About the historical documents: a lot of the times museums "sell" their pieces to people as a way of funding. Usually then in the contract it would say that it now belongs to so-and-so, but it would stay displayed in said museum. So they get funding, rich people get tax write-offs, everybody wins 🤔

@@recoil53 not quite. It guaranteed the rights of “all free men”. So while that didn’t include enslaved people and women, it did include poor men. About how museums make money (I mainly speak for the western world or more specifically, Sweden): it depends a little bit on the country, but many countries museums are financed by the government since it is important to educate the population and let them take part of their cultural heritage. If you go to Berlin you will find that museums concerning the holocaust will be free because it is so important that people understand what happen and why. In Sweden, not every museum is free, but many are or are quite cheap and are still at least partially financed by governmental funds. I wouldn't be suprised if museums in countries with more unstable governments or a different philosophy for government would earn much money back through ticket sales etc, but I can't speak of that with certainty.
@olivialarsson86603 жыл бұрын
@@kitcolorshow3583 i could see that, since the US, at least seems so me, do not want a lot of governmental interference! I don't think I have seen any museum here in Sweden for more than around 10$. But there was an initiative a couple of years ago that the museums owned by the state should be free since it is an important part of the citizen's democratic rights to have access to Sweden's culture.
@michelericca67283 жыл бұрын
In the USA, most Museums charge, but most local public libraries have passes for either free or discounted admission. A lot of museums do get government funding (either local or state) and loan items to each other for free. Boston's Museum of Fine Arts does not receive government funding, so to earn money they do charge to loan items to other Museums.

Quick fun facts about the magna carta because im a history nerd: -it was nicknamed the great charter -it was basically created by the barons so the king’s couldn’t just do whatever the fuck they wanted -as well as the king isn’t above the law it also stated that the king couldn’t tax without reason which was a huge thing for the peasants as before that the king would tax whatever he wanted without reason. -although it did make the king accountable to the law it didn’t create much of an improvement for the lives of the ‘serfs’ who were at the bottom of the social hierarchy - it was created in england in 1215 mainly bcs King John was a massive dick to everyone - i have no idea where the actual document is now but I do know that part of it is at parliament house in Australia uh yeah
@tvishapradhan16493 жыл бұрын

I work at a place that sells consoles, and a big chunk of my job is explaining console models to people. Even though Playstation is easier with PS, PS2, PS3 (Slim), PS4 (Slim, Pro), PS5 (Digital, Disc) - people will still get it mixed up constantly. This is especially common with the storage size (eg. PS4 and PS4 Slim come with 500gb and 1tb options, while PS4 Pro is only 1tb), since people aren't sure what they want/have or how it makes a difference until it becomes an issue down the line. I once had someone come in asking for the PS7, and it wasn't just a joke because they were an absolutely clueless parent. The Xbox takes more effort because it goes; Xbox, Xbox 360 (Slim), Xbox One (S/X), Xbox Series S/X. I have to send so many parents away to get more info from their kid because they're not sure if they want an Xbox One X or an Xbox Series X. Talking about and buying consoles for newbies or parents is not at all beginner friendly, so if you're not already a gamer who buys that console series, you aren't expected to know or keep up with it.

I’m one of those who mostly listens and for good reasons! (i think) 1. I dont bear to finish the whole episode in one seating, so I try to listen in sections 2. I do this by only listening when I’m ready to sleep! So I listen a little, fall asleep, the next night listen from where I fell asleep at, and repeat! Not implying that u guys are boring but ugh ur voices are so calming and this content is so precious it has to be savoured 😂 win-win situation for me

My nana also bought quarters for all of her grandkids, and said the same thing "these will be worth something one day!!" Like they werent being minted by the thousands 🤪

That’s so sweet though 🥰 My grandma passed a away a few years ago, and my sister and I fought over the super old coins she had like a 1930 penny or something. I have no clue what it is worth, but it feels super cool to have something 90 years old now!

LISTENER ONLY. I sought this out after listening to the podcast on spotify so I could comment. I'm a recruiter for a manufacturing company, and I listen to podcasts when I have more mindless tasks. I support several HR managers throughout the US, so a nice chunk of my day is typing people's information into many, many Google Sheets. I work from home, so only my two kitties hear what I'm listening to. Thanks for keeping me sane during a crazy systems transition period at my work! :)

I came all the way to this video (from listening on apple podcasts) to tell Ben about me. What am I doing while I listen instead of watch? I'm writing calculus lectures and quizzes, and also washing bottles while my daughter naps. You guys and Ear Biscuits are normally in my ears during middle of the night feedings. Thanks for the company. 😂

OMG Petron was SO popular! I used to splurge on it too. Now the "popular" tequila brand is 1942 (Don Julio)

Hi! I’m here from the audio only podcast, so when Ben asked to hear from me, I knew I had to comment here! I listened to this episode while doing some homework, so I didn’t want the distraction of a video. And when I finished that, I played a game, so I could listen and play a game on my phone at the same time. Great episode! I enjoyed the lightning round 😊

Oi, I'm an audio podcast listener! Just a regular American neuroscientist working in the UK for her post-doctoral fellowship. I play the podcast in the lab while running experiments and analyzing data. Speaking of data... when's the next stats and/or data focused podcast? 👀

the Magna Carter was written back in 13th century in England, think there are like 10 copies still preserved so might be why one could have been auctioned but there’s 100% a copy in the British library and one in Salisbury cathedral... as an English child I was taken to see both during my schooling!

Message in a bottle from an audio-only listener! I do graveyard shifts packing online retail orders, so I listen to a lot of podcasts to keep myself entertained while my eyes & hands are busy. I appreciate you having it on Google Podcasts so I don't have to burn all my data streaming the video :)

I'm one of the listeners who only listen to this through Spotify! Came here because you asked who we are and what we do: I'm a 27 year old woman mostly listening to your podcasts while working out or while doing work at home (doing the dishes, folding laundry, ...)

I mostly listen only, sometimes when I’m trying to fall asleep because both of your voices are pretty calming, but usually I’m doing chores or something.

Listener only here! I like to listen to podcasts to help pass the time while shopping, cleaning, and driving. The quiz was fun to listen to and I didn’t feel like I needed to see the items you were talking about. When I have time to sit down and watch, I catch-up on the more involved vids that would be hard to only listen to (such as on your main channel).

Hi! podcast listener here! often times I like to go on long walks and listen to your podcast. thats why I mostly only listen and not watch the podcasts. It gives me something to listen to while I'm outside enjoying a walk, while otherwise I wouldn't go on weekly walks. :)

There is almost always a pod playing in the background of everything I do. I usually do strictly audio or video for different pods. For this one, I do both audio and video, just depends where I'm at. I play you guys when I need something chill.

I rewatch (audio only) all the episodes I've already seen while I'm at work. I work in a grocery store bottle return room so I'm alone al day and it's loud so it's nice listening to conversations 🥰🥰

As someone who has had to drink cheap vodka that tasted like acetone and made me gag and want to throw up after a single shot, I can assure you that not all vodka is the same. Please splurge on vodka at least a little bit

Yeahhh it’s the same with all alcohols. Save money and you’ll get shit quality and a shit hangover. Spend more and you’ll get a cleaner drunk and less hangover.

Just came to say I only listen because I work from home, and I love listening to podcasts while I work to make the time go by quicker. This is one of the pods I choose to listen to, so I'm one of the odd balls :-) I listen on Overcast and I'm thankful I can listen, you help brighten my work day!! Also, the type of work I do does not allow me to break my attention from my screen, so I can only listen during work, pods help immensely.
