Hi Teapotz. Depending on how open your growth plates are and how bad the fracture is, typically it would take 4-6 weeks to heal. Good luck

No follow up as of yet but do you think we’ll have to cast for a buckle fracture of the proximal metaphysis of the first metatarsal. No dislocation. They said it involves the growth plate. My daughter will be 3 in June. There really was no evidence of a break but I pushed for it. Went the next day after they said an Xray wasn’t needed and got them done but the doctor did not see it and sent us home. Then their protocol is to they send it to a licensed radiologist and they called us back in to stabilize it. Is that Easily missed?? My intuition was right!!!I’m so glad they let me ask for the images. But still outwardly I can’t help but feel like she could heal on her own

Hello my daughter was diagnosed with a growth plate fracture in her shoulder... she was placed in a sling for 3 weeks.. She plays competitive travel softball and she is a pitcher... when should she start back throwing and pitching... and is it normal for her arm to still hurt after wearing the sling for 3 weeks
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Amber. So there are lots of factors to consider and ultimately the decision needs to come from your surgeon. The factors to consider are age - the younger she is the faster she will heal. What the X-ray looks like. Is it completely healed. We let players return to full sport when they have essentially normal range of motion , normal strength and no pain. Often players will start rehab before these criteria are met. Hopefully that helps. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing

My son fracture his left knee growth plate and had a successful surgery. After the surgery, it took him 8 weeks to recover. The doctor followed his progress from time to time. Now she discovered that one legs is less than an inch inches longer than the other. The opinion given to me is, they'll insert a plate on both knee to make both knees from growing but my son is s all ready 5'11 and he will s 13 years old. It's hard to make a decision, What will I do?

Only on crepe bandage during day time, ice on every 3/4 hrs. One dr prescribed cast after swelling is reduced. Another dr said, we can have cast while it’s swollen. Hi Maria. That is a fair question. The reason for the cast above the knee to help control rotation at the site of the fracture. A below knee cast cannot control that. It is frustrating but necessary. Hope that answers your question. Good luck and thanks for watching.

You probably wont respond to this but when I was in seventh grade I I was on a field trip with my school and and I had twisted my ankle 10-15 times throughout the day. On the way back to the cars my ankle had started hurting severely. I didnt go to a doctors till a week later and I was told I had chipped the growth plate in my ankle . ive had severe pain ever since and I am now 21. My foot has been locked facing slightly outwards and I have been walking on the inside of my foot since this happened. Most nights after work and throughout the next morning it is unbearable to walk. I cant handle this pain anymore. Is there something you can suggest me to hopefully be able to at the very least fix my ankle to stop it from hurting. Ive tried taking over the counter pain killers ive tried taking prescription pain killers and nothing has worked. Ive been to the hospital 3 times over the years and all thats happened is they take a couple X-rays and send me on my way without really explaining anything on the X-rays. Again this pain is getting to the point where I cant work I cant have a social life and I cant enjoy the outdoors like i used too. If you ever see this and have at least somewhat of an answer I would appreciate it so much
@TalkingWithDocs

Hi LinkNeverDies !!! So our best advice would be to see a physiotherapist to get some strengthening exercises for your ankle. An MRI would be able to assess the soft tissues of your ankle. As well, talking to a therapist about a possible brace may help make your ankle more functional. Hope that helps. Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did.

What would happen if you had a cast and you fell again or accidentally put weight on it would that effect your growth
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 6 жыл бұрын
Hi UnevenTV. That is a difficult question. Typically if you fell the cast would protect you against the majority of the force and the areas above and below the cast would be more at risk of damage. Having said that, it is possible that the fracture could shift within the cast given enough force. If you weight bear on a cast that is designed to be non weight bearing it typically will break down the cast and possibly lead to altered alignment of the fracture. The way a fracture affects your growth depends on your age and the location of the fracture. Hope that helps

Hi Andrew. Yes that is possible. It depends on the severity of the injury and the location and your age. Hi my son plays peewee football and fractured his thumb it fractured the growth plate in his thumb. Will this cause him growth problems moving forward? We are very worried and concerned. On top of all of this he's out of football this season along with not having a thumb to use his controller for the game FortNite! He is not a happy camper right now..... The doctor didn't set it he just placed him in a cast. Is this normal?

Hi Love Leigh. Every case is different and certainly these are questions you should pose to your treating surgeon. In general, growth plate injuries in children do very well. There is a very small risk that the damage to the growth plate would cause it to stop growing. This can be followed on xray and rarely requires intervention. But yes, no football and no FortNite causes a much bigger risk to your familial happiness. Good luck.

Hi Alexandra. Sorry to hear about the broken toe. It is always difficult to answer a question like this without examining you and reviewing your films. It is however possible that if your bone growth was altered due to the fracture or if your fracture entered the joint that it could contribute to your pain. Any time you have an injury there is always the chance that some component of your injury would be irreversible. Hope that helps but yes discuss it with your doctor. Good luck.

Is it a REALLY high chance my growth plate is going to stop growing like the doctor said?
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 5 жыл бұрын
Hi AwesomeGurl C5. It really depends on the type and location of your fracture. Having said that, you will not know for sure until it starts to happen so you will be followed with regular xrays and if it does start to close usually the answer is to make sure the entire growth plate closes to prevent any type of angular deformity. The amount of shortening that would result depends on the bone involved and the age of the patient. Hope that answers your question. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Hi Kimberly. If you have ongoing pain related to a previous fracture it would be reasonable to see a surgeon who can perform a physical examination and review your xrays. If your concern is cosmetic, the majority of surgeons would say surgery is not indicated due to the inherent risks. If there was associated pain, there is the possibility of performing an osteotomy to correct the alignment. Hope that helps.

Hi Mustii38. Thanks for watching and for your question. So it is possible to find out if the growth plate was affected by taking an xray. And yes a growth plate injury can cause the bone to stop growing however it would not make you stop growing in a way that would affect your height. Theoretically that leg could be slightly shorter depending on the degree of growth plate arrest and how much you grew in general after the injury. Best to see a surgeon if you have questions and start with an xray. Hope that helps.
