Guide to Home Gym Lighting (Covering All The Options & Info)

Here's my guide to lighting your home gym. In this video we cover various LED options, fluorescent, smart lights, calculating and laying out lights, and anything and everything lighting related.
When we bought this place the garage was a skeleton, just two fluorescents and 2 screw in lightbulbs. Fast forward 2 years and Wynie and I have completely remodeled the place and added 42 recessed lights. In between that time we tried all kinds of things, LED garage lights, LED strips, smart bulbs and even a ton of stuff that didn't make the video.

Honestly, nice lighting was something I didn't know I needed until I watched this video. My garage has one lightning and it was pretty dim. Im still trying to build my garage gym so I'd rather put my money towards equipment than lights. That being said I bought that 3 led light that screws into the light bulb after watching this video and its the best $35 I've ever spent! Thanks!

I was out once I realized see was in the video lol I kidd, I kidd. But the lights you had previously is what we have now, you are right looking up can be tough!! When we do improve the lightening it will be with the Phillips Hue, that’s what we have all through the house! Was really surprised how overkill we both can get, but that’s a garage gym owner who is passionate about it.

Great video bro. I have a 10x11 spare bedroom for my gym and I am using the 5 wing led light and looking directly into it is definitely a bad idea. It works for that space but I am thinking about adding the color led lights for mood.

Over light and use dimming and have multiple circuits so you can dim different groups of lights... Always look for >90CRI... plenty of options at 95CRI today and those will make everything look better like natural sunlight (100CRI) and not old school roadway light (50 CRI)... I always suggest to use uplighting not just downlighting, which will create some natural ambient light coming from different angles and reduce perceived glare from any fixtures if someone looks up... Consider using LED tape light around ceiling perimeters and floor corners - you can hide them behind trim and they will glow / indirectly light the room... throw away old fixtures, Chinese light bulbs are unpredictable and never match one another

Have a question for you Gluck…I just bought some fringe colored bumpers. I saw a mark on the edge of one, went to rub the mark off and my finger ended up the color of the bumper. Here I thought these were colored in the mix when making them but I guess they are coated? Does anyone make true colored bumpers or are all of them just coated? Thanks

I've never had that happen and they should be colored in the process. Was it a chalk like residue or oil?

@@GlucksGym kind of chalky but it stained my finger pretty good. It looks to me like the spot I saw that I tried to rub off was actually the black rubber showing beneath the coating. If I buy fringe again it will only be black contrast plates. They also overcharged me with two Chicago taxes plus my state tax and i don’t even live near that hell hole. In the end they made it right but I was not happy because if I didn’t pull up the detailed invoice I would never have caught it. My original receipt just says tax amount with no information that it’s the total of 3 different taxes. It happened on two orders before I caught it and they refunded me the $64 plus a large discount on a couple of 55lb. bumpers. Thanks for the reply you and Winnie always put a smile on my face👍

The main complaint about Phillips Hue is that they are a pain to get to work with other smart home devices and when you want to do more you are forced to either invest in the whole Phillips line or have two separate control systems. But if you are just using them for lighting and not setting up any fancy routines for them to perform or integrate them into a larger smart home, then you shouldn't run into any issues.

I've used them with my Google Home, Spotify, and their own app without issue and went with them because I wanted to eventually link up so many of them (42) with the hub. So far so good.

@@GlucksGym I saw a rep 4000 with lever arms, lat pulldown, and separate plate storage for $1100 only issues hieght and depth was 24" but I would have bought larger cross members had it been shorter... Was 30 minutes from me on Facebook used but still new condition (you can tell he didn't use it as many parts were still in plastic)... The hieght made it impossible for my space was still thinking about flipping it but had no time and have had crap luck with flipping squat racks in the past plus they're heavy and a pain to store.. Originally his pics were garbage taken in the dark with the first iphone but I knew it was the clear nonetheless... Wish I had the hieght that was a no brainer... Love clear coats or stainless if/when I move I am so upgrading to a clear or stainless rack
