On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

Hey GS! Hope you're doing well. Can you clarify low and high aspect in the next video? Also, what physical characteristics make a plane better in radius fight versus in the rate fight? E.g., how can we look at an Viper and tell “O! This will be a good rate fighter, since it has _____ kind of control surfaces or aerofoil design”, or look at a Hornet and tell “Since the structure of this plane has ____ characteristics, it must be in good in a one circle”?

I don't know why but the vulcan on the tomcat just FEELS better. It shreds anything it touches... Also helps that its gun reticle is outstandingly accurate and precise.

It’s frankly an upgrade over the Russian autocannons on their air superiority fighters. M61 is a larger weapon system than the GSh-30-1. More complex. Designed for a longer service life. Etc. Given how rare it’d be for a fighter to use the gun nowadays it’s understandable that the Russian weapon is a more limited system.

@@moonman6359 everything has its plus and minus points. 30mm cannon slower fire rate, less rounds, but if you get a few rounds on target the other guys toast. Vulcan like you say uses volume of fire with less potent rounds.

The M61 still has pretty outstanding ballistics, even if the 20mm isn't as punchy as most other aircraft cannon. Some of that is down to the round, improved even further with the new ammunition series introduced for the F-22's -A2 variant, and a lot to the high muzzle velocity, like big brother GAU-8. I assume that GE could afford to use a bigger case & more energetic propellant, with the wear & tear being distributed across six barrels.

Very evenly matched. With the B/D GE-F100 engines, the Tomcat and Flanker had the same thrust to weight. Their size is also very similar with Flanker being a bit bigger. Tomcat has a little advantage in the rate fight while Flanker (like the Hornet) has lots of AoA, which makes it better in the one-circle. All comes down to the pilot.

One circle is a radius fight. the Tomcat is very good at one circle, thanks to the slow corner speed and also the bleeding of energy that tighten the turn. But cannot sustain it for long. Probably the Flanker Is comparable here. When comes to the two circle, that is a rate fight, the Flanker has the upper hand.

P-51D Mustang as the most beautiful prop driven fighter, but I agree on the Tomcat. The Eagle is a close second, but those spindly gear make it look too dainty on the ground.

Didnt they IMPROVE the f14's rate and high aoa handling ability back in october? Think they also improved the yaw sas. It was very slightly underperforming at sea level. It was mostly about the handling tweaks and improved carrier landings tho

Unlike the hornet, there is a ton of charts available in the public domain. The STR is spot on. So continuing on from BrokenUrsa's comment, a good two-circle fighter would have a high thrust-to-weight ratio and low wing loading. A low wing loading means that it can turn tighter without stalling and a high thrust-to-weight ratio means that it can sustain tight turns without losing energy. A good one-circle fighter would likely have excellent control at high angles of attack, because in a one-circle fight your machines will probably be pulling high angles of attack to be able to get a gun solution (so expect to see leading-edge root extensions and wings with washout, such as on the F-18 and Su-27). It would also have a low wing loading so that it can perform very low-radius turns without stalling.

Hey, Growling Sidewinder. I'm new to DCS and my first pack is FC3 (quite obvious). And I have a question. I tried to sort it out by myself, but I kinda got lost at some point and found not really much info on full fidelity upgrade of FC3 planes. Will there ever be such thing? If ED don't have enough info on some more advanced flight model stuff (which is a part of full fidelity, afaik), why don't they do at least clickable cockpits? (Even as a paid upgrade) Do they think it is not gonna be profitable or they actually have some plans they have announced? There are really iconic planes in that module! I understand that probably almost everyone is asking that question, but I haven't managed to find an explicit answer to it. Thus any info will be much appreciated. And I absolutely love your videos 😍 Both entertaining and informative, because you explain what is happening and what should or shouldn't happen. That's really awesome. ED doesnt have access to the needed informations to make high fidelity versions of the time or men power to make them. Also the FC-3 planes have a profesional flight model like the high fidelity ones. Only exception are the Su-25T and Su-25A which use a advance flight model.

Y'all need to do a widespread match, where at an unknown time an "incident" occurs that shuts down all electronic assisted flight controls. So you could seemingly come in with a raptor and DOMINATE, but all the sudden fall out of the sky, and somebody that managed to sneak around in a P-51, or A-10 (with the redundant controls), or anything with some kind of manual backup, could end up taking it. And by "electronic assisted" I mean FBW.. And all missile guidance is blocked as well, guns only.

@@newdeathscope An "electronic" trigger, does boil down to an analog signal from a direct pilot input, that in a closed system, fires off a relay, that in turn directly through airframe only power, initiates said system. Kinda like you turning on your headlights in your car. It's a closed system, even though it's "electronic". Yes, they'll all lose they're computed firing cones, and pipers, but the direct electrical would still be in effect. I do agree with you that any old birds that managed to survive the initial onslaught that the "newest most bestest" would wreak. Would indeed OWN the day afterwards.

The SU-33 has about an extra ~800 pounds of thrust in its Saturn engines but that's mostly neutralized by the additional weight of the airframe

Well in this game flankers are fucked up...they have in reality best isntanteniously turn rate with over 31°/sec...so Su 27 will out turn easly F14 and kill it in dog fight. I do not know why ED do not update Su27 flight characteristics... Also Su 27 has batter power to weight ratio than F14B/D, but still in this game he luck of power...
