Basically Axl’s theme is centered around how he’s essentially quantum leaping in and out of time. He sees everything and everywhere without any sense of control let alone the ability to go home to his own time. Until recently he’s finally accepted this power, and finally gained some level of control over this power and in that same sense his life. The term “out of the box” is a Schrödinger paradox reference.

I mean, plenty of kids sometimes develop crushes on teachers or other similar adults... There may be a relationship similar to parenting there, but it's not exactly the same... And many girls like traits in a man that are similar to a father too... Strong, dependable, caring, mature... Whatever... Some say that women will often be attracted to guys with father-like qualities... I'm not sure it's really that odd for her to be into him... Now, if he was into her, that I'd be more concerned about...If he helped raise her as a little girl, he would almost certainly see her more as a child in comparison... I expect that he sees her more as a daughter or younger sister or something... Technically if he didn't groom her or anything, they're both adults now and they aren't actually related, so maybe not a big deal... I don't know.. But yeah, I'd find that a lot weirder than her being into him...

Summaries for each In Guilty Gear Strive all the characters are striving to change that is why the title is strive Axl has a power that makes him jump between time uncontrollably but in strive he accepts his power gaining some control over it. The repeated line of being in a box and frozen time refers to him dealing like he is stuck in a frozen state while everything changes around him Chips theme is about preserving through tough times. At the lowest point in his life he is helped by someone who had no reason to help him leading to Chip never giving up and setting goals for himself to achieve. Chip goes on to become a ninja and the president of a small country. Mays theme is about moving on from her feelings towards someone who doesn’t reciprocate those feelings. May along with many others was rescued as an orphan and latter developed a romantic interest in her savior but because him and the others saw him as a father figure no relationship ever developed

You know "I can't get over how bad I wanna sleep with my adoptive dad" is one of those song ideas that you'd never think would work, but May's theme pulls it off pretty well. Also "disaster of passion" sounds like a weird "polite" way of referring to a broken condom.

Interesting thing about May she was an orphan when Johnny rescued her and named her after the month he rescued her. In fact each member of the Jellyfish Air Pirates save for Johnny and Dizzy are named after a month in the year. April, Febby (February), March, June, July, Augus (August) Sephy (September), Octy (October), Novel (November) Leap and finally the crew's pet cat Janis (January).

axl's song makes a lot more sense when you realize he can stop time and so he sees all of these things as he goes from one day to the next, unable to go back to his own time, and only able to keep pushing through discovering more and more things as he finds his path forward, while being one of the only people able to stop and genuinely take in his surroundings.

Axl's story is kind of tragic in that his abilities include skipping through time. Sometimes, he's able to control it, but most of the time it's involuntary and he has NO control over it. In GG strIVe, he has some more control over it, but he has no idea where he'll end up when he uses his ability and relies on sheer luck to achieve his goals.

Wrong on every curve there mate, he wasn't able to control his powers at all, blindly slipping through time subconsciously. Until mid Xrd, where he learned to control them, he doesn't bounced around anymore unwillingly and has full control, and at the end of Xrd when he stops time he loses the ability to jump timelines permanently.

Wow, with the last vid with Sol and Ky’s theme reaction being made over 4 months ago, I thought we wouldn’t see this series return. May’s theme mostly has to do with her connection to Johnny (don’t know if you remember him from the Xrd instant kills vid but he’s the cool cowboy dude with sunglasses). Johnny went around saving orphans and recruiting them into his pirate gang the “jellyfish pirates”, and this includes May who is an exception in that she is Japanese. In the world of Guilty Gear, Japan had been for the most part wiped away from the map due to a certain incident, but people from there have an aptitude for this world’s version of magic and so the survivors of that incident were grouped together in a colony that typically doesn’t allow anyone to enter or leave, because they are also considered unstable and as such are monitored and given medicine that slows down any degradation that could lead to them becoming ticking time bombs more or less. With that bit of context out of the way, she eventually does escape and meets Johnny who takes her under his wing along with the rest of the crew and finally she feels like she has a family as they go along on adventures doing pirate things. May ends up developing feelings for Johnny but he doesn’t at least visibly show that he feels that way towards her possibly because he doesn’t want to hurt her or have it feel uncomfortable because of the power dynamic or because she looks quite young-most likely a combination of these. This leaves her rather frustrated because she loves him and so she’s loyal to his cause and is happy when she’s with him, but there’s also these feelings that she can’t help but having and she wants him to see her as a woman which is why there was that slightest bit of resentment in her song. Another thing to note is she is apparently considerably older than she looks although to my knowledge we don’t know her real age as do most of the characters in the franchise, and pre-Strive she looks even younger so you can’t super blame Johnny for kind of avoiding the hints that May has given that she wants to be in a relationship with him. With that being said, a good long serious talk between the two coming clean about how the feel is in order.

