Brings back fond memories of the Super Racing Weekends on Eurosport, with the FIA GT and ETCC, back in the early 2000s. I remember the Magny-Cours race where Julian Bailey and Jamie Cambell-Walter won the GT championship in the Lister Storm. While at Enna I remember guys like Fabrizio Giovanardi winning in the Alfa 156s. Fantastic!

Man this track is SO fun! I'm surprised it's not implemented in other sims. Fucking hell, there's just something about GTR2 that nails it.

We where a few brave driving the Lister Storm compared to the ones in the Ferrari's. I only drove the Lister and seldom had a fair chance against the Ferrari's and the other cars in the GT1 class. But when you finally got those podium finishes, you screamed of joy 🏁😁 (Leadhead was the nickname I used in GTR2)

Why can't the other studios create AI like this?
@6665hitm4k3r7 жыл бұрын
Technicaly speaking it's the same AI as in any other isiMotor game with small tweaks here and there, so it's basicly the same as in rF, AMS or in GTR Evo/Race series. As much as I like GTR2, the AI part makes it quite frustrating at times. Stuff like those fantasy times that they run in qualy, being faster in the wet than in the dry just to bunch up in first lap and crash into each other with zero spatial awareness or even just to t-bone me at every possible occasion makes me pretty much stop every try to run a offline season with this sim. Surpisingly in Jimmy's video the AI survived the chicanes somehow. When I tried that combo during my last offline season at Enna, cars were flying through the air. Anyway, I am glad that developers are past this level of AI coding today.
@theeeMitchi7 жыл бұрын
Funny how back then we all cried about how bad the AI was in isiMotor titles and now we watch videos of it and wish we had AI like this, not like in Assetto Corsa for example ... :)
@6665hitm4k3r7 жыл бұрын
Well, I mainly play rF2 so I am quite spoiled when it comes to offline racing. ISI did a pretty decent job in that area to say the least and improved it alot from rF1. I heard NR2003 had pretty good AI too, but I never played it. GPL seemed pretty good aswell from the few times I drove it, so maybe good AI is/was a Papyrus thingy. That said, those Papyrus titles were extremely specialiced to one kind of racing so it was propably a tad easier to implement them compared to the sims of today with all their different kinds of racing and rules. AC AI is still pretty bad, bud they have improved it alot from what it was at the beginning. AI coding isn't easy, so I still tip my had to Kunos for trying to implement it from scratch. Good thing is that most sims are evolving, so there is chance for improvement for all of them.

Why do you want Ai that crashes all the time its completely unrealistic?
@felipetartas54347 жыл бұрын
There is a simple answer. Because that AI is not exactly a AI. The AI is not driving the car with the same phisics applied for you, and can brake, acelerated or move faster to avoid contact. On Assetto Corsa, otherwise, the AI have to be 10 times smarter because there are not any ways to avoid a contact if the AI cant calculate your moves like a real person can do in real life. In real life you can predict when someone is slower, or are changing the line for defense, the AI on a simulator cant predict this. Also, look to the first lap, he can overtake half of the grid. This is because the behaviour of AI is different on first lap, just to avoid contact. But make pole position senseless. If you can start on sixth position on GTR2 it is just the same of the pole. The AI on GTR2 also can run faster than 100%, and why? because the phisics are not the same. The devs did a good job to hide these things on GTR2, but if you can play Nascar Sim Racing, a sim by EA, you can see the strange behaviour. The AI slowing down 50, 100 meters before the corners and being stupudily fast on straights to compensate. The AI on GTR2 are doing this all the time, but on a hide way, and the players cant perceive.

The Lister Storm is unlike any other car of its era. You had to drive it on the limit all the time as that is how it was designed. I can tell you this - after I figured out how to use the engine specs from the Maserati MC12 in this car with the rpm limit set to 8000 RPM so it would live, this thing is like a rocket on wheels. This game is still a good sim.

