@@GlucksGym You kind of did put it in there with the rings, actually. Basically the same, but the TRX trainer is quite a bit more versatile in the long run. Although I like some of your points, As some one who has had a home gym for 30 years, I feel a few things are missing and your order of purchase is way off, especially if you cannot afford to buy it all at once. My sequence assumes you can only buy one thing at a time. 1) Flooring At least 2 Horse stall Mats and if you wish add in the plywood to build your platform right off. Last thing you want to do is wreck the floor, so it is best to protect it straight off. 2) Dumbbells' Adjustable or fixed does not matter just depends on the budget and space, Best quality you can afford or could be a huge waste of money to upgrade later, Partial sets is also an option ( Cannot beat for versatility) 3) A good quality Adjustable bench. Preferably Incline/Decline/ Flat. This will massively increase the versatility of the Dumbbells' you already have. It is worth buying good quality here as you will definitely want to buy the best one you can afford, so as not to have to upgrade later as you will only ever need one in most home gyms. 4) Kettlebells Adjustable or Fixed is a personal preference, same as with Dumbbells', Adds a ton of new Movements that you just cannot replicate well with Dumbbells'. Note: Kettlebells can be swapped in ahead of Dumbbells', Just depends on which basic movements you prefer most. 5)Buy a basic starter Olympic weight set, with Bar: Even through C0-Vid and definitely before many fitness supply stores offered on average a basic multi-purpose 700lb rated Olympic bar with a 300Lb set of Plates for around $300.00. This usually got you one set of each weight increment and a future beater bar. Everybody will eventually need that beater bar for Landmine use and anything else you don't want to use your good bar on. Also a 700 lbs capacity is great for for most home gym lifters, to begin with anyways. 6)Now it is time to buy your Rack, This is where you need to give the most thought as you want to get the best rack you can afford that has as many future accessories options as possible, as this will become the center piece of most home gyms from this point on. 7) TRX style straps and bands, Highly versatile and relatively cheap. I placed these here as I use them off my rack, which based on my priority system I just got; as I never liked attaching them to the doors and Beams in my house. Otherwise they could easily swap into the number one spot. Great for tons of versatility and warm up work. Number 8) and beyond is where you can start adding in all those nice things like quality plates, especially the 45lbs that really are the only plate everybody need more than one set of, a better Olympic bar, specialty bars, rack attachments, cable machines, Flat benches, other specialty benches, slam balls, Rings, heavier Dumbbells' and Kettlebells etc. Once you get to Number 8 it is really dependent on where you want to go with your Gym. Number 1 through 7 however, I feel you will want in every gym. If you can buy them all at once fantastic. If not I feel the above sequence, will allow you to start working out and making gains and staying fit right away at an affordable cost.

Great overview! Due to prices and availability I currently use: Main Workout (3x/week): adjustable dumbbells (Core Fitness and OG spinlocks). During work breaks: adjustable kettlebell, rings, walker for dips Stretch/Rehab: resistance bands, long wooden stick Cardio: jump rope, and double end bag. It's enough to keep me busy, but stall mats, barbells andolympic weights are next. Then a PRX folding rack for my small garage.

Absolutely agree with the AB-5000 ZeroGap recommendation! It's an absolute tank, even as a flat bench it feels more solid and steady than any flat bench I've used at a commercial gym. The ZeroGap feature is clutch for flat exercises especially DB press where rocking back with a gap is annoying. REPs customer service is incredible too. My bench arrived with a slightly bent frame that left the pad twisted a few degrees and they sent me an entire new bench within days!

Been working out for over a year at my own home gym and now I’m making a big upgrade (almost a complete makeover) and this video is very helpful. Used to have lots of cardio machines which went in, personally I only need to keep the elliptical but well can’t really remove all cardio machines as I’m not the only one who uses the home gym. As for the strength training side of the gym, I’m starting to get rid of old benches that can barely support any serious weight, also just ordered my first Olympic barbell and need to think about a good (but affordable) power cage as well as where to place it because my home gym isn’t really big… now I’m wishing I saw this video even before deciding to build the gym

I subbed for the humor. The excellent advice and information is just a bonus. I'm 56 years old. I've never worked out in my life. I've always had very physical, blue collar jobs so I've always been in good shape - until last year when I was diagnosed with cancer. A couple of surgeries and radiation and I'm good to go - except I'm weak as a cat. I'm going to hit the weights to try and get some of my strength back. I'm on a strict budget because of missing a year of work. I'm thinking the best, cheapest way to start is with a pair of Bowflex adjustable dumbbells and a bench. I think it just gives me more options than a bar and plates right now. Once I build up and save up, I can expand my home gym. I welcome any thoughts or advice.

