I heard a story once about a traveling preacher (evangelist). He said that he had been preaching a revival somewhere in the Carolinas'. When asked how the revival went. He said that he had been preaching hard for a week and he had no one come forward at the end of the week except that little Gramham kid. That little Graham kid was Billy Graham, pastor to many, including Presidents. Hearing your Barry the Sailor story reminded me of the Graham story. Barry influenced you and you have, with your talent, impressed and influenced many people in numerous countries. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge. This is a great video. Maybe I can learn this pattern and teach it to someone one day.

I know there are folks that have issues with KZbin but without it I stood no chance of ever having a personal lesson with My Guitar Hero! Thanks YT and especially to you Doyle!

Thank you! You are such a good teacher. You have broken it down into bite size pieces! That works for me. I've tried some books on fingerstle but this somehow has caused me to take a leap forward!

I'm going to write that chart down and learn this! After years of convincing myself that I couldn't learn that song Dust in the Wind, I found through KZbin just how easy it is to play and now it's natural. This fingerstyle playing is the next step for me and I know I can do it! Your explanation of this is very concise and right on and I know I can learn it! I'm not going to convince myself anymore that I can't learn it. Thank you so much Doyle for explaining this! You're awesome!

AWESOME!!! I have been waiting for this. I have always played with a pick and do pretty good but have always loved finger style guitar. I have to develop these finger using patterns. Thank you for all you do !!!
I was in GC a week ago, Seattle. I headed for the room where all the good stuff is. Passing the low priced guitars, I heard a young guy sounding quite nice on a cheap guitar. Momentarily, he came in. Told me he had only been playing a year. He asked if I knew anything about Martins. I gave him a quick intro. Pulled out my thumb pick and demonstrated what a thumb pick can do on a D-18. I offered him the D-18, he tried it, and told me he had to get back to work. I left soon myself, and saw him over at the accessories. I told him one more thing, to check out Doyle Dykes on YT. He said "OK...I just want to get some thumb picks before I leave...!"

Thanks Doyle for your lesson on finger picking!!! I am an 86 year old retired Baptist pastor. I came across some of your videos about 3 years ago and I love to hear you play. I wish I had known about you years ago, I would have had you doing concerts in my church. I started playing the guitar when I was 11 years old and I love guitar music. GOD BLESS!! From Corte Texas.

Nice way of explaining that alternating lick. I often go for it just by ear and it sounds close but technically wrong, which don’t sound as clean as the way you show here!

Doyle, My comments will often repeat what God'voice has said through yours and your guitar. I'm still in need of prayer for my family and the emotional struggles and depression. Hear His voice, obeying, being still, and acting. Your Ricky Saggs story is now part of me hearing God. With the emphasis on "acting". So many times this is where I fail. I ask God right now to strengthen me in this weakness. Please keep praying for me and my family 👪 of three. Prayers please, thank you. Off the subject of me. Could you explain what a Wound third is and it's " benefits". And when I buy them will my guitar sound like you? Lol 😆 🤣 I know the answer to that already. But it's good to laugh.
