Until you mentioned it, I didn't know they made a cockpit extension for the APEX. That settles it. I'm getting an APEX. Love that I can "upgrade" to a full cockpit later, and start with a smaller investment. The best of both worlds, really. Thanks man!

Just ordered one of these to go alongside my Fanatec CSL DD to get it off my desk and mount my pedals properly. I like that it is foldable as well so I can easily move it away when I'm done driving, as I am one of those people who do live in a flat but want to sim race! Thanks for the detailed review!

I was looking at this stand but opted for the Next Level one instead. It's a beast of a wheel stand. Only reason was the next level stand has Flight Sim parts you can buy for it and looks better build quality, No thin strips of metal holding the pedal base down. Great review as always

I find your comment really interesting since I was considering buying the apex for flight simming (honeycomb yoke, saitek throttle/pedals). What was it about the next level stand that really benefits flight sim peripherals? Pre-drilled holes? Also, how’s it held up, you’re happy with it and don’t regret going with it over the apex?

Real useful review. I’m considering getting a wheel and pedals to use with the VR version of GT7, and this looks like a good platform to use with an entry level wheel. I like the idea of being able to turn it into a full cockpit at a later date, if I’m still enjoying sim racing. This is a great channel; I’ve watched a few of your other videos. Hi Karl! I've got this few months back in sale 100 euro. I waited 6 months for the csl dd to come back in stock and nw I have finally both of them. Perfect combination. The wheel base is tiny and it doesn't add to the depth of the wheel stand when closed, and despite it's not easy to move because all in it its more than 20kg, this gives the stand a lot of sturdiness.

@karl Gosling Hi KG, nice review I found your channel while back earlier in the year as I was looking for sim setups for long time starting with small budget and your Logitech review helped loads. I'm new to Sim had about 5months + now and I went with the g920 setup on Xbox with the classic GT omega stand. I chose the classic as I like the v1 shifter position that was seperate to the steering column position. All in all found it works very well pretty much as you've explained in the apex only issues are when I first had shifter RHD felt it kept getting loose very quickly I was driving the sim more but ifelt it get loose very quickly does need screwing in abit more regular whilst I've had it LHD it's been abit more solid. The chair issue has been major disadvantage I've got the stand on laminate flooring but on a racing mat , and just a normal table chair however always sliding backwards n having down straights to adjust the chair and move I've purchased the extendable frame to make a rig and got a OMP FIA race seat which I will bolt on to the frame when comes so that should help sturdiness alot more and not have worry sweet spot all time which is main issue . Other point is the rig/frame means can only use the V2 shifter mount as in apex so from u feedback looks fine but. Again nice review. And is there any video on your main setup you got next to your review one I'm looking to slowly upgrades parts at a time mainly pedals and shifter but you look like got great setup any videos u have on your setup or if not to make one be great. Yeah the classic is where I started after being desk mounted, works fine. The chair issue is a pain but just the way it is with wheel stands. Rear frame should really sort things out, good move! :) V2 mount is 100% fine to use mate. Not yet but there will be :) Happy to help mate :)

Thanks so much for all your reviews big man. Haven’t played a racing game since Mariokart. Not a fan of circuit racing, like you. Then tripped over DR2 when Sony gave it away back in March, and I’m hooked. Not made the purchase of a wheel yet. Bit paranoid the PS5 may not support the Thrustmaster T300 RS GT I’ve set my sights on so holding off. Thoughts on that? Wife’s adamant I’m not having a cockpit in the flat. So this may be my only option. Or I could trade the Missis in.....

Great review, well articulated and composed video. I think the wobble is completely from your thick carpet, ive seen reviews with this stand on solid ground and that way its much more stable. Also i personally use office chair with wheels and it doesnt swivel at all while racing. I was on the fence with next level racing wheel stand dd (370€) and gt omega apex (180€) but i find for my current t150 and clubsport v2.5 in the future, gt omega apex to be enough, for nlr dd, local 370€ price is too much imo.