I see a lot of background for May and Axl's themes, but not for Chipp's; dude was a Heroin Addict/smuggler until he decided to go clean and become president of his own country. The enemies coming after him is both his old gang and his addiction, and he doesn't feel like he's earned his titles hence the "play the hero" bit. You guys need to listen to Hellfire and Armor Clad Faith, those two are both amazing themes that give so much depth to the characters

Worth noting that the lyrics on screen aren't always accurate on those videos. Understandable that they got some wrong though since ... well ... the lyrics can be pretty hard to understand at times. For example, the line from Chipp's song is supposed to be "Fight like a tiger, walk in the PYRE". Though from what I understand, everyone still just kind of pretends it's "walk in the park" since it's funnier that way EDIT: OK nevermind apparently it really is "walk in the park"

He was taken from his original era and timeline, and was stuck just going between different times without being able to go home. But, despite that, he has a great outlook, hes cheerful and optimistic about things. Or atleast, its what i think, still the whole time powers is real, as many others have probably said.

Axl Low is a time traveler from 1999. The Guilty Gear games actually take place in the 2180s, so that means he time jumped over 100 years. Only thing is, it was a complete accident. By some freak occurrence his universal ID (it makes more sense in context lol) lined up with a cosmic being called I-No who was created outside of the constructs of the world and had terrifying powers. Back in Axls time he was the savior of his neighborhood in the UK where he brought an end to violence there peacefully, and had a girlfriend who he loved. He spends most of the series searching for a way to return to his time, until he finally gains control of his powers, but by the time he does the world is put in danger, and he sacrifices his ability to go back in order to save it. He said he just couldn't go back. In order to be the man his girlfriend Megumi would be proud of, he had to stay. Chipp Zanuff grew up in a really dark time in the worlds history. He was born in America and resorted to dealing drugs to get by and he was also severely addicted. Eventually he outlived his usefulness to his bosses and they send a ninja assassin to kill him, but instead the ninja helped him beat his addiction and taught him the way of the ninja. Now Chipp is the president of a kingdom in Africa and he goes around hyper aware of world issues, trying to protect the future wherever he goes. May is the first mate of the Jellyfish pirates! A group of pirates led by a gorgeous man named Johnny, and every member is loosely named after months of the year. May is Japanese, and in the 2070s Japan was completely wiped out during the awakening of the being responsible for the 100 year war that would follow, dubbed the crusades. The thing about Japanese people in Guilty Gear is they're REALLY strong. iirc May's anchor weighs about a ton, but she can swing it around effortlessly, and she's capable of a lot of other way crazier feats too. May is also an orphan, Johnny's sort of specialty is actually finding these orphaned girls and recruiting them into the pirates, and pretty much adopting them. Almost all of the pirates are girls other than 1 who is a cat lol. May was I believe the first girl Johnny found, so she's the defacto leader other than him. Thing is, May has a HUGE crush on Johnny. All of her actions in the series are motivated by impressing or protecting him. She knows it's weird to have feelings for her father figure, and Johnny only sees her as his daughter (he's very respectful and caring for all of his daughters), but she just can't shake those feelings. She loves Johnny. She'll follow him wherever he goes. She is the first mate after all. All of the characters you've reacted to so far, plus some more you'll see down the line, have 1 thing in common. They took part in the second holy order selection tournament, aka the plot of the first Guilty Gear game. Justice, the being who caused Japan to be destroyed, was finally sealed after 100 years of conflict, but 5 years later signs of the seal cracking emerged, and so a tournament was put together to secretly scout for warriors to defeat Justice, and the prize for winning was ANY wish you wanted. However this whole tournament was a rouse orchestrated by a character named Testament who was under Justices control, so Sol Badguy ends up defeating Testament and then fighting and killing Justice once and for all. The entrants of that tournament are all mainstays of the series that are all playable in basically every game.

