I have the Guild Westerly version of this guitar (the M120) and wholeheartedly recommend that anyone looking for a smaller guitar check it out in addition to the made-in-the-U.S.A. M20. I looked at all manner of travel and other small guitars (up to 00 size) before picking up the M120. The solid wood construction, 1 3/4 nut, and 24.75" scale were big pluses for me. I primarily fingerpick with it and some of the alternatives (travel guitars, in particular) just felt too cramped. Even played hard with a pick it holds up very well. My sole complaint was with the tuners which required a bit of attention to get them to hold tune better. Because it's so easy to grab and play, I probably use it more often than all of my other guitars combined.

Love this guitar but would like to see a comparison between the Guild M-20 vs Martin 0015. I can't make up my mind between the two but leaning toward the M-20.

What did you decide? I have the same dilemma. I'm leaning towards the M-20 because of the short scale.

Nice demo of the guitar! The playing at the end is a nice way to hear how it sounds, and I always enjoy the music too. I like the sound you get the way you mic the guitar. I can easily hear differences in the guitars, and I think the mic is good enough to give me a sense of how the guitar sounds in a room. Thanks!

Hmmmm... I have a 1963 Guild M-20... four years prior to the above claimed date... I've seen examples from the late 50s. Jes' sayin'. FYI, from the interwebs: Introduced as the Economy M-20 in 1958, the Guild M-20 was a small-sized acoustic guitar with an entirely Mahogany body. This guitar can be seen on the cover of Nick Drake's 1970 album, Bryter Layter. Years of Production: 1958 - 1965, 1969 - 1973 Body Style: Orchestra/Auditorium Wood Composition: Mahogany body, Rosewood fingerboard Design Elements: Rosewood bridge, tortoiseshell pickguard, 24 3/4-inch scale length, dot inlays Notable Guild Acoustic Players: Richie Havens, Nick Drake, John Denver

I really need to check one of these out in person. I always liked the feel and sound of Guild. I really can't tell if I like the sunburst from pictures and videos. It looks like a picture of a guitar -- just two dimensional. I suppose that's probably because the matt finish doesn't provide the depth that a gloss finish does.

I actually prefer jumbo to dreadnought, had a Gibson dove 🕊 and couldn’t get used to it. Now after 20 years of owning loads of guitars and selling I’ve ended up with only two guitars. a 2008 Gibson j200 custom elite and a 2013 guild f50. I prefer the guild. I prefer jumbo because it seems to sit easier on me when sitting down playing.

@@adriannasanchez468 Some other experts who also claim to have been there said he used a small body Yamaha that resembled the M20, and a nylon string classical. So who's to say who's right? Pink Moon is definitely the Brazilian rosewood D-28 that he owned just before he died. Having played a lot of Nick Drake on one several times, it's definitely the same guitar. You can't get that body and high end snap out of anything else but a spruce top dreadnought with ebony fretboard at that deep a tuning.
@viollet92574 жыл бұрын
So you have the natural in the background but don't think to bring it also into the foreground? Um, why, for all the people like me who don't know which colour (yes I spell it that way ;-) to choose! Nooo, don't do that! If you've got it, flaunt it!

I recommend playing them back to back and compare them again unless you are just a MARTIN bias person
@cszollinger5 жыл бұрын
Both of those guitars have larger bodies and longer scale lengths than the M-20 which gives it more snap and bass. It does sound smaller for sure, but for a lot of people, myself included it has a specific vibey sound that is just perfect for certain applications. Those Martin 15 series guitars are great. The 000-15 is probably my favorite (new) Martin I've ever played.

Let Quinton demo it alone. Or does he need the explanations "mahagony" and "they call it sunburst"?

@gslide065 жыл бұрын
Very nice guitar. Disagree about the price point. $1200 is cheeky. I have an M20 that is China made and it sounds just like this. Paid significantly less. The USA premium is a bit ridiculous on this one. I guess the Nick Drake affiliation adds to it also.
@adriannasanchez4685 жыл бұрын
Yamaha and fender have some very good sounding entry level acoustics... But you folks need to realize that 1-2k for a guitar IS a working mans guitar. How long do you think people back in the day had to save up for a nice guitar? If you want it bad enough you can save up for it, just depends on how stingy you are.
@apegrasshoplizard2 жыл бұрын
I've ben looking at Ibanez AC340PN in the budget catagory. My understanding is at thie pricepoint of the Guild M-20 your better off looking at breedlove, higher end Alvarez or go the Sigma/Martin or Taylor. Cheaper than the Ibanez even is the Orangrwood Jr which looks promising. I still love the american made new Guild M-20, but its too pricey for me !

@@adriannasanchez468 I have played one CEO 7 and I own a new M-20 (and also a M-120), I will take the M-20 anyday, without even considering the price difference... The CEO was really muddy sounding, maybe the CEO 7 that I played was a dud (or the Adirondack top was totally unopened) but in anycase the M-20 is a really coherent design and full of personality that will stand against to some much pricier guitars in my collection you do not expect it to sound like a bluegrass dreadnought (and I have some really nice vintage guitars and a big jumbo made by one of the best steel strings European luthier...).
