You seem like such a delight. Thank you! The features I'm excited about, compared to earlier models and competitors: -Pressure switch that engages when it's locked (yay!) -Steam diffuser (great idea! I don't like how the steam messed with my cabinet paintwork) -Better button interface than the first models (I haaated the buttons!) -Unattached lid (lets it fit in smaller spaces, unlike Ninja Foodi) -Stainless steel pot for chemical safety (I scratched up my Ninja Foodi, and they don't have a stainless pot) I use the bake/roast feature of my multicooker every day - it is much more efficient to heat up that small space compared to my oven, and it automatically turns off.
@CookingandCalm3 ай бұрын
Ah thank you for leaving such a positive comment. Yes, I agree with all of those. I've been testing the Ninja Foodi recently and scratched the non-stick on first use then couldn't get a replacement as out of stock. My fault but on this basis alone, it's not for me . I love the stainless steel, especially on this new version.

I have this model. I’m new to instant pot but have used stovetop pressure cookers. I agree about the absence of zero minutes as there’s a great deal of recipes that use zero min, seems silly to remove it. My main gripe soo far is with the dry bake function. It took me 2.5 hrs to cook a banana cake in a six” round cake pan. It would have been done in an HR in the oven. I’m going to try another with a little Bundt tin I have and see how that goes, not holding my breath tho. There’s also an absence any recipes or guidance from the manufacturer on what to expect with that fry bake function. Apart from that I’m enjoying using it and have made some yummy meals.

Thank you for sharing. Yes, I wish they'd stop making so many models and focus on what matters in getting the core models right. I also wish I could help you on that baking thing but I've no faith in that function and spent a lot of time searching out support docs but couldn't find anything useful. I'd be interested to hear how you get on so do tell me if you've time. Lots of us here and sharing tips is so helpful. Have a lovely weekend

Thank you for the video. I was looking at a slow cooker and thought that I could get the best of both worlds with this. Also as a Soldier for all of my adult life working with foreign militaries, I have learned many slang words. You have added a new one to my vocabulary, Hob. There are not many stove tops in Iraq or Afghanistan. Great video.
@CookingandCalmКүн бұрын
Hi there, well it's always good to learn a new word 🤣 .Yes, it's not a great slow cooker to be honest. Some of the models are better than others but I try to encourage everyone to convert the slow cook recipes to pressure cooking as most convert so easily. If you do get one, I've a video testing the slow cook and talking about how to adapt (if you've not seen already). Good luck with your search.

Made sous vide ( temperature control is not great ) and yoghurt ( absolutely fantastic result) But I’m now wishing I had bought the pro if only for the handles on the inner pot. Come on Instant Pot .. make those handles a basic standard feature at the least. Nice clear and concise review too! Cheers !

I have this same IP Pro and I have to say, I’ve made bread and cakes in it which were great! Also, it makes the creamiest cheese cake ever and is much easier than in a pan of water in the oven. They are all considerably smaller though. And you need special sized pans. Thanks for your tips, especially how to turn off the annoying sounds! I just found your channel and subscribed😊

Thank you for the breakdown of the good, bad and ugly. I will be using mine for lots of vegetables, beans, yogurt, etc., and broccoli is one of my favorites so I hope I don't turn it to mush.

Wait until you get used to it for steaming broccoli, Beans are now lots more expensive here in the US. Dry beans are wonderful cooked in these, don't cook them with acid until they are completely done, but garlic and salt add so much flavor and taste nothing like canned beans.

