We are talking about a difference of a bidon of water BUT the LOOK has a much stronger bottom bracket than the competition, such as Specialised.

There was a GCN video from around 5 months ago...paint finishes were one reasonably significant difference (Wilier bikes of Astana and Groupama FDJ), wheels, groupset. Specialized of Quikstep and Bora was a lot closer in weight but lighter of the two was SRAM
@MapdecVodcast3 ай бұрын
Yes. I think I saw it. It’s surprising how much paint can weigh.
@StopTheRot3 ай бұрын
I’ve only watched the first 20 seconds, but surely the weight has very little to do with frames? A light v heavy frame set differs by about 400g. It’s interesting that some channels weigh bikes and they claim 6.9kg for an ultegra built bike. I call BS on that. I have a V3Rs in a medium type size - rim brake (although it’s now broken - I might be in touch if insurers do the right thing) - with super record mechanical and Bora wheel - and it’s 7.6kg.

Yeah. I think that too. Dodgy scales I think.

The Corima MCC EVO 32MM - Carbon spokes tubular are quoted in their website at 1280g for a pair that's light. So which wheels are they running?
@MapdecVodcast2 ай бұрын
In pictures it seems to be the WS EVO and possibly the tubular version.

To be honest I think weight has absolutely no impact on us normal riders. If I was riding the Tour de France for 3 weeks, day after day I‘d be concerned about it. For a weekend warrior, by the time you‘ve got your repair kit on the bike, the weight of your bike has probably already doubled 😂 I think we still have a lot of learn & aero will win in the end
@erich82583 ай бұрын
G. Martin just loves to complain and make excuses. The year he came in 10th in the Tour de France he accused all the top finishers of doping. He only got away with it because the interview was in French.

Bike manufacturers are failing if they can't manage to get their pros on 6.8kg bikes. Aero is important sure, but on days with 3000+ meters of elevation and riders as their minimal weight, 1kg makes a big difference. Specialized and cervelo have managed it for their GC riders. Others are on nearly 8kg bikes, which is a joke.
@pauladams567326 күн бұрын
There's a trade off though. If you cut weight at this level, the frame will be less stiff, so the amount of power transferred will be less. It's not all about weight, it's about strength to weight ratio and in this regard, LOOK is number one.

Reserve just released a new climbing wheel that comes in a tubular version. And, Jonas' R5 was using them on at least 1 stage in the tdf. Not entirely sure you can claim that no one has invested in tubular tech in 10 years...
@Sfs6782 ай бұрын
Hello from a regular watcher! I Think Aero is important but at the same time I want at least a bike which is 8 kg or lighter. I want that from a Gravel bike and a Road bike. But only a few ar really that light at a cheaper price point. I want it to be at least 8kg because my current disc break bike weights 8kg and feels plenty fast and 'stiff' enough.

It's going to be very interesting to compare my Tommasini VLC2 carbon (rim brake Campagnolo Bora Ultra 50mm Vittoria tubulars 25mm, Deda aero bars, record 12-speed mechanical) against the Blade 795RS I've just bought from you guys. If it's OK I will bring it up, to compare with the Blade for the bike fit

Apparently Cofidis went 'back to black' for the team bikes after first week of the Tour to save a little weight over the new Satin white scheme. I had wondered why they switched. Also he has retracted most of his statement, basically saying it was a bit heavy for stage 11 where he lost 45 secs to the Pog group, and has posted on his Instagram showing the weight of his bike at 7.23kg.
@MapdecVodcast3 ай бұрын
Amazing. I hadn't seen that.

Well, under 6.8Kgs is better. Aero bikes as heavy as my gravel isn't interesting, it's to much. I have Enve aero stem and Deda Superzero RS, it's about 500g with computer mount but my bike is still 6.3kgs. Rim brake though! If you like to save weight on any bike, it's raw with matte or gloss clear coat. White or metalic paint will be heavy..
@MapdecVodcastАй бұрын
Very true. It is astonishing how much weight is in paint.
@Swampster70Күн бұрын
7.7kg too heavy? Pogi smashed everyone on 7.3kg. 400g doesn't lose you 43 minutes.
@waynereid61032 ай бұрын
Here we go again. To interpret 'the bike' to mean frame only is all on you. Personally I can't reconcile your views. If I am questioning 7.7kg I would only be referring to the whole package. Anyone who has ever tried to drop a kilo off their bike would, almost by default, target every component.
@freburt27722 ай бұрын
How much are we to believe bike websites? Specialized s works top of line says 6.65 kg. Even a normal sl8 frame with ultegra is 7.2kg. Yes sans pedals but still...

It’s rare to see any advertised weights feature in reality. Wheels are usually the worst culprits.

1000 grams of weight up a hill is too much. If it was 50 grams that's nothing but yeah 2 ibs is too heavy. Can't wait to see a team go back to rim
