Now you need to go full circle and harvest some salmon, some crab, some rockfish and sea cucumber, set it up raw and season it with some wasabi. I don't know if you can make homemade soya sauce, but if you can and you get all this together, please invite me over for dinner. I'm not far away. Sidebar: If you're wearing 5.1 surround sound headphones when you watch this, when those turkeys gobble, you would swear they've just sneaked up behind you.

If you grow them in deeper pots, like a whiskey barrel, the roots will grow longer. That’s what the lady who grows commercial wasabi in Oregon does at her home. At their wasabi farm, they grow in the ground, under canopy for shade. I buy my wasabi plants from their farm.

@suziet6176 I'd be interested in knowing who you bought from and does she ship? Thanks!

Super inspirational! I've got a wet soil corner in the garden that's shaded and only ferns grow there. This is maybe the right plant! Cool! Thanks for sharing your experience!

I’ve been wondering if wasabi could be grown in the Salish Sea ! Thanks so much for making this video. Where did you get your starter plants ? There is nothing comparable to fresh wasabi from the root. I’ve always wanted to grow it but have heard that it requires a very particular environment. In Japan they often grow next to a small creek in cooler mountain areas. I’m excited to see your success and will look forward to see how your rhizomes progress. I’m down in the San Juan’s so this is of particular interest ! Thanks again.

Cool! I've wondered about growing wasabi! Sadly what we have in NA is mostly horseradish with little actual wasabi. Horseradish I do grow. This fall will give that a try...or maybe summer. Maybe sooner!

Wasabi plant is a beautiful plant! I got free seeds so I’m gonna try to grow it. Have to cold stratify the seeds first though. Thanks for this video.

Please let us know how it goes. We have never tried growing from seed

Is it possible to buy seeds? I'd like to try growing it but it seems like all the seeds offered in Amazon and ebay are fake. I know that is hard to germinate but I would not be able to legally import plants into my country

I bought a wasabi plant last year. It was thriving until 3 days ago when the temperature suddenly hit 27C, yesterday it was 32C, and the leaves have drooped. Today it's cooler, and raining. I might move my wasabi to the shaded side of my house.

Very cool. Didn't know that would grow here

That's awesome. I definitely couldn't get that to grow in my climate, so I'm jealous.

It's definitely a finicky one. Needs warm weather but lots of shade. 😎

If you swirl the root ball in a bucket of water it will make the roots come apart more easily.

Running swamp/riverside I think, not true swamp. Of interest, are you capable of supplying? I want to see how far I get with field culture (literally just putting it in the ground, after gravel application; I would put this setup between an alameda of whatever trees I can take cuttings from, to provide shade) in Prince George, which is known to get hard freezes and famously spicy summers (I think we got up to 40°C once).

It can take years to see a six inch rhysome for wasabi, it also works best at or near a water source.

In another video the people growing Wasabi saif, they rhizome grows above the ground. They felt for it, to judge it's size, before harvesting. 🤔

There’s a reason real wasabi costs a ton of money. It doesn’t grow big in just a year. Kudos for keeping it alive that long though.

The “wasabi” in restaurants is really horseradish.
@jjanel1984 Жыл бұрын
@@Mike-ki7ztdepends on where you live. Just brought a bunch home from Japan. And grated it with a traditional shark skin paddle. The texture and flavor compared to the fake wasabi/ horseradish is mind blowing 🤯

I'd love to see if you are into trading for a root .