Susan, this was really interesting! I love the handles on the inner pot, and the way it sets itself to cook when you seal the lid. (Such an easy detail to overlook!) Sadly, I don't think I can justify buying a newer model when my old one is working fine. But it's quite tempting. . .
@CookingandCalm11 ай бұрын
Hi Pam, I know, I felt the same. I’d say the biggest reason to upgrade is probably if you do a lot of searing/saute or lifting out the pot with very hot liquids (like when I do my marmalade) as it really is so much better. (unless you already have evo plus which has same inner pot). I’m trying to test the models more now for you all as I find the IP range and info so very confusing, even though I’ve been using them for years. I picked up an IP Pro Crisp on Black Friday to test and I’ve only had a quick look so far, but that one doesn’t have the customisable buttons, for example. I’m constantly confused 🙃

Thank you for your very thorough reviews! You hinted in another video at the differences between this model and the the Pro Crisp one with the air fryer lid, that go beyond the lid itself, but as someone who doesn't own an Instant Pot yet, those different aren't clear to me. Would you mind making a video comparing the two models (or just explaining in a comment if there aren't may)? Thank you!
@CookingandCalm9 ай бұрын
Glad it was helpful!I am going to do that one but in the meantime I just answered for someone else so here’s a cut and paste :) I’ll do a vid on this soon. In some ways it’s the usual differences eg. You lose things like the yogurt button to make room for the air-fryer pre-set buttons. Look closely at the pics and you’ll see there are less pre-sets on the ‘Instant Pot side’ as there needs to be room for the Airfryer pre-sets. All of that I expected. But then some other differences …on the IP Pro, there are 5 customisable favourites buttons on there. These aren’t present on the Pro Crisp. There are also less preset functions programmed in as you spin the dial (so eg. No rice button with the white and brown settings) This doesn’t matter if you don’t use presets but is different. Also the display on the IP Pro is newer and sharper - I expected them to be the same. Also on the Pro there is that little timer feature now where you can set natural release to ‘beep’ after 5 or 10 minutes. That’s not present on the Pro Crisp. None of these are game changers for me personally, and I’m enjoying the Pro Crisp very much, but I was surprised at some of the differences. I do miss those favourite buttons cos I have a terrible memory. Hope that helps til I can get to making a vid on this 😊

Hi Susan, I am loving your videos, so thank you for your time. May you please explain the difference between 0-minute pressure cooking, and the steam function, for cooking broccoli and other veggies? Anna
@CookingandCalm12 күн бұрын
Thanks so much Anna. The steam function is a bit weird on Instant Pots. For some model it is under pressure so essentially exactly the same as pressure cooking. For others it is more like a 'normal steamer' and takes much longer. For us pressure cooking peeps, we use 0 minute cos it's so fast and energy efficient, but you do need to be on the ball and get in that pressure release fast. It's fun! (oh dear, did I say tat out loud? Such a nerd 🤓)

Perfect video thanks, you are fantastic. The sauté function, if the pot can be used on a gas hob is it not better to do that than fiddle with the pot inside the machine?
@CookingandCalm2 күн бұрын
Ah that’s very kind. I tend to be sautéeing eg onions,carrots and celery then adding meat/chicken etc and on to pressure cooking rather than ‘saute only’ so it’s all about the one pot thing . Also used if food is a little too liquidy after cooking - can put on sauce and simmer for a bit to reduce. Hope that helps explain and thanks for asking. I’ve been using these things a for so long I talk in riddles sometimes 🤣. I just posted a video on which features matter top help people thinking of buying one, so that might help if you’re diving into Instant Pot research 😊kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGmxq6tvmLeViLcsi=NWUpSBaqnyGDQ18y