So a lot of points. Daisuke, the creator of Guilty Gear, is a huge fan of Queen. Sol Badguy's name comes from a Queen song. So musically he uses some of the Queen toolset when songwriting. The simple way to explain Axl is that he is a time traveller but fully in control. So when you see him just referencing things of the same day repeating as a man stuck in time it's him wanting for those things to exist for him as real and not passing. Axl's plot is complicated but the jist is he feels trapped by his situation and tries to get out of it. Which is the end of the song when he finally gets hold of his power and can use it fully (My frozen time moves again) which a reference to the Axl in Strive is able to use is full potential and tries to fiz everything. Chipp is pretty simple. Dude has to go hard to do good deeds. You gotta do no matter. May is funny because she has a crush for her father figure, Johny, leader of her pirate crew. That's why she has a skull. I like that the song clearly makes the point that this is a disaster situation. She will never get with Johny, he will never want her. She kinda knows that but still tries and horribly fails. The analogy in the song being the off season swallow. Anyways. Glad you doing this because these songs are incredible. I'm waiting patiently for Happy Chaos Theme.

Also if you want some ideas on how to pair the songs up for a video then here's a couple. Let Me Carve Your Way/Love the Subhuman Self are the theme songs of Zato-1 and Millia Rage who are former lovers and were members of the assassins guild together. Rock Parade/ Mirror of the World/ The Circle are the theme songs of Anji Mito, Baiken and Bedman?. Anji Mito and Baiken were childhood friends and Anji is basically the only person who cares about Baiken, Baiken had been on a self-destructive quest for revenge and only chilled out and abandoned it when she met Delilah who was hunting the same person for revenge because he had killed her brother Bedman. Trigger/The Kiss of Death are the themes of Giovanna and Goldlewis. Giovanna is a special agent whose main role is protecting the president and Goldlewis is the Secretary of Absolute Defense and is functionally her superior officer.

Ok so Chips theme is very obviously about his life philosophy, the Ninja Code he lives by, he wont just lie down and take what life throws at him, he fights till the end to make everythibg right. Little bit of backstory: Chipp is from "A Country" a lawless area in the guilty gear world thats implyed to be the wasted remnants of the USA (war with magic bioweapons called hears wasted most of the world). He was a druct addict that worked as a small time drug dealer for some shady organization, when he started using more product than selling it the organization sent an assasin to kill him, said assasin (an undercover Ninja that infiltrated the Organization) saw potential in him and decided to teach him in Ninjutsu, these teachings turned Chipps life arround and turned him into the baddass warrior he is now. the organization that hired the assasin eventually found out that Chipp wasnt dead and thus killed the assasin, chipp originally went after them for revenge but then found peace by throwing himself deeper into his masters teachings. He also saved the president of the reformed USA later on and decidet that he also wants to be president, to improve the world, so he goes to a lawless area in japan, declares it the "Eastern Chipp Kingdom" and trys to rebuild japan there but solely based on the very few things he knows about japan... (its very cliche ninjas and samurai stuff), btw Japan was literally whiped of the map during the gear war... But Chipp does improve life there and provides a place for people who didnt have one. Otherwise hes just a superhero Ninja man very simple. Axls theme is a representation of his constant uncontrollable time jumps, hes a timetraveler from the 90s who wants to go back but cant controll his time traveling so he just pops in and out of time. Hes not too bothered despite this trying to enjoy life as best as he can despite the constant time warping. The end of the song is a representation of him getting some controll over his powers. Idk about Mays song... Shes part of a group of sky pirates consisting of 11 girls named after each month (except december), who are lead by Jhonny who is a badass cowboy samurai dude that weilds a cane sword and allways wears sunglasses, a black cote and a wide brimmed black hat, he looks like a rockstar.

