Could not have replaced my clutch and brake levers without this video and like I told you 2 years ago your video's are an outstanding source of information for the motorcyclists. May you RIP

I busted off a clutch handle, trying to impress a Harley chick downtown last Summer. I learned the ugly, late night, semi-buzzed, post cab ride home-and-back with parts, upside-down lesson about clutch sensors. I punched a friend that night, before it was all done. But I rode home. Thanks for the confirmation. I pretty much knew they were mostly interchangeable, Some of the electrical hook ups changed, but nothing a little cutting and taping won't fix.

The belly pan is the OEM one. Closest aftermarket is Gimbel. Headlight cowling is Skidmarx, which is almost identical to the OEM. Seat/tail is by Gimbel. Thank you for noticing!

I own a 2004 GS500E model and I have been looking for a brake and clutch lever but it appears that LSL is my only option. They are quite expensive though.

funny seeing a tank protector being use, but the ratchet hits the fairing quite a few times. great video. thanks for the education.

Without knowing what you bought, I can't say. however, a correct lever is readily available and cheap. MotionPro has them for about $9. I just got one in for a friend and they are perfect. Getting the correct lever I feel is a better choice than trying to make something fit - considering the correct one is so cheap.

Cheers for that, Yeah been hanging around on there for a while.. 'twas where i saw the brake lever video link.

I just followed your video step by step and replaced my levers with my brand new LSL levers from Germany. Thanks mate!

It is a safety switch so you must pull in the clutch to require you to pull in the clutch lever to start the bike. The start button is wired through the clutch switch. That's all there is to it. The PO probably broke the switch when replacing the clutch lever. The only consequences are that you can start the bike in gear without pulling in the clutch lever - and that will make the bike lurch forward. Otherwise, it doesn't affect anything or running of the bike.

The blue clutch lever doesn't fit unless you change the perch. I don't recall doing anything with a blue one. I did have a blue brake lever in the other video, which is a direct replacement.
@Lajko112 жыл бұрын
@Darkzy43 No, you can't unless you change the perch and the cable. I had the 650 there for an example of another type of lever and point out the differences in the safety switch. If you have more questions, you can log onto gstwins dot com That is the best GS500 site. I hang out there all the time.

Yes they can. Also the lever may not pull in far enough to trip the switch. Possibly the switch was damaged by a previous owner. You can short the connections to the switch. If doing that makes the bike start every time, then you should investigate the switch. About $14 for a new one or someone on gstwins.com might have an extra for less.

Hey, all your videos are VERY helpfull! But I have a Gs500F and want to put a different clutch lever on mine, what did you do to your gs500f to make that blue clutch lever fit?
@BrandonUrbaniak3 жыл бұрын
I have a question. why couldn't you just grind/file the switch down to a length that will work with the older levers?

Absolutely beautiful bike. What kind of fairing/headlight/windscreen is that? How much did it run you?

Until you get one, short the wires together. That defeats the safety switch. Sometimes used. Sometimes you can buy a used perch that has a good switch for $10 or so. A new switch I believe is $14. Part #37560-31F00 SWITCH ASSY, CLUTCH $12.37. If you have the older type switch with the PC board, buy the newer switch and connect it with 2 spade connectors. Price is from powersportsplus dot com

My 1990 was stolen, and all kinds of beat down. Just got her back. Gauges, mirrors, ignition, tank locks and windshield all smashed to hell. I want to put the better, newer engine from my 2000 doner on her, and the front end from an '89, 'cuz I love those '89 bars. I have next to no mechanical experience. I'm watching lots of videos though. Is there anything inherently incompatible in this set up, as described?

My GS is a 1993 GS500E. When i bought it the switch had been disconnected and removed. It does not seem to affect my bike at all. Are there any long or short term issues that mat arise if I leave it this way?
@dumptrump37885 жыл бұрын
The clutch sensor merely disables the starter button if the clutch lever isn't pulled in. This prevents the bike shooting forward if you're in gear & the clutch engaged. If you wire the switch out you can still start your bike but you need to make sure you're actually in Neutral. In fact never rely on the Neutral light anyway, always rock your bike back & forth to make sure you're in Neutral, the light may be on but it COULD be a broken switch.
@Lajko111 жыл бұрын
Nothing. Just watch out for cable routing so things do not get caught in the steering stops. 89-2000 is basically the same bike. Clutch switch changed around 96 but you can use newer switch as mentioned, if lever has deep slot. 98% of 89-00 is all interchangeable. Go to gstwins.com if you encounter specific issues. Lots of people to help there.

Hello congratulations for videos, have a GS500E, 2009, would the wiring diagram, it appears that is in the workshop wall, installed a beeper arrows, a secret key of security and a gear indicator. already traced the wires but I will install an automatic garage opener on high beam. You would have to send me by email, please, thank you. Mogi das Cruzes, SP, Brazil. Hugs.