Hi Susan your a pleasure to watch keep up the good work I’m looking at buying an Insta pot but quiet a lot on conflicting reviews I’m liking the Insta pot pro just wondering weather it dehydrates The main functions I’m wanting are Dehydration Pressure cooking Slow cooking Rice cooking What cooker would you recommend Thanks in advance Trent
@CookingandCalm8 күн бұрын
Hi Trent. Let's have a go...I'm just about to do a video on what to think about when trying to choose. Basically there's no easy answer so it's working out which features are your number 1 important, and which you can compromise on so that was really helpful that you listed what is important to you. -Instant Pots' strength is pressure cooking ✅ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ so that's the main reason for getting one. They are all great pressure cookers and I can't recommend enough for this (barring the Ultimate Lid - there's a vid on that, but basically, don't do it IMO). - Dehydrator: It's only the combined airfryer models that have dehydrate function (at least in UK) - so that's Instant Pot Duo Crisp, Instant Pot Pro Crisp and Ultimate Lid (I don't recommend that last one). It works really well but *only in very small batches* ✅🫤 so if you do a lot of dehydrating you might find this frustrating. You can see me using the dehydrator function on Duo Crisp here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGergJesbranhdE I have a better separate dehydrator for big batch since i made this video, but do still use my Pro Crisp for small batch dehydrate, especially strawberries! So good! - Slow cooking 🫤- I'm not big on slow cooking and find it's best to pressure cook those kinds of recipes. Most translate really easily and taste better IMO and also use very little energy to cook as so quick. Some models are better than others for slow cooking from what I hear but many are super slow and not at all as good as a crockpot style. See my vid here for why and my experience and adjustments I suggest (unless you're lucky and find one that works well out of the box) kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3bMXn2Bis51nM0si=MMMjUaqLPHMTvMhE - Rice Cooking- they're all pretty good ✅ and it's more about experimenting with timing to get the rice to the texture you like. I love cooking eg. a curry in the bottom and rice on top using the 'pot in pot' method. Saves so much time and energy. As with any multifunction device, you'll never beat a standalone fancy rice cooker, but for most of us, all good Hope that helps. I feel your pain. It's so hard to decide but ultimately, I think you'll find it a fun addition to your kitchen. I use mine daily.Good luck!

Hi Susan - I'm currently researching the various IP options before I purchase, and your videos are very helpful. My questions though - You're on your 5th IP in 7 years time. Do they keep breaking or do you have a stable of IPs that meet different needs? What's your experience on the longevity of these appliances? TIA for the help and thank you for your very informative videos! 🙏
@CookingandCalm2 ай бұрын
Hi there, yes I have a small IP stable 😉. I bought my first 6L Duo when that was the only model and it blew me away, so when the UK version of Duo Crisp came out I bought that straight away to do my batch cooking (I got the larger one) and because I was so keen on that air fryer lid. After that, I started the youtube channel and I have bought more models partly in response to requests to review them here, and partly because I just love a gadget 🤣 and I'm always in search of that perfect Instant Pot. I still have my first Duo (sentimental reasons - I will likely donate that soon as we've moved house and have little storage here), the Evo I gave to my sister after I bought the 'Ultimate Lid' - this Ultimate Lid is the only one that 'broke' on me and I returned to the shop. I don't recommend that one now as lots of others have reported problems too. As best as I can remember, I just don't hear problems on the other models except where someone has put on the stove and melted it accidentally etc. That can happen to any of us ! The two I have on active duty are the Instant Pot Pro and the Instant Pot Pro Crisp. I am a big fan of the new style inner pots which is why I love these two. The Pro 6L is a great 'everyday' pot for us and the Pro Crisp is my larger one (8L) for batch cooks and also, again, because for me I love especially roast chicken with the combo pressure cook and air fry method. I tend to swap between the two dependent on what's going on seasonally and what my favourite things to cook are at any time. I've experienced excellent longevity with all that I've owned and I always seem to be able to get the spare sealing rings, inner pots etc for these models. I didn't get the same with the Ultimate Lid and also I've recently tried the 'big Ninja' which seems very hard to get spares for. The noise of that was driving us mad so I've put it away for now but will review eventually for the channel. I hope that helps a bit - I've not tried any of those newer models as my stable is full right now but I'm sure others have on youtube. In my opinion, IP are making too many new models as it has become so confusing (and it was already quite bad). There tend to be IP official facebook groups for Instant Pot Users in many countries and they can be a good place to get a sense of what's working for people too.

