Always fun to watch. I think DCS is very generous when it comes to modeling Russian capabilities. In a real fight, personally, I don't think any Russian fighter would be able to lock-up a F22. The only exception would be if it was on the F22's tail.

@andersjjensen5 ай бұрын
@@joseglenn20 The AMRAAM's internal radar is nowhere nearly as sophisticated as what is on the F-22 (for rather obvious cost, size and weight reasons). Ground clutter, as it is called, is the irregular and constantly changing radar return from the ground itself, and it's hard for the radar (or rather, processing unit) to separate out one moving thing against a backdrop of constant "noise" like that. As soon as you go over water, especially calm water, it gets much easier to detect the aircraft. So if you can get under the missile and over a hilly forrest you have an advantage. Getting under the missile, but over a calm lake, is about the same as letting it track you on the backdrop of empty sky.

I watched a video about the Su57 that explained the design principles. The primary goal of the project was to counter stealth aircraft, and a significant part of the budget was spent on neutralizing stealth. One example of this is using l band radar which lacks the precision to target, but has much greater range at the same power level, and is capable of tracking stealth aircraft, at range. My theory is they use Lband radar to narrow the search window of thier asea radar, allowing to focus all the power of thier radar on a tiny area.
