Old habits die hard. When you are in a cultic system for under 10 years, there are things you have difficulty letting go of. Things that the parents had difficulty letting go of are discussed here.

My friend from high school grew up in a very strict WWCofG family. Even though my family wasn't members we were invited to attend because my parents knew Gaener Ted. She wasnt allowed to have friends outsude the WWCofG but i was ok. Then her house completely burned down from a tragedy. She was so surprised that all those worldly peoole from their community offered help, even a house to rent, furniture, kitchen supplies, etc. She had been believing those worldly people were to be avoided. Then several people in the community invited her family to attend church ( on Sunday, agast! ) but the people had been so nice that they felt obligated. Long story short, they left the WWCofG and said it waz because of the kindness in the Christisns in their community.

I did not have that experience. It actually was a wonderful church to grow up in. You speak about catholic teaching. It was not a church that came from catholicism. It was and those that are still out here kept the 4th commandment as other sabbath keeping churches do. Being around commandment keeping people is a protective filled environment.

Both my wife and I (we met in Orr at SEP) were raised in WWCG our entire lives (1970’s, 80’s, 90’s) We were from completely opposite sides of the country. We appreciate the fact that we had the same upbringing even though we came from totally opposite sides of the country and different types of families/family life. We both had great childhoods and experience in WWCG. All Of my siblings were also raised in WWCG and had great experiences. Our parents agreed with the changes also and made the change at the time. When the changes came my wife (girlfriend at the time) and I also agreed with them. We then ended up at an Evangelical church within 10 years, once our kids reached elementary school age. They had a great youth program for our kids to take part in and grown up with similar youth group experiences as we had but from an evangelical perspective.

My parents joined the WWC in 1986 when I was 7. I totally know what you mean about remembering how life was before. It was a blessing and a curse. My parents left the church in the 90's but joined offshoots. I didn't but it still took me a long time to get back to 'normal'. I remember the elitist mentality they had. They (church members) were better than the rest of society because they were the 'chosen ones'. Just as a small example, I still have guilt if I work on the 'Sabbath' and when I eat pork. It never really leaves. I'm in my 40's now. I am not affiliated with any church because the whole experience gave me a bad taste in regards to religion.

I had similar experiences. My Dad was into it and my Mom just went along. She was always a main stream Christian. We started off in WCG in 1983 then quickly went to CGI about a year later and didn’t leave until around 1992 when a bunch of WCG converts took over their group. 😂 Read the Bible on your own. Don’t depend on someone to explain it to you while you don’t read it for yourself. I finally started in the last few years just doing the Daily Audio Bible podcast with Brian Hardin.

@@silver-en7kl Umm that’s our line. You’re the one judging. The scripture is right in your face yet you refuse to see. There are over 600 Old Testament laws along with sabbath keeping and not eating pork. Staying in the Old Testament and picking and choosing which laws to follow is what WCG and CGI used to do and is incorrect.

Twenty years of GTA, HWA, JT, and JTjr then Pentecostals (AG), was a learning experience. We need to grow in learning right from wrong. JESUS IS RIGHT, cult leaders often are wrong. What was wrong with WCG? False prophecy, and false doctrine like them being the only true church, about the lake of fire, and that pope Herb was an apostle.

Thank you for sharing your story. I relate to many of the things that you described. I was raised in the cesspool of the WWCG in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Long story short, I am 52 and currently am in therapy because I need to let go of the anger and bitterness that I carry around over having been brought up in that wicked cult. Like you, I too have come to faith in the genuine Biblical Christian faith and follow the real Jesus. That is a miracle in and of itself because it would have been very easy for me to become an atheist. Anyway, I appreciate what you said and I wish you all of the best.