Most quick recipes has this 0 minute PC, slow-cooker function is an abomination and sous vide is unreliable. But 1,5 h version of PC was still not nearly as good as 5 hours stove top. I hadn't owned an IP before my Pro.. I watched your vids to learn more about cooking methods ... you were so enlightening/easy to follow ... :).. but I'm still slow to convert recipes... so... I do slow cook in my IP(as one son likes shop bought sauces(he used them when at uni) ...n I find I just throw them in2 IP after browning meats add fresh veg(chunky broccoli included), make sure saute heats everything up... n don't worry myself about 'burn' notices -(I'm new to IP recipe converting n this seemed easier than me trying to make sure IP liquid was thin enough not to burn... ). On slow cook-Hot my pot sits happily from mid mornin until 'anytime' teatime so son can eat when he's ready. ....so glad I'm watching you ... I forget I can use just 'steam' no pressure ... :)) thx nb ... whilst Pro is on slo cook... :)) I have the use of a new IP Duo mini Plus ... so like the 'spinning pot as I can turn the pot whilst de-glazing ... it saves burning it when on 'saute'... but, on the Pro ... I find if Saute cookin becomes too hot one just has to pick up inner pot turn 20° in either direction n hang the pot from its handles for a few seconds to cool it off ...

We are in two, but sometimes I am even alone at home. Does it make any sense? (6qt would probably be too small for storaging and too be for single person). Thanks and good luck with your channel! 🙏🏻

Oh thank you so much and welcome 👋. I've not had the small one so can't say directly but I would say that even with the big ones we can cook small portions too by using 'pot in pot' method (see my rice video), whereas with snmall ones you can't 'go big'. So much depends on how you cook and how much storage you have. I'm sure whichever way you go, you will be able to make it work well for you as they are so flexible. And yes, I am a big fan of the big size for batch cooking and freezing too. The good thing about the Pro model is that the inner pot works on the hob/stovetop too so if you end up getting an extra inner pot (which I always do) it can replace one of your large saucepans to save some room in the cupboard. I got rid of my preserving pan as I can do marmalade etc in my 8Qt . Not quite as wide but great capacity. I hope you enjoy cooking with it.

I am about to buy one which model is best being that you are an expert in this :) Also, I have read that rice, vegetables and eggs are not suggested to cook in pressure cooking as it will produce certain acids which are harmful. And another question, what is it about the slow cook as many discourage to use it on this pot. Thank you for your information.
@CookingandCalm3 ай бұрын
Hi there, I've had good luck with all of the models I've had apart from the one with built on lid (called the Ultimate here in the UK). It just depends how you cook , the space you have in your kitchen and budget really. On the food 'acid' issues, I have not heard of any problems like that at all and wonder if that is reliable information. On the slow cooking, the Instant Pot is not great at it but it can be done. If you are big on slow cooking, you may want to keep your crockpot or whatever you use currently. It's best to think of it as an electric pressure cooker primarily then the other functions are extras. Here's my video showing you what I've learned from slow cooking in there, and I hope this helps 👍 kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3bMXn2Bis51nM0si=GiITaMeNYcmKpclW

I've been so frustrated with the saute function being too high. Thank you for sharing that you can customize it! That will help a lot. Question, do you find that you get more BURN messages with this pot? A lot of the recipes I like using start by sauteing something, so this could be related to that setting being too high and not fully de-glazing after. Side note, I found with the old IP I have, the inner pot being able to freely spin helped reduce hot spots of the heating element

Hi there, sorry to hear that. Some possibles things to think about (1) make sure not to over-stir when you add the yogurt and make sure milk has cooled down enough (2) Once through the long ferment stage, pop in fridge overnight before eating (3) you probably already do this but for Greek yogurt, you will need to strain through muslin or similar. The method I use is more or less the same as with my old Duo Crisp. You can see that here and hopefully you can adapt to suit you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2ekkqhupa59opY

Im excited haha. I just got one of these for christmas. Im eager to learn canning. Its actually kind of wild to see this machine has all these features. Ive also got no experience pressure cooking food. My grandmother did a lot and i actually have 3 of her old pressure cookers but im too nervous to use them since i remember her saying the gauges may not work properly. But i guess i know nothing about like pressure cooking food. Ive never heard about 0 minute cooking. Im intrigued and excited to learn about pressure cooking.