I’ve watched so many of your videos that I thought I was already subbed. My apologies. Great content! Keep the comedy coming! I bought everything in just about the same order 3 years years ago when I started my gym. Just wanted that bang for the buck you’re speaking of, I guess. Buying the dumbbells was the toughest. I found a local fitness outlet that sold the same hex rubberized ones for 74¢/ lb. And it was still very expensive. I’d pop in there and drop $100 here, $160, $220 there for 4 or 5 months. It really hurt. Thank you for sharing this video.

Hope your Channel keeps growing man. You seem like a dude I’d hang out with (A.K.A. You’re personable, not saying that in a weird way lol). I would agree with your basics. I think an honorable mention should be a quality EZ Curl bar. I say that because if you have limited space an EZ curl bar gives you versatility to start with. That was the first piece I started with (and was able to get my hands on) outside of a few dumbbells I already had laying around the house. I’ve built up my Arsenal since then, but the Curl bar I have (Rogue) was heavy duty enough to, as well as gave me confidence in adding heavier weight to do a “curl bar deadlift” and “Curl bar bench press” with a wider grip. Plus all of the shoulder, back and arm movements you can do. Also, obviously, adding plates gives you heavier curls if you don’t have the dumbbells, the different grip angles work the different heads of the biceps etc... It will get you by in a pinch, especially for limited space. Just my 2 cents worth.
@GlucksGym
@GlucksGym 3 жыл бұрын
I actually own that same curl bar and love it and would recommend it as well I just didn't pick it in my top 7. I guess if you cut out the rings (but really that was a pull up bar) it could go there or say eff flooring and put it at #7. I got mine pretty early on, before I owned most of this stuff so I agree with you on some of those points. Also, thanks! I appreciate the kind words!
@jokermann77
@jokermann77 3 жыл бұрын
@@GlucksGym yeah, rings and pull up bar are pretty interchangeable. However. All the greats say you need rings (more versatile) or a pull up bar. These days, the racks all have a pull up bar of some sort. Once I get my fat butt back into shape I may have to pick up some rings. Not sure about you, but when I picked up my Curl bar, I was literally checking 3-4 different curl bars for stock. The rogue was the first one to have stock. They have had pretty much everything I’ve wanted/needed in stock over other companies so that’s the primary reason I’ve went with them for the stuff I do have currently. It doesn’t hurt I have become a fan of Rogue since purchasing from them so I usually look at them first! LoL
@GlucksGym
@GlucksGym 3 жыл бұрын
That's literally my exact story as well. They produce great stuff and have really cranked up their quantity. Plus it doesn't hurt I prefer American made. My gym has some diversity but Rogue has also never let me down.
@jokermann77
@jokermann77 3 жыл бұрын
@@GlucksGym agreed, I try to buy USA made when I can. Just like everything else, it’s not always possible and sometimes price wins out. Only issue I had with my Rogue products they took care of me and gave me different solutions. Their customer service has been great when I’ve needed to talk to them. My other issues were issues while/during shipping, not their fault so I don’t blame them and it’s nothing I’m too upset about (just some scuffs, and my OHPB Sticker got too cold during some negative temps and came off and then “broke”.) nothing I’m concerned about.

