It holds a full on Trangia 25 kit with all cooking tools and a few fuel bottles in the side pouches. A great grab and go picnic setup or cookset for overland car camping or travel.

I’m in the US. I don’t carry a firearm because they are bloody heavy. But it’s nice to have that option.

Hi! Bex, Did you miss me? 'With every bullet so far', says you. 😂 I would agree with you on the instant coffee, most of it is just warm and wet. Sainsburys do packs of coffee in a filter, ten to a box for around £3.00. They come in a foil bag, tear open the foil to reveal a filter bag. Tear off the cardboard strip and hook the cardboard ends over the edge of your cup. Then pour your hot water through the filter coffee inside. It is quite nice coffee and because it is a pour through filter there is no bitter taste to the coffee. They pack flat too. Surprised how much you got into that little bag. The camping shops seem to charge around £4 or £5 for the dehydrated meals which is a bit of a rip off so I must keep a look out for those ration packs. I received my new passport and my ears have put in an appearance again. They came out of hiding after Brexit. My previous photo looked like Wilson in that Tom Hanks film. 😂 Take care of yourself. God bless. Steven.

I still buy issue ration packs but the best ones are the pre Afghanistan stuff, boil in the bags etc . The newer rations with sweet drinks, peanut butter and sandwiches are very sickly sweet.

luckily I have a very sweet tooth (before I had 4 my sweet teeth removed last year....Lol) The chocolate pudding I have used as lunch all by its self, very high in calories. I now make my own air tight rations, and often used tinned meals that I dehydrate to save space and especially weight. Will look out for pre afghan ORPS now, bit before my time tho.....lol

i tried carrying all my food in a dpm resi bag for awhile but found it a bit cumbersome, so currently i use a plce bergen side pouch, as a designated rations bag, found i can get a weeks worth of food in one, (at a push). ... btw i watched a video you did on the JNA/Yugo mess kit many years ago and because of you i bought one, loved it ... now i have 3 of them, lol

I have my ORPS in a rocket pocket/pouch too, only on my bug out bag which is in a permanent ready to go state. I calculate mine to eight days, eating just two wets per day, and porridge for brekki, I actually eat very little despite my sometimes swollen belly....lol (despite giving up alcohol and sugar some time ago now) The JNA are great on hot coals, hence all the blackening on mine, which I cant be bothered to get off, gives it character..... Is it just me, or do you ever recall Bergen side pouches, being nick named "rocket pockets" I hear most people refer to them as side pouches these days. The DPM resi bag is awesome to sew on to the front of a Bergen, to stow something light, such as water proofs as an example, as I know you like to tailor your own kit. I have just started tailoring my bergen, using the (speedy stitch) a awl designed for sailing canvas & leather work..... Will try the free floating lid option too. thanx for watching bex

Paul Kirtley did a vid on how he gets a week's worth of food into a side pouch... 'proper' food too, not the heat and eat. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l32kmWptmtmpZ5Y

bex bugoutsurvivor ... yup side pouches, were commonly called rocket pouches but it seems to be dying out now apart from old squaddies. Maybe sellers on eBay stopped to be politically correct. I’ve just started taking a Bergen apart to modify it, (my third and probably last). I have two lids for the JNA mess kits, one homemade the other I bought on eBay, I’ve used one dozens of times in the camp fire and it’s black, i scrubbed it last week and was surprised to see the green paint was still there.

@@neil_castell Hi 👋🏻 They were called Rocket pouches because they looked like two rocket s on your back when you used the yoke. Something like James Bonds portable system in one of the Bond films. There was also a cartoon years ago and the boy had a rocket pack on his back. I’m sure it was these hat gave it the name. 🏴👍

Still laughing about shooting people we don't like...brilliant. Great thought provoking video Bex. Love the ration pouch idea. Remember from my time in the forces getting hold of a sas escape ration pouch 58 pattern. Could hold the smaller mess kit. Think it was the basis of Lofty wise man's sas survival guide survival pouch in the kit section. Held a fair amount of rations too, but ours were more dehydrated and small tins. Be interesting to see how they'd fair with a modern Rat pack. Anyway mate fantastic video as always. Stay safe ATB Rob 😊👍

Hi bex. What litre your bergan.. Am looking at getting a new one mate.. To put, me bushcraft stuff in.
@bexbugoutsurvivor4 жыл бұрын
Its the Longback infantry bergen. Main body 90 litres, and 2 15 litre side rocket pockets, brings it up to 120 litres. How ever my MTP Shortback seems to carry everything I have in the Longback and more, even with out the rocket packs. I know a guy who is 6' 4" and he uses a shortback. I struggle with my longback, its painfull to carry compared to the shortback, despite me having a 19.5 inch spine, making me a large back..... Look out for more bergen videos coming up over the next few weeks, it may give you more insight

Another great video. With the boil in the bag meals do you use the boiled water afterwards to make brew ? Or is the water tainted ? All the best, keep the videos coming 👍
@bexbugoutsurvivor4 жыл бұрын
Often the water is used for a brew afterwards. Sometimes the water is poured back into my bottle, if If don't want a drink. On a cold night the hot water in the bottle goes down the bottom of my sleeping bag/quilt, and acts as a foot warmer. The water never seems tainted to me, I will keep the videos coming so long as people still want to watch, we have this year filmed and in the can, and am working on 2021 films right now, and is looking good.....thanks for watching take care bud...bex

If available in the UK, try Folger's Coffee Singles (like individual Tea bags but COFFEE). Very available here in the States. That's what I carry in my "emergency" bag, and for recreational camping. Tastes like real percolated coffee !
