Turn into the Houmet lane by the triangle With the post box , about 50 yards up on the left there's a red brick house, that's where Ollie Read used to live.👍

I lived in Guernsey and worked at the hospital about 18 years ago. The drive from town towards the hospital was a well walked road for me. Thanks for the video, it brought back so many lovely memories. I love Guernsey.

Another great video. Peter Sellers also stay on Guernsey during the making of the film 'The Blockhouse' in 1977. He was staying at St Pierre in Fort George.

It's a decent vet. They kept my friends kamikaze cat alive. He had a habit of diving in front of cars. Lots of pins in his joints but he's still alive and well.

Hoping the Weather cooperates on Oct. 1st. Regal Princess had to cancel the stop on Sept. 18th due to bad weather (unable to tender passengers due to rough seas). Our friends from Florida are onboard at this time and told us. It is what it is ! You can't fight mother nature. Hoping for the best.

I was in that Iceland store when I was on Guernsey in June looking for a public bathroom. They sent me to the nearby doctor's office. WOW! BTW there's a geocache in the telephone booth you drove by.

All French teachers in France know Guernsey because of Victor Hugo. Last time I went up on the island was in 2006. It was with my Best and oldest friend from hometown St.Brieuc ( Brittany) and for this nearly unique time the blue island Trislander took off from St Brieuc Armor and went via Jersey. Then we landed in Guernsey. We hired a fiesta automatic (!), model 4 doors, 2005, and I drove all around the Island. My friend Who already knew Jersey (!), told me , " what a natural, maritime island",.so close to Brittany !

I seem to recall hearing that Oliver Reed liked to drink (and possibly dine) in The Absolute End on St George's Esplanade - this would have been in the 1970s-80s. (I think it's now a guest house.)

Strange, last night I thought I would search " Oliver reed", and found a link to Guernsey, and that would have been about two hours before a guernsey sunrise ( I am in the US)..About the same time as your drive. About 3 years ago, I " heard" Vera Lynn" in my head, singing, We'll Meet Again...so, I tubed that song...The next day I read she died at 10 pm London time, almost the same time I heard" the song...but, this is fairly normal for me. The " witch" burned in Guernsey, that gave birth during that tragedy( villagers threw the baby back into the fire) seems to be a relation, as is Mary Clarkson in Essex. Funny note: The Master Witch Hunter of Essex, Hopkins, commissioned Essex police to search for her. This is the letter the constable wrote back to Hopkins.. Dear Sir ( or similar) I have searched all Essex looking for the witch, Mary Clarkson, but she has apparently left the country. I have asked all relatives and friends, but some say they saw her off at Portsmouth for America. Most respectfully Constable Thomas CLARKSON

I knew Oliver well , he used to come over to Herm many times often helped him back with his mates to a boat 🍺🍺🤣, then in the early 80s used to meet him at his residence the Duke of Normandy for a drink or 2 , he holidayed in the mid 70s before moving to Guernsey , his best mate was a Guernsey man called Len ; drank in the Jamacia inn sorry for the miss spelling , they drank and did arm wrestling all the time 🤣.

By the way, as an amateur astronomer, please can you tell me if on clear nights you can see faint stars and the Milky Way ? I,ve just bought in Lorient ( south Brittany), binoculars 15x70 mm. What images it offers on clear nights ! Price around 120 €.

I think Oliver Reed used to drink at The Jamaica too ?? My hubby used to work at The Victor Hugo restaurant ( st pierre park in the 80's), and Mr Reed came in to dine one evening. Another diner was looking over at him and so he started having a rant ( you know the type.....who the hell you looking at !), and wanting fisticuffs outside 😅 He certainly was a character. Omg....No more Bella Luce....but it was lovely , why on earth demolish it. What a shame . 😢

A serious question. As an English man born and bred... if I moved to the Channel Islands would I be classed as a foreigner or is there no real difference legally.
@Guernsey576

Lots of people here were born on the mainland. It's all the British Isles so culturally no big differences.