I was born into & raised in the WWCG. I remember adults questioning my beliefs as a child, like why I couldn't eat pepperoni pizza or accept a Xmas gift and always being ask "What ARE you?" because it was so similar to the Jewish faith or Jahova's Witnesses but not either category. One bday party I attended was during The Days of Unleavened Bread, we were playing games, having fun, then it was time for the CAKE! I remember, at age 8, feeling this huge feeling of almost danger just being around leavening! I told the Mom how I couldn't eat the cake, she asked why, and in my best child minded way, had to explain to her & all the other kids why I wasn't allowed to eat a piece of birthday cake. I didn't feel convicted, I felt embarrassed & humiliated and like I was gonna be in BIG TROUBLE if I didn't do everything right... The takeaway I have from this "church" was always being told what you can't do, better not do or else. I looked up an old sermon, Mr. Armstrong was giving & couldn't believe how nasty he sounded. He was scolding us, talking down to us, controlling us. I don't know what make my parents join, but it has affected myself & all 5 of my brothers in very different ways.

He is so on fire for the lord but he always has this undertone that nobody is doing it “good enough” and he finds an angle in every issue that we can do better. Like when I told him I used coupons he said “as long as i tithed on them!!! 😮😮😮. Or if we did not go to Sunday night church we are worshiping other idols! Just crazy rules. Anyway… you have helped. I am so glad your faith is in the Lord today! And your parents too. Jesus is a good good father. Thanks again.

God has certainly had his hand on you, Ray! As you were talking about how your dad was smug and felt he had the truth and other Christians didn't it reminded me of my mom who was, from the time she accepted Christ as her savior, in a rigid Bible believing church and felt they were superior to other churches. I think that attitude stems from a brokenness that makes people very insecure. They build a protective shell of self righteousness around themselves and feel affirmed that they're right when they criticize others.

The Worldwide Church of Fraud almost destroyed my life. I got sucked in as a naive, "good boy" teen and gave my blind loyalty to GTA then HWA. They kept us busy and used carrot and stick manipulation to make us conform with a smile.. Even the kind ministers had been suckered into the false narrative. The members were very nice but incapable of critical thinking. Questions were not welcomed or dismissed with a pat reply. This all made me judgemental, self loathing, confused and needy. I left a number of times.Everything fell apart for me in '83. I left cold turkey to save my sanity and have a real life before I burned in hell. Life just got better and better. After Christ healed me instantly of a debilitating fever years later, I refused to go to any church. A few visits to WWCG congregations convinced me to stay away. Now I am happy in Christ. I study the bible and pray daily. ' Attend and serve at a protestant church. I'm free of shame, fear and self loathing.

Excellent point about not taking spiritual advice from known heretics. I have SDA friends who reject the investigative judgement and Ellen White, but still think the SDA Church got it right on issues like the Sabbath and the state of the dead. And the issue I see with that is just what you mentioned. For the most part those views have only been held by heretics, and have always been rejected by historic Christianity. While this isn't the final test of weather they are true or false, it certainly makes those views highly suspect, and the rational response would be to subject those views to intense biblical scrutiny before just continuing on with them.

I know that there were beliefs that were re-discovered that had been lost in church history, like salvation by grace through faith and the Protestant reformation was ignited. But they were rediscovering the scriptures that had been overlooked for so long. When they come up with beliefs that have almost no scriptural support, that is where I use the term "red flag".

MY later regret for Mr Armstrong decades after i left was that he "refused" to use the YHVH hebrew personal name that the 12 Apostles used even though he for sure knew it. He knew the name we ALL must be saved by but did not allow usage. Also he told of a time he visited the Vatican library to verify something ! The Catholic Dictionary explains TITHING was RESTARTED by a council of Catholic elders in year 585 , over 500 years of Christians were not tithing because no Temple nor active Priests in Jerusalem and Mr Armstrong chose to hide that from the entire church..... At crucifiction the curtain was torn from top to bottom symbolizing WE pray without" need" of Priests and sacrifices ( no tithing money coming into WCG ) ! H.W.A. probably had good intentions !

