She looks like a seraphim, the burning ones, angels that are closest to god. I loved the way they played with the fact the fairy is blue, nobody knows what color seraphim burns, but blue fire is considered hottest. when the two wings covering her face, the other two covering her feet and the two wings in the middle used to fly, they were described that way.

@@victoravila299 i am aware of that. but if you know the description of angels in the bible. they have wings who posses eyes. her design is clearly to reflect angel sense the blue fairy is supposed to be a metaphor for god in Pinnochio. Gephetto wishing upon a stair is a metaphor of him prying to god. this is also mirrored in this movie of Gephetto prying to god to bring carlo back. the movie used Jesus status as another analogy to Gephetto beliefs. Gephetto in his despair had a crysis of belief untill he made a doll which came to life. Gephetto fixed the status because his belief in god was fixed.

I mean, the tale of Pinocchio is from Italy, so having the “fairy” look like a Seraph, the highest rank of angel, is apt for a nation that has been Christian since its inception after the collapse of the pan-Roman identity and Western Empire. The “Fairy” term was, however, used in the original 1889 book, though the making of angel/demons into fairies/witches (good or bad) I think is common with Anglos/Germans/Scandinavians. This switch adapts stories for their culturally Protestant tastes, where public expressions of faith were usually seen as awkward or frowned upon due to their being so many denominations. It’s a similar phenomenon in the Italian “La Cenerentolla” and the English “Cinderella” operas.

I'm honestly surprised by HOW similar this is to the Disney movie. There's obviously differences, like the time period and setup, but the story beats feel very reminiscent of the Animated one. Geppetto makes Pinocchio, Blue Fairy shows up while Geppetto is asleep and makes Pinocchio alive, and makes the Cricket his conscience. Then he becomes a performer, and dies after saving Geppetto's life from the giant fish, and is brought back to life. It's not a BAD choice, I just thought with their whole "It's a story you think you know, but you don't" slogan for the marketing, I thought it was going to be more akin to the original story, because the Disney one is the story EVERYONE knows, while the original story by Carlo Collodi is more obscure by comparison.

They're both "similar" because they're both an interpretation of the same source material "The Adventures of Pinocchio" by Carlo Collodi, published 1883. Disney didn't create Pinocchio. The classic 1940 animated feature was a breakthrough in animation, and is beautiful, that's why it's iconic and popular. But just like Guillermo del Toro's version, Disney put their own twist and unique elements to the story. However, their latest remake, which they injected with all sorts of messaging nonsense, is far inferior than this one. It's unwatchable. Del Toro's stop motion film is honest and entertaining. It tackles profound topics like death, metamorphosis and being true to oneself, without being preachy or in-your-face.

@Iwanodón45 _ Collections but unlike the other versions Gepeto had his own son who died at a young age and it just seemed and look so sad that Pinocchio did not turn into a real boy to help fill in the void that Gepeto had in his heart and would be happier if Pinocchio died with his loved ones after living a long happy life and starting a family of his own and telling his kids and grandkids his amazing epic story and Sébastien could have wish him to be a real boy.

I've experienced pressure from my parents for not being good enough, and almost always being compared to others. Hearing this is exactly what I needed to hear, even if it didn't come from my parents. It gave me comfort and made me less hard on myself for not being the daughter they always wanted.

I’m sorry but I don’t like this design AT ALL. She doesn’t look like a fairy, but some sorta angel which is good but the character is clearly a fairy, not an angel. In the book she appears at first as the ghost of a little girl and Then when she re appears she is a grown Woman, Del Toro should have gone that way.

It's not "clearly" a Fairy, actually, the word "Fairy" is not even once quoted in the movie. In her words she's a "Guardian of the Little Things", and she also points to the fact she has different names in different worlds. If you want the book's story, then go read the book.
