To ask Kelly Clarkson to not be Kelly Clarkson is like asking PTX to not be PTX. They're unique artists that have lasted as long as they have because they do things that not everyone else does. If this had been softer, it wouldn't have been Kelly. Kelly doesn't over sing. She never has. She's operatically trained, which explains her power. She knows how to use her voice and when to use it. Your opinion is yours and valid for you though.

There was no over singing on Kelly’s part. You have obviously never seen a Christina Aguilera performance. Kelly’s vocal delivery was precise, controlled. She went high when she needed to towards the end to give it that oomph. And PTX beautifully supported her with background harmonies

Kelly recorded a solo version of this song the year after she won American Idol. She starts out noticably softer in that version; it's pretty much exactly what you wanted from this version. Even if you don't make a reaction video for that rendition, at least give it a listen, because I guarantee that you'll like it.

This is a collaboration that was destined to be. Scott, Kirstie & Mitch were all BIG Kelly Clarkson fans in the early days of the Trio. After PTX became successful, they were all surprised to find out that Kelly was one of THEIR biggest fans. After they appeared on Kelly's talk show, they all became good friends...so it was just a matter of time before a collab would happen. This was shot at the time when Kirstie had her broken leg. But she was a trooper and went on tour with the group anyway! BTW, this was originally a studio recording by them that was rearranged and re-recorded for a TV/video special called A Not So Silent Night...so it's not a real live recording. The intention in this version was to showcase Kelly more as she was a special guest in the show.

I am glad you pointed out about matts bass. He does generally arrange bass lines that are more conservative and arguably more mature. He doesn’t add things like Subharmonic or growls. He has a much more traditional sound. I think also with PTX touring so much he makes bass lines that are very accessible all the time and that he can project loud enough that’s dont get drowned out live. He has lower notes than he gives us most the time, but saves them for special occasions!

I see this is your first Kelly Clarkson video reaction, maybe if you watch more performances you'll change your mind. But she recently told bon jovi when he guested on her show because she covered his song that same day that she usually has to raise the key of songs she covers because she's a first soprano and that's where she's comfortable singing on even if she tries to sing it softly she still has to raise it. It probably didn't work in this scenario because they're generally soft singers and she's nowhere soft

PTX did spend some time on tour with Kelly and it really is a treat seeing them all sing together. Kelly is definitely a belter but something tells me that whoever produced this may have tweaked the mics a bit to make her stand out in the forefront. It was like Kelly and the pips LOL

Sorry bro. But Kelly killed this. If she undersang it would have been boring.

Your reaction is interesting. Your positive response re: the vocals in the a cappella vocals shows that you are least interested in interpretation of lyrics and different colors in the vocal. Some people really get moved by the choices in a singers interpretation and others listen to it kind of in the background and don’t really think about it. Different strokes.

Tou got a thump up, but it could allso have been down, for you are right about Kelly and her voice, you can't hear what she is singing, we have i Denmark a name for that, en "skrigeskinke" (a "screaming ham") and she has to know it, for the future songs. ;-)

@@kloud1972Don't get it twisted. I love Kelly Clarkson. Been watching her since American Idol and have been following the Pentatonix since the Sing Off not online but the real on on NBC. Mr. King was saying that he thought that you should of heard more of the Pentatonix like in the song Jolene with Dolly Parton. At least Mr. King didn't have to take the heat you are trying to give me. It was just his and my opinion of This Song.

No worries on your opinion about Kelly’s style of singing this cover! It is your channel and I love Kelly, but I tend to agree with you a teensy bit. I remember Amy Grant’s version and hers was a more tender vocal. PTX was amazing, as always!!

A Not So Silent Night is actually a TV Christmas special. It included appearances by Jay Leno and Kermit the Frog and of course Kelly Clarkson, to name a few. I agree with you. The way a song is sung can completely change the mood. It can cast a spell or break it. The instruments used can also make or break a song.

For one, I prefer the Maren Morris and PTX "When you Believe." I think that was one of the best songs from the Christmas special. I felt that Kelly overpowered the harmonies of Pentatonix. Hope you will check this one out.