I know it's difficult to express all the myriad of feelings you went through in departing WCG: (firstly, I struggle to hear your video because the sound is too low; I must strain to hear what you say), but I was baptized by a WCG minister in 1969, and stayed until it fell part in the mid 1990s under Tkach. In confusion I stayed away from church altogether for seven years, sorting things out. But my question was, "Why would God do away with the Sabbath and Holydays?" I went again through ALL the doctrines we were taught, including the 3days and 3 nights issue. But as the daughter of a US Navy Chief, as a 7-9 year old Dad was stationed in Izmir, Turkey (the old Smyrna of the Bible) and as a family we lived there for TWO YEARS. I learned about Polycarp and Polycrates from having lived in Izmir, and we visited Ephesus whilst there, too. I know God wanted me to experience that part of the world, so that when I did read my Bible as an adult I could more easily sort out doctrines. My mother died when I was 3 and Dad and my Stepmother did not attend churches, but they sent my sister and me to the Baptist Church because our Mother was Catholic. However, at age 3 when Mother died she had taken me to the Catholic Church around the corner while Dad was overseas fighting in Korea from an aircraft carrier. At that young age I asked myself silently, "Is THIS God?" I couldn't swallow it, all the robes, candles, pompery, etc. Neither could I swallow the "once saved always saved" belief of the Baptists. So at age 17 a "small voice in my head" asked me as I stood singing the last hymn of the Baptist Sunday Service, "What are you doing here?" The thought was not my own thought. I asked myself if the voice were the devil or God, but I answered it by thinking, "Well, I'm here because my parents SENT me here, but WHY AM I HERE?" It was Spring of my senior year, so the summer before College I spent trying to answer the question. By college I had proved to myself the existence of God, so in college I took a LOGIC class, WORLD RELIGIONS, Psychology, but it was church HISTORY I didn't know. But 5 years later, having married a man that introduced me to the Plain Truth Magazine, we were both baptized by WCG, into the Body of Christ. They put our names on the roll. I had difficulty with some few teachings, but the arrogance of the ministry was the most difficult to fathom for me. I quit attending and my personal life and family life fell apart. However, eventually I sorted out the Bible Doctrines, attempting to "prove all things". Associating with several COGs, I always asked questions they couldn't answer, but I knew that the Sabbath and Holydays were God's appointed times, not SUN-day. I knew that both Polycarp and Polycrates had visited the Roman Bishops to try and emphasizn to them the keeping of Passover not "Easter", and to me THAT was ironclad. They were BOTH students of John The Apostle, who could not be wrong on those points, knowing that Christ died to pay the penalty for our breaking the Eternal Law of God, that is Just, Holy and GOOD. On my own I questioned the 3 days and 3 nights issue by discovering that had Christ been crucified on any other day but FRIDAY, He would not be our Savior because He would have broken the Law of The Peace Offering. His sacrifice WAS a Peace Offering, undoubtedly: Col.1:20, also See Lev. 7:11-21 and Lev.19:5-8, Then online I found the 12 verses that prove the meaning of Matt.12:40, that led me to discern that Christ was 3 days and 3 nights PAYING FOR OUR SINS. I will post those 12 verses below. The WCG and offshoots turns that around to Christ being in the grave 3 NIGHTS and 3 days, backwards to Matt.12:40. I knew Isaiah 53 shows the sequence also, the sequence that took 3 days and 3 nights, beginning with the BETRAYAL by Iscariot. And also that Christ spent the last NIGHT of that sequence in the GRAVE, not being resurrected after the 3rd day, a Sabbath DAY. He was resurrected after the THIRD NIGHT. So I knew something was very wrong in the teaching. I had heard enough Protestant and Catholic Doctrines to know they were both in error, and history shows how those both defy the SABBATH-Keeping Brethren throughout the two millennia since Christ paid for our sins. I knew few were firstfruits now, and the main harvest period was pictured by Tabernacles, but that the Church NEVER read the LAW AT Tabernacles as commanded in Deut.31:9-13. If the Church had there would have been too many questions they couldn't answer. Divorce and remarriage was also a huge issue in the Church as was the count to Pentecost, that HWA changed in 1974. Pentecost is a full COUNT of 50 days, a "cardinal" count, not an "ordinal" count, so that the COGs have that wrong. Then I discovered the gross error of 1844 and the establishment of the international date line, that caused a Tuesday to be DOPPED from history for 1/3 of the world, so that HWA wrote that "china holy time was ahead of Jerusalem", which is a lie he should have know better than to teach! HWA changed the divorce and remarriage Doctrine in 1974 to fit his relationship with Ramona Martin, which marriage ended in divorce itself. Honestly, HWA was more like the "man of God" in I Kings 13 that went eating and drinking when he was instructed not to do so. A lion killed that "man of God"! But the Hillel II calendar of the Jews making is wrong, and God did set the heavenly ordinances in Genesis 1:14-19 and they have NOT CHANGED SINCE, as confirmed by Jeremiah in his chapters 31 and 33. The 3 days and 3 nights words "belly", "earth", and "heart" mean that Christ was emeshed or BURIED in SIN, becoming SIN for us over a 3 day and 3 night period, the belly being the seat of emotions of man, who is EARTHY, CARNAL, and whose HEART is desperately wicked. Christ did not have to PROVE He was the Savior at all: He just had to BE the Savior by pouring out His Blood and being nearly beaten to death for our SINS, our healing, then resting in the grave for the last 3rd NIGHT of the ordeal, He rose as the Firstfruit of God's Creation by Wave Sheaf morning and was accepted, asking Mary not to touch Him, which is part of the Peace Offering Law. Read it in Leviticus. The Moon conjunction that divides LIGHT from DARKNESS determines when God's Holy Time is, and no man can change those heavenly ordinances ever since Day 4 of Creation Week. But, ALL the COGs are in deep trouble with God because they are ALL taught falsehoods by the Ministry. The Two Witnesses will confirm the Truth of God soon - just look at the world today; TIME is just about UP! The Truth is only REVEALED by God, not a Church. Our Family struggles but so have all true Christians over the last two millennia, for keeping God's Commandments, Statutes, and Judgments which are FOREVER: Ps.119:160. God has NO commandments, statutes or judgments that are BAD, or WRONG, or temporary. He is not a derelict to have left out ANYTHING in His Law. It is man that has to decide to follow God not man, and to ask God for understanding, STUDY to be approved, rightly dividing the Word of God, and not bowing down to falsehoods. You can do that, too, my Friend. I am 77 and did that with God's help and no help at all from either of my parents or my sibling. Ask God to give you understanding. The Trinity is easily proven wrong: first of all is that Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, but the Father is His FATHER, not the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God's Power and He IS HOLY. So therefore God has a HOLY Spirit, and He IS a Spirit. And we must worship Him in the Spirit and in the Truthy. So asked Him for The TRUTH, then obey it. Re the international date line, in 1844 25 nations of the world agreed to go from Dec.30th, a MONDAY, at midnight to Jan.1st 1845 a WEDNESDAY, dropping a Tuesday from that part of the world, and projecting the REAL Sabbath in to SUN-day for those nations East of Jerusalem to the date Line in the Pacific Ocean, and nowhere did God say He agreed with that. The nations just changed TIMES and LAWS as they felt like it for reasons of SHIPPING! Read about that; it's all in historical records online. Our Family keeps God's times Holy, by the heavenly ordinances of Day 4 of Creation Week. It's all in the Book. :) Lastly, our Family gets kicked out of COGs, but we strive to keep God's Ordnances as a Family anyway.

