I’ve taken many elm cuttings but never thought of taking one this big, thanks for sharing

Now.. go out and do it yourself. (Or actually, do this in spring!) :)

quite interesting to say the least I never would’ve thought of an elm tree cut that thick and that easily propagated in a bag like that I mean it’s not like a ficus or anything like that it’s pretty much a hardwood cutting? Did you use any rooting hormone? Of any sore May I ask?

this was just an overnight water soak. Check my recent elm cuttings video. I have done much bigger elm cuttings this way with success.

Great short video!! Very calming…… How thick of a cutting is it possible to get from a Chinese elm (cork bark)?
@GrowingBonsai2 ай бұрын
No idea. Thickest I have rooted was about 5cm, 2 inch. I think I would also not try a lot thicker if I really wanted that to live, and I would airlayer it, as that is much more certain to work.

I've had the _hardest. time._ with rooting cuttings and germinating seeds in plastic bags; they've always molded within a couple days, and I've never understood why. Turns out the type of bag matters a lot: some are thin enough, or made of the right material, to allow oxygen to diffuse through the sealed bag while keeping water in, and I don't think either category includes my bags.

Hm.. I am not sure about this. I have been using all sorts of bags.. :|

Why is such a small tree already in a bonsai pot? Wouldn’t you want to put it in a growing container first so it thickens up?
@GrowingBonsai2 ай бұрын
not for a mame. In fact, this pot is oversized for mame and big enough to further develop it
