On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

I don’t know shit but I like watching these and hearing your play by play….however I notice that when you’re attacking in a 2 circle trying to close down against a better rate fighting aircraft, you don’t ever seem to employ any displacement rolls with the Tomcat? I imagine the rudder control on the F-14 could easily pivot the tail around and cut the circle in half pretty quickly without losing too much energy? Maybe I just don’t understand the limitations of the F-14.

The thing that make Bandit Unknown interesting is that he has to figure out at the merge what he's fighting and how he'll go about fighting it. With the F-16 it doesn't matter what he's fighting, the answer is always to just keep it 2-circle, simple as. So I don't think it'd be particularly interesting, as much as I love the Viper.

Then you have aircraft like the f18, flankers, and other aircraft to force the viper into a 1 circle. I think you bring up a valid point, however I think it can still be interesting and fun.

Heh Sidewinder , my nephew was a Navy pilot and at the end of his enlistment he was an instructor , taking the pilots in training through their last rotation , landing on Carriers . Pretty brutal expectations , the trainee has 3 attempts at night , and 2 attempts in the daytime . If they fail to land successfully in those attempts , they are out of jets and go to either helicopters or props . I don't know how it is nowadays { he left service in early 2000s } , but he flys for Southwest Airlines now . I visit him often and there are usually a few of his fellow ex-Navy pilots there with him . Listening to them talk all the flight language sounds exactly how you talk when in DCS . You should of been a freakin pilot dude , I am really enjoying your channel. I find myself power watching episodes for hours.. Great stuff Sidewinder !!! 👍👊

The other (speculation) is that the Tomcat is better at low speed and a viper cannot maintain 400 knots+ fighting vertically. Tomcat is high thrust/high lift where the viper is more high thrust/medium lift. It always comes down to making the enemy play your game.

There's nothing like "knowing thy enemy", or at least the strengths and weaknesses of his aircraft and your own. That's part of what Operation Red Flag is all about, I suppose, the chance to fly against the aircraft you might really need to face someday, and learn how to play the game to your advantage.

I feel like a lot of people under rate the F-14 as an air superiority fighter (which is what it was designed for), I think it is because its aim-54 missiles got so much press that it has given the F-14 a lop sided image.

@@xsu-is7vq part of the short comings of the tomcat came from cost cuttings as there were concern over the cost of the plane that also hurt it. The f14 was replacing the f4 phantom as fleet defender and air superiority fighter and the f14 was much more expensive.

I'm fine with a slight nerf on flight performance, but they need to improve the guidance on the C variant, which currently is pretty much no difference from A variant.

I never thought I would like to watch someone playing a game like this. You are an amazing teacher. Back in early 2000’s i played a game a lot. I once had been heavily damaged, so the flight controls had locked up. I was in a slow descending right turn. The enemy instead of finishing me off, flew right in front of me! I gave him the 1 Aim 9 I had left and lmao for several minutes.

You not only explained the theory flawlessly but also gave us practical tidbits (i.e. seeing the top of his aircraft as if passing each other on a highway, introducing a bit of vertical to shift the circle over, etc). I never thought I'd think this but as soon as I'm done building my computer I'm for sure downloading DCS (and using your 10%-off coupon code if it's still valid at that time ^^). I do have one question/request though: how exactly does the offset two-circle fight mechanics work in a vertical rate fight? For example, say I want to shift my circle over... but I'm already going vertical, soo what do I move more parallel to the horizon and back? Also how do I account for fluctuating factors such as the vector of gravitational force and amount of air resistance? Maybe one day you can do a tacview explaining it so we aren't as intimidated by vertical rate fights :P Thanks again man, I never miss a single one of your videos. You Rock 🤘
