In this 3 DVD set Tom Feldmann covers every aspect of Robert Johnson's playing. Each song is performed by Feldmann before he dissects the arrangement verse-by-verse and ends with a split screen segment where the song is played slowly with close up shots of both the left and right hands. This is the most expansive look into the guitar playing of Robert Johnson produced in video form.
Titles Include: STANDARD TUNING: Kind Hearted Woman, Phonograph Blues, 32-20 Blues, A Blues Variations (Dead Shrimp Blues, Little Queen of Spades, Honeymoon Blues), I'm A Steady Rolling Man, Sweet Home Chicago, Love in Vain Blues, From Four Til Late, DROP D TUNING: Malted Milk, CROSSNOTE TUNING: Hellhound on my Trail, SPANISH TUNING: Stop Breakin' Down Blues, Walking Blues, Come On In My Kitchen, Last Fair Deal Gone Down, Stones In My Passway, Cross Road Blues, Traveling Riverside Blues, If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day, VESTAPOL TUNING: Rambling on my Mind, I Believe I'll Dust My Broom, Preaching Blues, STANDARD TUNING They're Red Hot

Holy crap man!!!! I've listened to RJ's complete recordings at least once a week for the last 25 yrs, & been tryin to play these tunes for all those years, some I'm happy with like my Versions of the Spanish tuning songs, some I'm not so happy with ie: my versions of the standard tuned songs, I've bought quite a few books, audio lessons, & video lessons over the years. I got something from some, but very little from most. You have just nailed every sound in every bar of this tune!!

Fantastic lesson, thank you so much. I feel like I have learned more in the last 25 minutes than I have in the previous 25 years. You have got me addicted to the guitar once again, no more picking it up now and then, no more doing anything else, now that I can play this song the way that Robert Johnson played it I'll probably never watch the T.V. ever again. Thank you, God bless you.

Just thought I would let folks know that Tom and Stefan graciously post these videos to help folks get a start on these styles and techniques. But please remember, ultimately they make part of their living selling their instructional videos. I have a half dozen including Tom's , Stefan's and John Miller's all from Guitar Workshop. They are all Excellent like this lesson.When you think of what you get compared to in person lessons the prices are extremely reasonable.

@patrickfoster4586

Yep, but keeping that boogie going on the bass strings was essential for playing the "juke joints" and earning a living back then. This was literally the dance music in countless little pubs across the South. I'm really thinking the whole 'keeping the rythym going with the thumb while playing lead with your other fingers' is what he sold his soul for. Lol.

Take a look at Richard Smith's videos or/and those made by Tommy Emmanuel. The trick is to disconnect the thumb from the fingers. You are playing with 2 instruments, and occasionally the thumb of the left hand curling around the neck. Not to mention plucking with the left hand. 'Taint easy, McGee!

I'm a bit late with my comment but here it is. I'm aghast anyone could "thumbs down" such an excellent free video lesson. It's obviously a "bread on water" exercise in creating interest in the DVDs but Mr Feldmann doesn't hold back and shares the techniques RJ uses in many of his pieces. He also does it very well. Some comments below refer to the feel of the playing and getting that across in a video is worthy enough. I've been playing/teaching for c40 years and I say this is bloody good. The only thing to add is that after learning someone else's interpretation of a RJ song, listen to the various takes available and hear the differences. It's about style not rote! And there aren't that many opportunities to hear alternative versions of the blues greats. Cheers.