GTR2 brings back the memories, Jimmy that was the first ever combo I drove in the game, always had a bit of a soft spot for the old Lister. GTR2 got so much right, but instead of taking it further, or others doing so, seems arcade and pursuit of money for many years , sim racing became a small niche, rather than encouraging young potential to learn, the industry decided lets make it easier, less challenging, more ego :(.
@Glimiril7 жыл бұрын
I don't have my copy of GTR2 any more, I fell on hard times and became homeless for quite a while, yet it was my first ever experience of online racing, I got to the best and the worst, to my surprise I came 3rd in my first ever race, then I was running second after climbing the field, only for a deliberate act by 3 cars to go nose to tail horizontal across a straight on a blind corner, I didn't online drive again till 2014 :(.

Who's watching this, seven years on? Ah, the memories... Incidentally, I still have GTR2 - disc copy, if you don't mind. If I get round to getting a brand new laptop, I'm going to retire my existing lappie and put this sim on while it still has internet capability. Not just for the GT goodness, but also for the various SuperTourer mods, assuming they still exist.

The game is more fun with the stock physics.
@theeeMitchi7 жыл бұрын
It is - something that's more worth testing is the GTR2 Essentials mod. Though it really has to be said, GTR2 is pretty much best if it's just left in stock form.
@miy1925hassun7 жыл бұрын
+scotty Reborn is more accurate though. thee Mitchi Why leave it vanilla when you can make the physics and the AI better ? I'm not saying you or anyone else should only play Reborn or NAP or anything like that but why leave it as it is when you can make it better ? Especially when you can have more than one installs and one can be vanilla.
@SatelliteRacing7 жыл бұрын
I have my stock install still and made 1 for Reborn I just haven't had time to run it yet. Was just curious if Jimmy had since his video is where I heard about it.

Just reinstalled it too. Was a bit of an experiment, as I previously had problems with patching it. The vanilla steam version hides some of my favorite (RL) cars because the licences ran out and when I tried to use a "no cd patch" as someone told me, I lost the driving school, which I wanted to play the most, as it is excellent. And this time around I found a great working cumulative patch and have the cars and the driving school. The graphics, as outdated as they are, don't matter so much ingame, when I'm highly concentrated anyway (I even love to drive Grand Prix Legends from time to time)

Could you perhaps let me know what cumulative patch you found?

The lack of gt1 that modern sims have is what keeps me running back to gtr2.
@NickG407 жыл бұрын
To me, those are GT2 cars. Proper GT1 cars are like the McLaren F1 and the Lister Storm, not the prototypes of later years.
@Tallyock7 жыл бұрын
(your reply confuses me....) It seems like GT1 and GT2 are classes that nobody really cares about when it comes to modern sims. I seem to be one of a very small group of people that would like to see more of it around, but yes, the McLaren and Lister are sweet cars.
@NickG407 жыл бұрын
When the ACO restructured their classifications for 1999, GT1 became LMGTP, (since they were all prototypes anyway) the class formerly know as GT2 became GTS. In the FIA GT series, the classes GT1 and GT2 remained, but what was the GT2 class became GT1, and GT cars (formerly GT3) became GT2. In 2005, the ACO renamed GTS and GT to GT1 and GT2 respectively. This is where people get confused on the classes of GT cars during the last decade. So for example, the Nissan GT-R was never technically a proper GT1 car since it competed under modernized GT2 regulations from the 90's. So by technical definition, the original GT1 died in 1998 when it became LMGTP, old GT2 (which later renamed GT1) died in 2012 when the FIA dropped them. The class once known as GT3, later became GT2, now GTE, is running on modern technical regulations from the 90's.

Way too soft front , with too much prebound . you keep bounching frontwheels allthe way to 200kmh before downforce calms it down. Thats why you understeer so much. causes drag aswell. I allways found that having stiffer front workd better for me. was tough before tire temp, or wet, but over all got better tire life and faster avarage times over stints. I used to drive seasons with 4 hour races back in the day the game was new. Lister and Porche tbo is hardest cars to tune, but fun and rewarding when you find the sweetspot. Vipers and Ferraris are just too easy against ai.