That's great! Welcome to Instant Pot Cooking! Yes, I'd really encourage you to experiment with pressure cooking as this is the number 1 function for these kinds of Instant Pots and it's a game-changer. I know those old pressure cookers too and Instant Pots are just so different as they're electric and with the benefit of computer chips and for so many safety features. Take your time and start simple - soups are a great place to start for pressure cooking. And don't worry about the fails- we all have them.And if you don't have a food disaster with your Instant Pot as you learn, that probably means it's still in the box :) I don't have the version for canning myself but do use mine for cutting the time massively for making marmalades and I've used it as a 'big pot' for water bath canning really well. For pressure canning I'd check forums and USDA etc re Instant Pot canning as it's more specialist and has more food safety issues than the kind of stuff I do. So many helpful people in this community. Enjoy!

The steamer is a "bad" for us. With the duo, we steamed carrots for 12 minutes and it would reach pressure. Comes out great for the kids. The pro doesn't reach pressure and after 30 minutes it's still hard.

Yes, some cook under pressure and some don't. Then one of mine is supposed to steam non pressure but it keeps self sealing. Bit of a minefield so I'm interested in what everyone else is finding. Thanks so much for sharing.

@CookingandCalm3 ай бұрын
There isn't out of the box (at least as far as I know) but you can use any ovenproof tray or pot in there on air fry setting, or just air fry on the included stainless steel trivet thing and add foil/silicon (or a material you're happy with) to stop the food falling through. I hope that helps. I wish we had more choices here too

It’s the 0 minute method where you put on pressure cook for 0 minute - steam builds and when it reaches pressure , you release straight away. So it’s basically cooking as steam builds. Takes more than a second though :)

That’s why I bought the Instant Pot Duo couple years ago
@sadlynomicah11 ай бұрын
Hiya, thank you for the video. Will you be getting rid of your Duo Crisp do you think? I have room for one instant pot in my kitchen and have found that I mostly pressure cook. I rarely slow cook or air fry. I do like the idea of a sterilise function as I'd like to try preserving.
@CookingandCalm11 ай бұрын
Hiya, I hang onto most of my IPs now just because of the channel here, and I'm going to try the Pro Crisp next but this smaller Pro will be my everyday IP as I really like it and can get along with combining things in the drawer air fryer mostly. Like you say, if you don't do much air frying or dehydrating, the pressure cooker is the big win and this Pro is very good and saves you counter/cupboard space. They're all good pressure cookers really but the inner pot is a big difference. I've used my duo for making jams and marmalade just using pressure cooker to soften then saute for boiling with sugar. I use my big 8L Duo Crisp for that as boiling orange peels with molten sugar need a lot of space so it's more like a wider preserving pan in that way. Also need the room to get your jars in (unless you try small batches which can be fun especially when you're learning) I tend to sterilise my jars by running through the dishwasher on hot finish or put in the oven and I hadn't thought of that use for sterilise- thank you! I'm not sure which country you're in but the new Instant Pot Pro Plus has the 'canning' function for preserving lower acid foods like meats and soups etc but it's a bit contentious as it hasn't been approved by the FSDA for canning as far as I know Hope that helps. January is coming quicker than we think and that's the season for getting in some seville oranges for marmalade! My favourite :)
@sadlynomicah11 ай бұрын
@@CookingandCalm hi, thank you for the information. I am definitely interested in the one with the canning function and based on what you have said, I might just hold out longer. I am in the UK, and last time I looked it wasn't available here. I have never made jam, so thought I'd give it a go and would love to preserve my vegetables. I love pressure cooking, but I also followed your recipes for a roast in the instant pot. That worked really well, and I have used the air fryer lid for browning off hotpots etc. I am going to watch your slow cooking video later. I have slow cooked a few times and realised that I need a much heavier hand with herbs and spices for that function. I did buy a lid following your recommendation and that made a difference (none of my pan lids had a hole). However, I found that with pressure cooking, I can be lazier/spontaneous with meal planning and cook with frozen meat. This has meant, I feel more relaxed. Love the videos. Thank you.