Ordered GT Omega Apex wheel stand, very useful review, everything i really needed to see except maybe should have put your strongest wheel to see how much force it needs to start actually flexing and impacting gameplay (put the stand through its paces alongside its actual target, the general weaker wheelbases like G29, T300,...), but for G29 and up to 8nm in general seems to be doing great on its own (without the reinforced upgrade kit to the full cockpit). Some youtuber put DD1 on it and for the giggles put full 20NM of force, and boy it does flex and squeak but it still survived but after 8NM (he tested 4-8-12-16-20) it does start to affect somewhat input the higher the worse it gets.... Which means it can endure even the full DD pro which is great. Cheers for the discount code! black friday discount + code, nifty 25 euros off the price. 105e don't think there's a better and more robust wheelstand at the time haha.

Got the Apex and have an SHH shifter on the way. I wonder how I'd mount the cheap 14bit usb handbrake that was reviewed here onto the mount as well. The hope would be rally side by side vertically but I can't see how I will get that brake on that smaller shifter plate.

Great video. I recently bought a used Next level Racing GT Ultimate V2 seat and the Monitor stand that is designed to bolt up to the NLR Wheel Stand. Do you know if this one would work in between my NLR Seat and Monitor stand? The NLR Wheel stand is nearly x2 the cost of this one. I would rather save the cash and use this if it will work.

Hey Karl, new sub here after watching your awesome vids! After going back and forth between the Art rig seated cockpit and this Apex stand I chose the Apex stand.The reason is I had to come up with a solution to race in three different rooms. I'll need a caster wheel solution for the Apex stand to wheel it to different rooms. Would be better than lugging it around. My game room has a large standup MAME arcade type cabinet so the screen is pretty high off the ground. I felt I'd be looking up too high and too far at the arcade screen from a seated cockpit position in the Art rig. I don't believe I could have brought the whole rig up high enough or close enough for an arcade machine height - for it to be comfortable or convenient. I can imagine the neck and eye strain pains now looking up and far from a Art rig position. Also for that arcade machine I think a standing up solution is more nostalgic so I can just raise the stand to arcade height. I'll be trying to configure retro racers soon on it. Hey maybe that's a suggestion for your retro channel??? Would love to see that! The 2nd room is a living room with a leather sectional with electric seats. I can sit in one of those leather seats about 10 feet away with the stand lowered this time and play Xbox-x centered on an a big screen TV. So again no need for the seated Art rig. The 3rd place is an office room where I have a wrap around desk and a big screen TV mounted to the wall behind desk.. Have my PC in there with PC racers. Again it would be too low with the Art rig but this stand would also solve this problem, raise the stand medium height and it clears the desk. I can sit in a gaming chair with the wheels locked. In conclusion I think the stand serves a lot of scenarios that wouldn't work with a seated cockpit and might not be as niche as one would think. Looking forward to more vids on both your channels!

I'm using the Apex with Fanatec CSW V 2.5 and V3 pedals + performance kit (hard green/green). No complains whatsoever. With the whole thing assembled including pedals, wheelbase with USB hub and power supply it's heavy as hell. My pedals are mounted as far to the end as possible on the plate. Pulling on the wheel with feet resting on the plate does nothing.

The CSL DD will work with the Apex but you may have a slightly better experience using the NLR DD as it is a bit more solid mate. I've not tried it as I don't have either wheel stand any more.

The feet on my Apex wheel stand are different than your sample. They are a lot flatter, like steel pancakes. They're less likely to dig into carpets I would imagine.

Have you tried your Fanatec pedals on any of these 'cheap' seats/stands you've reviewed or are they just not suitable due to the force required on the brake pedal?

I haven't mate, but only because my main rig is all fitted really neatly and it's not easy to remove anything. But the G920 Brake pedal is almost as hard to press (at 100%) as my V3's! lol So I'd say they would be fine (bar the Playseat Challenge lifting issue or wheel stand chair leaning back) clutch and accelerator pedals are far softer anyway.

