule. Start your spring seeds 6-8 weeks prior to your last predicted frost and your fall garden seeds 6-8 weeks prior to your first predicted frost.

Yes ma’am. Bing Bing finally pulled through thanks to answered prayers and great doctors. He stays close to us now. We no longer allow him to run free due to the many dangers in the surrounding woods on our homestead. He is on a leash when he is outside. When we go into the garden complex he is allowed free run because it is totally fenced in. He doesn’t really seem to want to run in the woods anyway. I think he was traumatized by the snake bite and seems to be scared to go in the woods now. We are okay with that. We feel better if he just don’t go out there anymore unless we are with him. He goes everywhere we go on the property and seems to be happy with that. He regained the weight he lost while in ICU and all his fur is almost grown back where they shaved his belly and neck. He is back up and running❤️🐶❤️

@@HollisNancysHomestead I had this planted in a bed which was in the full sun. I had one sun filter fabric and didnt have money for another so the sun was my enemy this year. And it did actually feel radioactive...lol I barely kept what was under the trees alive and do plant allot in containers because of the sun being strong. I need to invest in more shade cloths this spring. Learning so about and we actually do have a winter here so I experiment with winter sowing. Had a huge amount of seedlings though with nowhere to plant them....just growing and learning.
