I don't know why youtube results are full of Marty or Andy guitar tutorials, those are awful to learn, you are awesome Ryan, you made it very easy for a beginner like me, I've been working on learning this song for few days to the point I almost gave up, your teaching style is so smooth and catchy I almost cried, thank you so much Ryan

Andy is good, you as you've said in your comment you give up because you're not used to putting effort in which both creators do and you think that watching a tutorial on youtube makes you a guru on the spot, you need to learn more if you want to know more

Theyre not awful. Marty had started pandering too much to the people in the comments who just came to leave sob story comments about how hard it was. He was giving too much time to explaining the fingerings of basic open chords every video, and the solo line instructions would plod on forever. Then he had to pander to the people who insist that he play every song in its entirety to hegin the lesson. He seems to have moved away from that as of late and is more streamlined. I personally dont see the point of the playthru. The guy has thosands of lessons and his accuracy shouldnt be an issue. The best way to learn is to dive right in with as little talking as possible. Ryan does a great job of balancing the witty rapport with the meat and potatoes of the lesson.

If I could learn it on my own, I would. Just like my Lisa Loeb request. Even my tin ear knows it’s wrong. Strumming is not too hard for me, it’s the right(or close to) notes I really struggle with. Anyways, just suggestions. One day, I hope to teach also. And, I’m happy to say, you have helped me. I’ve been idle and since, trying to get back, being so nice and patient is a real gift. That has helped me more than I can say.

Talk about timing, Ryan - Dookie was recorded 25 years ago (Sept-Oct 1993)! One of my favorite albums. Bands like The Ramones, Green Day, among others, showed me that playing guitar was within my reach plus the songs are great! A lesson request, Ryan: I'll Stick Around by Foo Fighters maybe for a future Throwback Thursday lesson...Thanks!

Question. If we're only playing power chords and we're not going lower than the low E, why do we need to detune one half step? Couldn't we just play everything up one fret? A few other Green Day tutorials say to do this too so this is why I'm wondering. Thanks Ryan!
@RyanLendt
@RyanLendt Жыл бұрын
you can't do the solo quite right in standard (the way i taught it anyway - it's actually a little different but i like this way) and since all of dookie is a half step down I prefer to honor green day's preferences. But yes, you go right ahead and do that, you have my blessing :)
@RaffLagatta
@RaffLagatta Жыл бұрын
@@RyanLendt thanks Ryan. Yeah, I remember the first Green Day power chord song I learned was Oh Love and even tutorials for this say to go down a half step but the entire song is power chords and you don't go lower than the bottom E. So why detune? Grrr. But yeah, if there's more going on in the song then yeah by all means.

Not sure when they would have sold out. I mean sure their sound has changed, but not a ton. The production got a lot better but that comes with more money. Also seems silly to want someone to write the same music they did when they were 18 when they're almost 50. ANYHOO...coincidence as I was just listening to Dookie this morning! Amazing what this guy can do with power chords. If you're gonna do Green Day I'll throw a request for a "One of My Lies". My favorite of their catalogue.
@RyanLendt
@RyanLendt 6 жыл бұрын
i mean, some folks view a progression towards pop as being less tasteful. It's all subjective. I personally enjoy poppy music to a point. For instance, I think Train went way overboard with it and now they are crap. That's my personal opinion of course, but their are probably more popular than ever before, so I'm sure they are happy. Matt Nathanson (one of my faves but I'll never admit it) is about as poppy as I like stuff, and his new album just got a smidge more poppy... which has me worried about his next one. I hope he puts the brakes on. Anyway, green day started out miles away from pop so even their progression has left them FAR short of Train, and like you said, a lot of it is in the production, which, who knows whose decision that is for them. I happen to love playing any and all green day. LOVE. I'm glad to see this video was received with open arms because there are tons of their songs that are an absolute riot on the guitar. To make a long story short, thank you for the second green day request!
@patprime7320
@patprime7320 6 жыл бұрын
@@RyanLendt Agreed. I do think Kerplunk was pretty poppy though. Really just 1039 Smooth..Dookie and Insomniac feel less poppy. The rest of their albums I always felt leaned more towards a more pop sound. Which like you I do not mind at all! Though you can go too far, the Last Weezer album (Pacific Daydream) heads way too far in that direction for me (the first time I can say that about them). Regardless go "Green Day" they were my second live show ever (even got me on MTV crowd surfing..well falling) so the more Green Day the better as far as I'm concerned. Nimrod has some absolute treats to play.
