Years and years ago, my car went missing from my apartment's parking lot. When I called the police, they were able to look up that it had been towed right away (the property manager refused to give me a parking sticker until we renewed our lease). I'm surprised DPD wasn't clued into all the "TOWING ENFORCED 24/7" signs everywhere, and in Deep Ellum no less, and put 2 and 2 together without resorting to OnStar.
@49525Bob2 жыл бұрын
Way back in the 70's I worked for a city PD. When a vehicle was towed from private property, the tow company simply called to have it put on the towed away list. When the dummies called to report their car as stolen, we were able to send them to the tow company lot. No officer needed to waste time going to the scene. Although occasionally they did have to go to the lot to arrest the car owners who caused trouble at the tow lot.
@JuiceJive2 жыл бұрын
@KSG unlike the streets of Deep Ellum, the back row at my old apartment complex was not a high traffic area, and cars rarely got towed. I was taking my chances, but it wasn't the first time. Also, where else would I have parked it?
@LadyViolet12 жыл бұрын
@KSG Parking where you live in between getting a lease renewal/moving is different than parking in front of some random business. Usually leases have a stipulation for how long you have to move out (mine does at least), but that doesn't always include the rights to parking. Most managers aren't dicks who want to point the middle finger at renters moving, so this usually isn't an issue and they're cool with you still parking there; especially since it would only really be needed for a new resident moving in. I don't know their situation, but it sounds like the manager/owner was just being mean spirited.
@retrictumrectus10102 жыл бұрын
@KSG The property owners should have at least some grace period. They think too rigidly. But maybe they had, but their patience ran out. It does not matter if they did not do wrong in this scenario, but it shows how greedy and power-tripping they are, assuming that they have no grace at all. But I support what they did if their tenants abused the parking space.

The typical life cycle of a Cadillac Escalade: 1. First "owner" leases it for 5 years with a 7000 (total) mileage allowance because that's the only way they can (kinda) make the payments. 2. Second owner buys it at auction for 20% of the original MSRP and drives it until a combination of GM quality and lack of maintenance (oil was changed once just before turn-in) start to take their toll. 3. Third owner buys it at a buy-here-pay-here used car lot, "rents to own" a set of 24" wheels and drives it until it's stolen and set on fire an abandoned lot.

How many officers does it take to read a sign? Well who knows, those signs are unread till this day. Crack detective work guys, turned a 30 second job into a full on 'investigation'.
@azurblueknights5 жыл бұрын
@Jack Stucki I mean, common sense says that the first thing the officers would have asked is if the couple had read the no towing signs. But then again, they were also only operating off of whatever information the couple had provided, so they still had to treat it as though the vehicle had been stolen. And if it had been a slow night so far (which is likely, as the bars don't close until the wee hours of the morning anyway), the officers were probably looking for *anything* to do that wasn't patrolling the same path they'd likely been on all night up to that point.
@hamsterama5 жыл бұрын
@Jack Stucki Also, could be that this lovely couple never told the officer that they were illegally parked. Without any additional info to the contrary, it could be that the officers just assumed that the lovely couple were authorized to park there.

It blows my mind when people use the “well other cars were parked there” excuse because they don’t know if the other cars are customers/employees or not. Just because other people are parked somewhere it does not mean it’s okay for you to do the same especially when the signs clearly state that parking is for *customers/employees ONLY* & you sir are neither a customer nor employee therefore you don’t have the right to park there, doesn’t matter if there’s other cars or not, just worry about yourself & pay attention to signs! Living in Philly I’ve learned very quickly that signs mean everything because there’s literally a sign every few feet giving you all sorts of directions on when, where & how long you’re allowed to park somewhere. Other cars being parked somewhere doesn’t mean shit, those other cars are either parked legally because they were authorized to park there or they’re gonna get towed because they parked illegally/didn’t have authorization. Blows my mind how people have that group mentality of “other people are doing it so why can’t I”... if other people are jumping off a bridge into a river where there’s tons of jagged sharp rocks are you gonna jump too? No? THEN DONT PARK YOUR CAR INA PLACE JUST BECAUSE OTHERS ARE PARKED THERE! It’s the same idea. Edit: Btw I’m sorry for the long ass comment but this kinda stuff really pissed me off because every single time I’m in the city everybody & their mom just parks where ever & however they want & the same thing goes for just driving around the city in general, people just do whatever they want, drive on wrong side of the road, use middle lane to speed around people, make left hand turns from the right hand turning lane, etc, etc. I could literally go on for days.