Axl is a time traveler, Chipp is a recovered drug addict ninja that is also a president of his own country, May is a Japanese super powered orphan pirate. You are now more confused, your welcome. But seriously, all these characters have some messed up past that they are either over or getting over. Like Maya is a really cheery girl despite Japan....exploding. Mainly because that pirate gang she is part of became a new family for her. Chipp went from an addict to a ninja and after that, he proclaimed he'll be president some day. Seems outlandish but hey he did it. He's that impulsive anything is possible guy and he makes it happen. Axl was a gang leader but he was caught in a time slip so he kind of falls randomly through time. He's gained control of his powers since then but kind of lost his place in the world. In Strive he was more trying to help I-no not be, well a power hungry mad woman, but even in that story he's kind of out of step with everyone. Which is why his song is all over the place.

While the man will always think of her as a daughter, May wishes to be more to him and though she knows it might be wrong of her to force herself on him, she's too passionate with her feelings to leave things as they are

I think the rope belt on chipp is a religious thing from Japan. You usually see them on things related to Shintoism I'm pretty sure. Now I'm not 100 percent on this so if anyone knows please correct me. I'm actually curious about it myself.

I have been sooo excited for another guilty gear theme video from you both If you keep going then I can’t wait to hear some of my favorites like The Circle or Mirror of the World (Side note for mirror of the world, while I do love the channel that you’ve been using for these reactions they really butcher the lyrics for Mirror of the World so I recommend using a different video for that one or looking the lyrics up after or something if you end up doing it)

As someone who plays chipp inthe game the some is quite literally his playstyle. he has the lowest health in the game but the fastest/versitale movement. just imagine being super fast but you do small amounts of damage from the rest of the cast. You have to constantly fight like a tiger fly fast as an eagle and overwhlem the competition. Because if you don't Everyone in the cast can, have and will continue to one shot/ end your life. So as a chipp player i'll fight them all til I die.

Axl is a cursed with timeline warping abilities who is trying to get back to his girlfriend back in the 90s. That ADHD brain is him trying to keep a positive, laid-back attitude while dealing with powers that until now we're mostly beyond his control. Chipp is a former drug addict and dealer from the USA turned ninja by the master who saved and got him clean, to PRESIDENT of his own East Chipp Kingdom (yeah, don't over think it😊). He is my other Main aside from Ky Kiske. May is a teenage Air Pirate and second in command of a mainly all female crew of the "robin hood like" Jellyfish Pirates. She's also japanese, which at this point in the time are a dwindling ethnicity as japanese was destroyed by the GEARS and the remaining live on reservation like refugee camps.

I really reccommend Leo's theme. It's lyrics are really emgaging and contrasting to the character's outward appearance and demeanor, while the sound of the song itself is very fitting for how he carries himself. No spoilers for the context

Chipp's theme, Play the Hero, talks about his tenets as a ninja and his beliefs about life. Prior to becoming a ninja, Chipp was a drug addict in America that eventually began learning how to become a ninja in order to cope with drug withdrawal. He eventually beat his addictions, and dedicated his life to studying the ways of ninjas; though, due to Japan being eradicated in the Guilty Gear universe, his view on ninjas is HEAVILY stereotypical and his understanding of Japanese is extremely poor to the point that he blurts out random Japanese phrases during fights that make zero sense. Eventually, he finds unclaimed land in South Africa and claims it as his own, building and founding the Eastern Chipp Empire. It's actually quite a successful country, with the citizens electing Chipp as the president every time the elections come up because of how well he treats everybody.
