Check out the Merch Store: growling-sidewinder.creator-spring.com/ So as mentioned in the video, the Ghost of Kyiv still needs to be verified so lets not jump to conclusions, it could be multiple Mig-29s scoring kills that are being credited to 1 Mig-29 by people on the ground who don't know what they're seeing/looking at and there is general fog of war, but IF he is real he is one hell of a pilot. We will know more as the dust settles, thank you guys for watching and a big thank you to Bronko for flying as the bandit aircraft today.

The Ghost Of Kyiv"s main advantage, if true, was on a day when almost everything in the air was hostile, the Ghost Of Kyiv didn't have to i.d. his targets. Whereas the Russian aircraft had to hold fire until they were reasonably sure it wasn't a friendly. That's a huge advantage to the Ghost. Given that, I think it could (emphasis on "could") easily have happened.

Interesting. You are definitely right about the "fog of war", it's hard enough to find out what's happening on the ground. My perception (could be completely wrong) is that most Russian aircraft are coming in on ground attack, which gives advantage to a clever local armed for aerial combat. With no meaningful enemy AA systems operating, I think the sneaky assassin would be a more meaningful rendition. But great work.

GoK is as much as real as Serbian "knights" flying MiG-29s and downing dozens of NATO planes during the 1999 NATO campaign. n.b As much as capable Mig-29 as a platform might be, those in the Ukrainian AF are obsolete variants, most likely not very well maintained, and their pilots having their flight hours in the very low figures.

I garuntee russian pilots thought the Ukrainian airforce is incompetent and underequiped and were told the majority of threats will come from AAA, SAMS, manpads, their eyes would be on the ground their jets bomb laden and they would not be expecting attack from the air, and historicaly the VAST majority of air to air kills were one pilot bouncing the other and shooting them down before they even knew they were in danger, the ghost would be flying a plane that russian pilots also fly, so the average russian pilot would be weary of shooting first as to not cause a friendly fire incident, also the ghost would have a seriously target rich environment all of these factors weigh heavily in the ghost favor, much much craziers things have happened in war

A wonderful story, but this isn't WWII. There just aren't enough Russian jets in the air to provide the "Ghost" with enough targets that he can splash SIX of them in a single day. You have to consider the limited combat endurance of the MiG-29 - especially with an air to air loadout, lack of tanker support, and the need to fly low for survivability. Staying close to terrain will also limit the effectiveness of his radar to detect targets. Worse for the Ghost, Ukraine doesn't have any AWACS up, let alone datalink capabilities to communicate radar information. NATO has AWACS flying nearby, but that communication chain has to be a nightmare.

Russia don't use Su-27 for a while. Right now it's Su-30 and Su-35 all over the place. Even MiG-29's are only in the fleet. It's always nice to see a new video on your channel. The political overtones make it less enjoyable, even though it's a request from the comments. Hope this war will be over soon.

So far, the only video I've seen of fixed-winged kills was what looks like a Ukrainian MiG-29 that engaged a pair of Russian Su-25s at pretty much point-blank range (it looked like within a kilometer) and killed the trailing Frogfoot before peeling away at a height of only a couple hundred meters.

One thing about the Ghost of Kyiv stuff is that much of the footage has combat occurring very close to the deck. In this videos it seems to be trying to set up fights like what we see in the videos that have come out of Kyiv. But a lot of this is probably selection bias too. Phone cameras cant capture a dogfight at BVR up at 20k feet or whatever. How does the MiG-29 stack up against these adversaries in a BVR fight an can we get a BVR rematch at some point?
@supersteele6019
@supersteele6019 2 жыл бұрын
The MiG 29 has good radar, but it is nowhere near as advanced as what Russia has. Keep in mind the MiG 29 is pretty old (outmatched by most aircraft in service around the world), so the best way to even the odds against more advanced aircraft is to reduce your radar signature by being close to the deck and avoid BVR as much as possible.

One thing that could be in play is the fact that average Russian pilot has just around 100 hours per year in the plane.. while Ukrainian pilots, like for example the Su-27 pilot killed in dogfight, had 2000 hours.. and there are supposedly multiple such experienced Ukrainian pilots flying.. so while they are outmatched with technology, experience is on their side.

Is it possible that the ghost is fighting over an area saturated with MANPADS operated by people who can at least distinguish friend from foe? This can definitely reduce the Russian pilot's survival rate. Also, it appears that keeping the Russians within knife fighting range is crucial. Very risky business, but people have been known to stay lucky for a while.

I mean, it's a neat story, sure... but it's just way too unlikely of it really happen! There are simply too many things speaking against it than for it to be real. Plus, as far as I've heard, the one responsible for the rumor already admitted it was born of a 4 am Discord call! He heard something about 4 Air-to-Air kills - not even from the same pilot - and made everything up on the spot...
