🤙Shaka 🤙 Braddah! Thanks for the Katuk cuttings and now I want a Yacon too! They have one here locally though, I just didn't know what it was. Sounds yummy and looks nice to boot. Can grow this one in the front yard even!

Katuk is on it's way but I cannot send yacon since it is a root, but hope you like the katuk and it flowers for you

Mahalo Christa! I just started doing this just before Covid. We miss the halau, but Tulsi got to take a class with Makalei's mom the other day. It made her really miss hula.

I tried Yacon a few years in my cooler climate but the tubers came out more watery than sweet. If I remember right it grew similar to ornamental dahlias, just with huge tubers. I'm glad yours came out so sweet!

I think all they really like is just a blush of cold. My wife just made a garpefruit yacon avocado salad and it was delish!

dude you are the shiz! your videos are the best! I'm thinking of moving to HOVE (because it's so cheap) and starting a food forest like yours. do you think this is an impossible goal with all the lava rock over there?
@HomesteadinHawaii3 жыл бұрын
Aloha. Mahalo for watching.my videos. Ocean view is pretty rocky but I hear some great things coming from there about the success people are having with growing in the lava rock. It will take time and money though. Organic matter is the name of the game so unless you're chopping and hauling grass and tree clippings back to your site to compost, you're going to have to purchase soil and focus on hardy locally adapted trees

Love your videos. If I harvest my yacon now in November, do I store the planting material until Spring or do I plant it now? I’m in frost-free Puna.
@HomesteadinHawaii3 жыл бұрын
You can store in a cool dark place or plant now under heavy mulch to slow its growth till january or do nothing and plant right away. Either way, it's pretty easy to grow

I had the same question. Glad I checked to see if someone else already asked it. Awesome video man

Hi I live in puna too. I have been watching your channel. It has been very helpful. We really appreciate your videos. It is the first time for me to get to know yacon and I am interested. How can I get some yacon? May I buy some roots from you to grow? Thx
@HomesteadinHawaii3 жыл бұрын
Are you on FB? There is a facebook group called Homesteadin' Hawai'i where you could ask others for plant starts. I just planted out all of my roots in the garden. I'm really trying to fill in my understory. Mahalo for watching!!

I grow these in a zone 6 A. New york ..Maybe it's the Shorter season but I get no flowers and they're not sweet when they come out of the ground When they die from the frost They are dug up... If you let him sit for a while they get a little bit sweet Any recommendations it seems when you all pick them they're sweet from the ground?