The 12 Verses: 12 Verses 1. "From that time forth began Jesus to show unto His disciples, how that He must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day." (Matthew 16:21) 2. "Jesus said unto them, the Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of man; and they shall kill Him, and the third day He shall be raised again."(Matthew 17:22) 3. "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn Him to death, and shall deliver Him to the Gentiles, to mock and to scourge, and to crucify Him, and the third day He shall rise again." (Matthew 20:18) 4. "Son of man must suffer many things and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again." (Mark 8:31) 5. "For He taught His disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill Him, and after that He is killed, He shall rise the third day." (Mark 9:31) (note: the repetition emphasizes Jesus was definitely dead, in other words, "make no mistake He IS KILLED" and not isolating the sequence.) 6. "and they shall mock Him, and shall scourge Him, and shall spit upon Him, and shall kill Him, and the third day He shall rise again." (Mark 10:34) 7. "Saying, the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day." (Luke 9:22) 8. "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished, for He shall be delivered unto the Gentiles and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on, and they shall scourge Him, and put Him to death, and the third day He shall rise again." (Luke 18:31) 9. "The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of men, crucified, and the third day rise again." (Luke 24:7) 10. (The disciples were explaining unknowingly to the risen Jesus ) "And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and have crucified Him. But we trusted that it had to be He which should have redeemed Israel, and besides all this, today is the third day since these things (plural) were done." (Luke 24:20) (This verse is unique in that Jesus then replied, "O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory?' " (Luke 24:25) 11. "And said unto them, thus it is written and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day." (Luke 24:46) 12. "And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day." (note: Look up the original Greek word for "slew" used in the New Testament. It means "Alas! woe" which are clearly suffering and included in the sequence. By our definition, "slew" means: "To kill by violent means." ~American Heritage ) (Acts 10:39) Notice how each one gives the necessary sequence. ALL verses follow the pattern and include the "deliverance," "betrayal," or "suffering" of Jesus within the sentence describing the three-day timeframe. The only verse that comes close to omitting a mention of Christ's suffering as part of the time frame is when Paul later wrote to the Corinthians and relied heavily on what was previously written: "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures" According to the Scriptures, in the Law of Peace Offerings (Lev.7), a voluntary offering MUST BE Waved before the LORD to be accepted before the THIRD DAY after it is offered or it will NOT be accepted and is an ABOMINATION. Crucified on the 6th day of the week, He was resurrected and offered by the FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK, the THIRD DAY.

