On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

For people who don't understand why pilots talk about 'Probability of Kill' rather than range is because the range of any given missile is extremely variable based on launch conditions: how fast the launch jet is flying, how high they are flying, the altitude of the enemy bandit and finally their aspect. It's not like surface-to-surface munitions where both the launch platform and targets are relatively stationary, the relative movement of combatants in the air makes figuring out ranges pretty complicated.
@BrianTRice77
@BrianTRice77 11 ай бұрын
I think it’s also unclear to most that radar cross section (RCS) as a radius is also a statistical measure. The likelihood of getting a solid return is modeled as a probability of a random radar scan hitting a target of that radius (more or less). So the PK of each target is drastically precluded by getting a lock on something your radar will only get occasional back scatter from. I’m not saying this clearly, but everyone’s making jokes about bumblebees on radar screens which is a fun thought but not now it works.
@Raz.C
@Raz.C 11 ай бұрын
Pk is usually a function of range. Also, whether the target is moving towards or away from the launch platform (jet or sam or manpad or ship) or moving towards and finally, whether the target is manoeuvring or not (big arse bomber, or a small fighter). Usually all these are going to factor into Pk. I can't remember if altitude is a significant variable, but you could probably find that out by googling it.
@Raz.C
@Raz.C 11 ай бұрын
@@BrianTRice77 RCS is also affected by which face of the airframe is being presented to a radar. I don't understand all the details of modern radar, but I can understand when they say that various VHF bands are most susceptible to scattering only within a 60 degree cone of the nose of an aircraft and that L band radars are the least susceptible to scattering of 1mm wavelengths. But if we assume that GCI is using older radars and they happen to get a view of the side of stealth platform, that is where stealth is least useful. Also, FLIR and IRST are useful in tracking stealth aircraft travelling towards it, due to the heat generated by the compressed air when at supersonic speeds. At supercruise velocity of Mach 1.6, air temp reaches 180 degrees Celsius dropping to 120 Celsius at Mach 1. This makes detection possible at 80 nautical miles. But that's only relevant for an air platform searching for stealth aircraft. Lastly, the F-35 has a number of restrictions when it comes to stealth (that the Raptor doesn't have). These include its stealth performance being degraded (almost useless) in the rain and the stealth coating starting to peel off at supersonic velocities. Last I heard, F-35 fleets were restricted from supersonic velocities for any bursts longer than a minute. All of these are going to affect RCS or detectability in significant ways. Best option is to keep using stealth aircraft ONLY against 3rd world nations.

@@Raz.C range and ALTITUDE, especially considering that at high altitude you can use non pulse doppler modes on radar meaning they cant then be notched down low using PD mode you can survive a launch even if you cross into NEZ if you manage to hit the notch fast enough, up high you are simply toast - you cant run, you cant dodge and there is no notching to save you

@clairecelestin8437

Your thinking is correct, but there are some strategies to try to remain stealthy and not show up as obviously on RWR until it's too late for the target to evade. In particular, I've heard (non-classified rumor) that the F-22 will change the wavelength of its radar beam thousands of times per second to not be an obvious source on RWR, and that it will use a relatively low transmit power to track targets. As for the AMRAAM's, when they're launched, they use the guidance information from the F-22 until they're in their terminal phase, and then they switch on their radar. At that point, the AMRAAM's will definitely show on RWR, but by that time they're too close for the targets to defend effectively. The original idea was for the F-22 to primarily use infrared (IRST) to find and track targets, which would allow it to keep its radar turned off while moving into position to fire. As I understand that wasn't done, however there have been some recent talks about adding IRST capability to the platform. Another thing to consider is that the F-22 can accept targeting data from something else- AWACs, F-35, another F-22- and that would allow it to get close with its radar off until after it had launched. I think the real (classified) strategies will be a combination of these, and hopefully a few things that haven't been publicly thought of or discussed.

Holy poop. When the bombs start falling from the B-52s... That is what I call an overwhelming surplus of diggity.

Crazy how surgical the F-22 is, literally one shot one kill. Even with limited payload, still made 8 kills by missiles and 1 by 20 mm, awesome. Its like 1 bodyguard protecting 7 B-52s...imagine what a fleet of them can do.

A perfect video to showcase what the Raptor was designed to do! Get high and fast, and kill the enemy from a long distance to clear the skies for friendly forces; all without being seen. This was also a hilarious video for a couple of reasons: 1) I loved how you used that Southern American twang accent when sneaking up behind those two flankers flying low on the deck. "They 'gon learn today!"😂 2) When you were toying with that AWACs like a cat playing with it's food. Love your videos!

Can you imagine the enemy pilot seeing nothing on radar to seeing a sudden spike in radar then nothing again. LOL. Opening and closing the weapons bay, must be crazy. Going from no hostiles to dead.

So two things GS: 1- that B52 drop was the prettiest bomb run I’ve ever seen 2- the way you executed the AWACS would absolutely have you in front of a board of inquiry lol that was cruel and unusual punishment. Could you imagine that pilots radio call as he realizes you are surgically removing their engines before dumping a load into the fuselage? My God 😅
