I love your indignant and spirited defence of the trip to Derbyshire in P&P! Yes, I bet that person didn’t do well in their A Levels! 🤣I was so far behind Claudia on this I gave up on keeping score. Salute to the translating skills. So fun!

The trip to Derbyshire is essential to the plot. Talk about a turning point for all of the characters involved in it!!

11:12 - You're right: Pride and Prejudice IS indeed the perfect novel. I do, however, like Mansfield Park a lot more than you do. But that's because I studied it at university and we dug deep and I had a great professor leading the way. If I'd read it on my own I wouldn't have liked it much

Hi Claudia, I didn't do very well. At the beginning I thought don't assume everyone knows where the pause button is LOL. Yes, I know the basics of my phone but editing is still like geometry was in high school. In other words I failed. I read to Jane Austen novels this July and I'm loving both of them. I read Pride and Prejudice with the group and loved loved it. I'm now reading Northanger Abbey and, after reading all the nonfiction about Jane Austen and knowing this was her first novel, I see the genius in her as a young woman. I I thought Mansfield Park was different than her other books but I have to say I enjoyed it. Fun video. Love and aloha

Even better than I thought it would be from the title! I scored appallingly there were options for most of the reviews. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it 🤓📚😂

I got 14 right, 6 wrong, and my incorrect guesses all coincided with yours, Claudia. It's gratifying to know that others share my negative feelings about Mansfield Park! And agreed about the girl who read Pride and Prejudice for her A-levels, too! Minerva was a highlight, here, of course, too. My son had me rewinding to that part, over and over.

I’ve only ever read Pride and Prejudice when I was like 16-17 years old. I got a huge annotated book on Emma that I plan to plow through though. I wouldn’t have been able to guess any of it.

I’m so sorry you don’t like Mansfield Park. I find the descriptions of Mrs. Norris to be laugh-out-loud funny. As for Fanny Price, a lot of people think that Fanny is a weakling. Nothing could be further from the truth. Fanny has a backbone of stainless steel; she risks losing everything that matters to her when she refuses to marry Henry. She is also a much better judge of character than more popular heroines such as Elizabeth Bennet and Emma Woodhouse. Elizabeth and Emma could learn a lot from Fanny Price. I hated it when I was 18, but I re-read it at 40 and loved it.

I totally enjoyed this video. Is there anyone who doesn't put Pride and Prejudice first? There must be! I have just started watching your videos recently and they have inspired me to get active on Goodreads again. Most of my reading is nonfiction and political, but I know I will find some good recommendations for novels there. Have you ever read To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis? It's science fiction, which I know isn't your genre particularly, but it also happens to be the funniest book I have ever read. And there is a very important cat!

I've only read two of Austen's books (Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice), and then decided her books just weren't for me. Listening to these reviews I think I'm right about not bothering with the other books. This was a fun video to watch though. I knew the one about the father was not about P&P, because the father was the only fun character in that book, and the romance quote I thought fit both of them.

oh, that was sooo enjoyable! and i‘m totally counting this towards my „jane austen july“. shamefully, i got only 10 right. buuut, non-austenites saying: „not much action“, „people talking spit about people“, „people visiting people“, „people not working“ etc. is not much help, is it? and i‘m 💯 with you on the derbyshire trip! elizabeth sees darcy in an altogether new light. also, the wet shirt… please do more videos like this. and, husband + cat addition always make for an extra fun video. servus from tiny town austria, monica

Well, most of the negative comments were about Persuasion or Mansfield Park or Northanger Abbey 😂, so I just picked one more or less at random. I’ve just started Persuasion and like it so far, but I must say that Emma and Pride and Prejudice are my most favourite.

I got 14/20 :) Elton goes to Bath in Emma, but we don’t see it (also I only remembered that because I watched the 2009 bbc miniseries yesterday). And Highbury isn’t close to Bath so they got that wrong, it’s close to London (Emma’s sister and Knightley’s brother don’t live far away from them which makes it all the weirder she hasn’t visited them. But she does go on the day trip to box hill which is close by and close to London too)
@lesleybarklay7982 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had it right at first, then changed my answer when I saw the Bath bit.
@marysmith50032 жыл бұрын
Doing well or poorly on this test is no judge of Austen knowledge because these one-star got so much wrong! Guessing what they were talking about was, as Charlotte Lucas might say, entirely a matter of chance.
@EmoBearRights3 ай бұрын
Emma is set nowhere near Bath - Highbury is in Surrey and had the reviewer done some effing research she could have googled Box Hill and discovered that.... badly done Lydia. Her reference to Bath threw me off. I did get P&P though.