Remember all the things Christ said about being persecuted for righteousness' sake, and that Rev.15 shows the biggest SIGN in the Bible, a "sign GREAT and MARVELOUS", those beheaded for the witness of Jesus Christ, getting the VICTORY over the beast, his image, his mark, his name, standing before God's Throne to be waved to be ACCEPTED, by Christ the High Priest, as per Pentecost as described in Lev.23. They will be kings and priests of God forever. They are the Firstfruits. Nothing wrong with obeying God and suffering for it; look how He suffered FOR US. I've lost jobs, family, friends, money, fame, and riches to obey God, too. God's Law is WONDERFUL, but is hated by the world. The TRUE Gospel is a huge calling, not meant for the faint of heart, or the half-hearted. Truth is worth dying for, though not necessarily FUN.

New Covenant Whole Gospel: Who is now the King of Israel in John 1:49? Is the King of Israel now the Head of the Church, and are we His Body? Why did God allow the Romans to destroy the Old Covenant temple and the Old Covenant city, about 40 years after His Son fulfilled the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 in blood at Calvary? What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below. Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8, 3:16? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36) We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24. 1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. The gospel is as follows “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you-unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,”. 1 corinthians 15. And you’re welcome.

@jakedubin8219 in my humble opinion, yes. It was created by HWA/Loma D. from various religions, Seventh Day Adventist and Quakers, to name two. It was a money-making machine in which the leadership and the members weren't held to the same standards. Many of the members were sincere in their beliefs, unfortunately just misled. In it's heyday WWCG believed they were the one true church, and HWA was God's apostle, that's in today's terms, a cult. I attended from 1972 to 1996.