Yes I'm definitely a pressure cooker gal and that air fryer lid for a little browning works well on so many things. Just a bit of something extra at the end. Love it!

Hello. Thanks for this video. It's been a while since I commented on one of your videos, but I have the Instant Pot Pro Crisp 11-in-1 So it's a pro... But doesn't have the yoghurt or favourite buttons. 1. So the crisp with the air fryer lid has features removed that the model you have (without the air fryer lid) despite them both being pro ? 2. Also I want to ask In relation to the instant pot. The "dehydrator" function. As it's one of the ONLY things I have not explored. But want to. Whenever I make cookies using a normal oven. They always come out chewy and soft. Like American cookies.. I cook them perfect, but that's exactly how the recipe intended them to be. How do we make biscuits like ginger nuts, custard cream, or rich tea, which are much crispier and have a SNAP. Can we use the dehydrator on the instant pot and a 5 layer dehydrator rack? 3. Finally... I have seen your video making yoghurt with The Instant Pot Pro Crisp 11-in-1 And commented on it before. I love making yoghurt this way. But my stainless steel pot tends to burn milk, which ends up in the yoghurt creating a gritty texture. Is it possible to get a ceramic liner for the Instant Pot Pro Crisp 11-in-1? Which I feel ceramic won't burn milk like steel. I bought one but my instant pot doesn't detect it ! Perhaps there's another solution to scalding the milk but not having the milk burn on the bottom of the pot? Thanks so much for your videos. Love them all
@CookingandCalm11 ай бұрын
Hi again Dave! Hope you're well and thank so much for that. 1. Yes I can't understand why they've done that as you'd think there'd be a way. I've just got the same model as yours for testing for the channel and can see what you mean. I really do like those extra favourite buttons so it will be interesting to see how it goes. 2. "dehydrator" function - to be honest I'm not much of a baker as I'm very imprecise, so sadly you're asking the wrong person. (Though I did make some good dog biscuits in my duo crisp ;) It doesn't feel like you should have to use dehydrate to get the crunch but maybe it's hard to replicate because the food companies do spend loads on research for these 'mouth feel' things we love so it could be partly that. I looked at Delia Smiths website and she has a ginger biscuit that's meant to have real snap. I wonder if it's worth trying one of those kinds of recipes first and seeing how it turns out. (google 'delia smith gingernut recipe' for the recipe) Otherwise, it won't harm your instant pot to experiment. Dehydrating is super easy in there for small batches. I've got a video on dehydrating strawberries and making powdered veg bouillon stock mix from random old veg if it helps. The youtuber who is brilliant on dehydrating is @purposefulpantry and a good website too so that might have some info. 3. Instant pot don't do the ceramic as far as I know and as you say, replicas don't usually work well or reliably so i've never gone there. I've not had this gritty thing so I'm puzzled. Could be worth running the hot milk through a tea strainer/fine sieve before moving to that second stage? I usually scald my milk direct in the pot then for the ferment I always do mine in jars standing in a trivet. I use riverford milk which is not homogenised. No idea if that might be making a difference. Maybe experiment with another brand milk and also give the milk a good shake as the creamy part is what's most likely to burn I think. Not sure any of that that helps but hope you get it sorted.👍