Hmm... I have an order (hopefully) about to be sent on its way from Fanatec; CSL Elite to upgrade my faithful G27 setup currently attached to a small dedicated table thingy used in conjunction with the sofa. I was thinking about getting a GT Lite to use with it and stash away when not used, but the sofa does a pretty good job as far as seating position goes, and now I'm thinking the GT Omega might actually be a good bet. The platform for the H-shifter is a must. Out of curiosity, how do you find the position of the shifter table?

@@KarlGosling Thanks for the info. Since I'm currently using the g27 shifter table-mounted next to the wheel, I'm sure it would be an improvement. Sadly, I just noticed in the specs the minimum height of the stand is 80 cm, which is nearly 20 cm taller than the table I'm using. Using the sofa, the wheel would be face height. Looks like I'm going to have to keep looking, which is a shame, as this is an otherwise really decent looking bit of kit. Perhaps the Next Level Racing wheel stand... Actually, scratch that. Now I'm thinking Trakracer FS3. Not as convenient to fold away, but looks to check every other box.

I have been scouring the internet trying to find video showing how you secure the wheel base to the rig's mounting plate and I thought this video was the one....but then I saw that you skipped over that part during your review, haaha. Does the G29 secure to the plate using just the two side plastic clamps? I reached out to GT Omega and they said, "The mounting plate for the Titan Cockpit is the same as the Apex Wheel Stand." So my question is, how do I secure it to the mounting plate - with just the two plastic side clamps? I also tried to find an unboxing video for a G29 and I couldn't find any that included bolts or anything I would secure the wheel to.the plate outside of the two clamps. I hope this makes sense and thank you in advance for your help. I thought I'd try and reach out to you and see if you had any guidance! Thanks mate! Keep up your channel's good work!

The G29 has two bolt holes in the bottom, I think the Titan may have come with some for this purpose... if not then any two M6 x16mm bolts will do.

My last question is - and forgive me if this seems elementary - the bolt pattern for the G29 should match the plate on the Titan if it's got the same plate as the Apex Wheel stand in this video then correct? (Like I said above, GT Omega claims they are the same plate). My G29 arrives Friday, so I can run to a hardware store in the mean time and get some M6 X 16MM bolts. I just wanted to make sure....the damn holes match up between the G29 and the Titan Cockpit plate. Thanks ever so much for your fast reply. Help!!! - I've literally just ordered this for use with both my Thrustmaster TMX Wheel/Pedals and also with my Saitek/Logitec Yoke along with my Thrustmaster Rudder Pedals - I've looked for screws in the boxes of both my TMX Wheel and Saitek/Logitec Yoke to mount them to the Wheel Plate and also my Pedals to the Pedal Plate and none came with any them, so I assume such screws come with the APEX Steering Wheel Stand, yes? I'm expecting the Wheel Stand to arrive in a couple of days and as I see it I will only be able to mount my TMX Wheel and my Yoke to the Wheel Stand by using the "desk clamps" that came with them and my pedals will just have to "sit" on the Pedal Plate of the Stand unless it comes with some type of mounting screws?

Have you tried it with belt or dd wheels? If so, how did they perform? You also put it against some furniture. Would it move if free standing?

It's not for DD use, although the CSL DD would be fine as thats no more powerful than belt driven bases. No it doesn't move, it wasn't pressing against my furniture.

Does the plate have pre-drilled holes for hardmounting CSL DD? If not, what wheel stand does?

The CSL DD has adjustable bolt positions using t nuts in rails so can fit pretty much anything.

@@_1ShadeofGray_ Setting it in place takes longer than clamping the wheel to my desk, and if I need to adjust how far I am from the stand, that is a lot of trial and error. But the setup is a lot closer to driving a car. The shifter is where I want it to be. The pedals are always in the same place, and the wheel seems to be stronger because its hard mounted and doesn't have any give. I should have got a wheel stand a long time ago.