Hi beginner home gym builder here. I've seen a good deal for a set of weight plates but the thing is the dimensions of the plates get smaller as the weight of the plate is smaller. Is this going to be a problem when it comes to deadlifting? Is it better to have plates that are different weights but have the same dimensions for when you put the weight down on the floor? I hope that makes sense.
@GlucksGym

yeah bro this is precisely what i considered when picking out a globogym home replacement. no frills but maximize utility is what you did a great job showcasing here. the rings are a good idea i may have to revisit now, just worried that it seems like hell on shoulder joints. what do you think about pulleys? i added a spud inc pulley combo and am pretty pleased that it rounds out many of the cable accessory movements i missed from the gym like curls, raises, and pushdowns. it is claimed to even set up as a belt squat but I am still working on getting that to feel right. i like adjustable dumbbells and buying extra 25, 10, 5, 2.5 as necessary since my garage has cabinets on the sides where a dumbbell rack could go. lastly, strangely enough i have liked band pegs as an accessory too because they serve as weight pins sometimes since i have my rack unbolted and are cheaper than dip bars and pullup bars or weight pins.
@GlucksGym
@GlucksGym 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah they can be hard on the shoulders depending what you're doing although I've used them to help my friends with pullup progression and done a lot with them otherwise. I think like anything else you just have to adjust and do what feels OK. I haven't used a spud like system because I picked up a commercial cable machine from a gym closing but I did look at systems like that and all the way up to the slinger but then kinda lucked into this. Definitely need enough versatile stuff to keep it interesting, one of the things we all miss out on from a commercial gym is all that equipment.

The bolt down Titan X3, Rep Pr 4000 and PR 5000 alll have 80" options. The Bells of Steel Hydra also has some height options for you there's probably a few others as well but those are the big ones that jump to mind.

I think you need at least 1 crossmember member to connect left and right frames. Notice that how easy you can shake your rack. I don't see any of the crossmember to stabilize your rack. If you try to use force to shake it front to back, i bet you cannot shake it at all. Even if you bolted to the floor, it wont help to stable the rack. All your pull up bars are horizontal, verticals joint are the once can stable your rack. I hope this could help. :)
@GlucksGym
@GlucksGym 3 жыл бұрын
Yep it's because I flipped the fat and skinny pull up bar to be horizontal so I can use both (rather than vertical oriented) and so it doesn't get in my vertical space. I was going to bolt the rack down but honestly I'll probably swap the rack eventually and since I'll be expoxying the floors I haven't done that yet either.

A few inexpensive things to add to the list include mobility/recovery items like resistance bands, foam roller, and a lacrosse ball. I'd probably also recommend some lifting shoes. As far as a rack goes I think most people can get by with a stand for a budget pick. I started with a $150 stand from Amazon just to make sure I got into it. Although I totally agree with buy for life, you can get by with more of a hedge with cheaper equipment at first knowing you'll invest later.

For a power rack... I’ve been looking at a half rack at dicks sporting goods in the $350 range... has 3x3 uprights, and plate storage... And for dumbbells, I use plate loaded adjustable dumbbells... a little unwieldy sometimes, but I being I basically have a set of dumbbells that goes from 5 lbs to 150lbs in 5 lb increments that takes up very little space... sadly for most, these should be standard weights, not olympics, as with the dumbbells you will want a lot of 2.5 lb, 5 lb, and 10 lb plates so the dumbbells can stay physically small enough to reasonably still do your movements... imagine how hard it would be to dumbbell row a dumbbell that has a 45 lb plate on each end, lol And for cardio equipment... jump rope, jumping jacks, swimming, walking, running... for a machine, when I add one to my gym I’m gonna probably get a rower or something similar off of Facebook marketplace, you can find them less than $100 quite often. Bands are nice too for sure, cheap, small, and absolutely usable for most for gains

Fitness Gear Pro HR? It's ok. Hard to expect much for $350 but it gets the job done for some. Not the most stable and the quality can sometimes be lacking. I've seen people bend the metal tightening stuff down, damaged inside the box, things uneven and parts missing but some people like it though I expect a lot don't know better. I'd probably debate a Rep Pr 1100 at the price but maybe that's because I don't love half racks.

There is no top 5 or 7 or 10 items... top 2 maybe; gym mat and set of dumbbells.. dumbbell squats, shoulder press, dumbbell push-ups, bicep curl, tricep extention, bent over rows, etc.. For people who are fat they need cardio equipment, thinner people who want abs maybe a crunch rocker, etc.. Poor list.. first choice Olympic plates.. weak dude.. squat rack the center piece of your gym.. 99 percent of people will never buy that.. Start with a gym mat and set of dumbbells people.. from there based on your goals..
