If Mr George Mackley our Headmaster (who was a famous wood cutter and printer,)- was still alive, I wonder what he would have to say about Jeff Beck being one of the greatest Guitar players! I felt that eff was going to become a good player at school. When I heard him at aged 14 years when the class were all a year younger at Sutton East, try to actually make a guitar. He came in with a jumble of wires and bits of wood, and sat on the floor of the store room and after some time there some blues notes came from from the store room! I was utterly astounded! How had he done that? We were all 13 years old and a year younger than Jeff Beck who had arrived late ion the year. We did not live in the modern world of miniature radio so it could not have been that but about 6 blues notes came from where he was sat. I was excited to hear them because I loved the blues, and felt sure that Jeff would be famous one day! I was too shy to tell him. I felt that he would be one of the best, because he was so determined to make this guitar. I knew something about determination because I played the piano. I did not know his mother was a pianist like mine, and that Jeff had to learn as well, but when I heard his history it all made sense to me and I was suer that he would succeed. There is no doubt he is the ultimate! The first album I ever purchased when I was a teenager and started playing the guitar was WIRED, and it still blows me away. I had the ultimate surprise some years ago when my wife said we are going to Auckland (NZ) tonight (2 hours drive each way) would not tell me why and while having dinner she confest we were going to see Jeff Beck in concert, what a great day and a great wife:-) I will never forget this!

“I had the honor of working with Jeff in the studio, &, without him realizing it; I got lessons from him every day. I got to sit beside him & hear take after take - he never played the same thing, but everything he played was brilliant. As far as I am concerned, Jeff is god’s guitar player. There isn’t a soul alive who can touch him.” Steve Lukather - Toto

Jeff Beck is an innovator, a true stylist with an endless imagination. I always found it interesting that Beck lived in the shadows of Page and Clapton, not for the lack of talent, more due to accessibility of genre. Of the three names I mentioned above, I find Beck to be the most interesting and evolving guitar players in the lot. A true inspiration.

I recently saw Jeff live at Jones Beach on Long Island . I had FIRST seen him with Rod Stewart and the Faces about 50 years ago ! And in numerous lineups over the years . Having seen Hendrix THREE times and a HUGE list of people over the years , many had an abundance of talent . But in my opinion , Jeff is right there in a handful of the VERY BEST ! He keeps growing and innovating as a musician . Plus , the material he is doing LIVE is on another level ! THANKS JEFF !

One of the greatest Rock guitarists who ever lived and perhaps the most consistent taking risks and trying new things who has remained truly vital relevant and fresh throughout his career. One of the funniest things i ever heard was by Jeff himself who, after hearing Hendrix said something to the effect:"I wonder if they're hiring at the post office." Fortunately for us they were not hiring.

We shouldn't compare ourselves to other musicians for one reason and that is that we are far too critical of our own playing. Clapton and Beck thought that their careers were over when Jimi came to town but after they met and started talking guitars they all realized that all of them were listening to each others' work , isn't that cool, to be a fly on the wall, that night

It's not the case that "Jeff Beck will probably go down in history as one of the greatest guitarists in the history of rock 'n roll", as poorly worded as that quote is. "Probably"? "Will"? "Rock 'n roll"? The undeniable fact is, he has already accomplished becoming one of the greatest guitarists in the history of MUSIC. It is done. (I refrain with difficulty from saying "THE greatest" to avoid starting a firestorm of debate.) We are just beyond exceedingly fortunate that we get to witness, in the flesh, a living legend continually inventing, creating and adding to his historical legacy.
