It's a shame things don't work out with Dimitri, he's an interesting character and had some interesting discussion with Niko. Wish they would have kept him an ally and he decides that Faustin is a rabid dog that needs putting down, and employs Niko to help him.

Dimitri is probably the kind of guy that probably screws everyone over all the time. I mean look what happens at the end game when he's friends with pegorino in the mission that you're after Dimitri. I think the only reason that he stuck around with Mikhail was because he made money and also too dangerous to just take out unless he was given good reason. Which we see he does after getting Niko to do some shit to another group that really pisses them off and could start a war. So because Nika was just another hired hun that nobody knows, he leaves him out to dry after having him kill faustin. And throughout the game continues to fuck with people no matter what just to get ahead or just to survive. He's a parasite and never would have been trusted as an ally but is a great bad guy.
