yo i forgot this taught me those weird harmonic moves when i was like 13 or 14 watching this learning guitar. i learned a lot from this series as a budding guitarist especially from the josh homme and billy gibbons ones! im 25 now and still making music and STILL using a lot of the moves i learned from this show! i produce my own records and play shows now too! thanks for doing this and i love that ur reposting the old ones, but would also love for you to make some new ones too! thanks for your service mr. sweeney!

Same here, The one with Dean Ween is too cool. I think it's the best interview ever with a guitarist, they were buddies in high school and it really shows in that interview. The one with Cass McCombs and Courtney Barnett/Kurt Vile helped me lots with basic open chords, I learnt power chords before any of the "cowboy chords" so my learning curve was quite different starting guitar. Some of my favorite solos I've written have had that Blake Mills sitar bend. The Josh Homme one helped craft more original solos too

Cellist here - natural harmonics = open string, lightly touch the string to make it wave - halfway up the string is octave, there’s another at a fifth, and a fourth, and a third (talking steps from the open string here so on A string, A, E and D and even C#). Then a “false harmonic” or “double harmonic” means you press down the string fully usually with your first finger or thumb - and then lightly touch w another.

Those "debussy voicings" are extremely gnarly minor 11th chords i.e. the octave-4th is stacked on top of a minor chord shell voicing. I did not know that kind of sound existed without open tunings. Wild. So much to learn. Playing those chords hurt my hands tho XD

I’m six years younger than St. Vincent but also started taking lessons at zoo in sixth grade. I don’t know if I would call it shitty but there was a better guitar store connected to it called spier music which I found kinda crazy. It was one of those shops you don’t see anymore that only had those 80s and 90s shredder guitars like the warlock. I never really see those guitars even posted online I wonder who ended up with all of them.
