If you are looking to take a trip back to the medieval ages you should definitely visit Gruyeres Switzerland. The houses, the restaurants and all the streets have retained their original character for more than 800 years, topped off with the Castle which sits at the top of the town.
Located at the base of the Swiss Prealps in the French-speaking canton of Fribourg, Gruyères has a lush vegetation going gently through rolling hills and it is famous for its cheese. We love the cheese fondue!
At the Castle of Gruyères, the Midsummer Day festival is full of surprises for all Middle Ages enthusiasts.
During our visut, the Castle celebrated St. John’s day and presented a medieval fair.
Potters, tailors, smiths, apothecaries and weavers are displayed there wares. Bakers and chefs spread the scents of their dishes. Acrobats and musicians spun in the crowd.
Enjoy the video and let us know where you're watching from!

I really enjoyed this adventure with you. I like how they have so many hands on activities like the quill writing of wishes, children's animal search and the bees wax candles. I appreciate all the facts you include in the video for your audience.

Thank you so much for another great video! Your videos were a huge help to us (me and 14 year old son) on our summer trip to Switzerland. We were in Gruyere on August 2, wish we had the festival at the time. For foreign travelers both the cheese factory and the chateau are free with Swiss Travel Pass.

Hey Kristina, I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Switzerland. The Swiss Travel Pass is amazing! You can visit so many places for free. We recently had these in Neuchatel.

I LOVE this video! I like whole, healthy foods, in which a block of cheese IS and this particular one has a geographical location! You ladies educated me. I didn't know this cheese that I only just discovered at 45 years old, was imported from Switzerland, made by cows that only eat ertain things during a certain season of the year. That's very interesting. It also explains why it's so expensive here in the U.S. Cheese from a block is good for you, if you're on a high protein diet also.

Glad you enjoyed the video. Gruyère still remains one of our favorite cheeses. It’s one of the things we missed dearly when traveling.

Cows need to be milked twice a day. During the summer, how do they get the milk from the mountain to the factory? I doubt that there are enough cows in Gruyeres to provide all the milk they need to make all that cheese.

Hey! I'm from Capitola-by-the-Sea (Santa Cruz, California). I hope you can visit the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland, home of the Anthroposophical Society (think Waldorf School Movement, Bio-Dynamic Agriculture, Organic Architecture, Weleda products, Eurythmy, Anthroposophical Medicine, the Camphill Movement, etc.). Thank you for your videos!

Wow! Thanks for sharing. I've never heard of it before. I'm familiar with some of their products such as the Weleda but I've never heard of Anthroposophical Medicine. I'll have to read more about it.
