These videos are cool, they've only just been 'suggested' to me recently but it's great to see the bar raised for the 'reacts' videos. This is what I enjoy seeing, a person 'reacting' and explaining why something is so good with musical and technical insight. I was asked to do a video taking a look at a guitarist called 'Mrs. Smith' a while ago, I pointed out to my subscribers not to let her ability fly under the radar! It's great there's now a platform for people to appreciate your talents in an alternative way, I hope more and more people find your channel here :) (Edit: I was typing too fast and made lots of mistakes!)

The look on your face and body language during his solo is what we all do, lol. To me, every solo by Trucks is like an amazing journey, his solos are structured so well to start mellow and then soar to towering heights. It's not even about the notes he's playing at that point - we all as guitarist could play the same notes he's playing, but we could not put the level of emotion and depth he puts in it.

I was at this concert - Crossroads 2010 Chicago. It was the first time I heard Tedeschi Trucks. I had never even heard of them at the time. They were absolutely one of the highlights of star studded show. This performance transcended music and went into the spiritual realm. Listening to it now still makes my head explode! Derrick can make each note sing in a way that most players can only dream of. If you want a good laugh watch the video of him sitting and playing with John Mayer and BB King where King gives him the highest compliment a player can receive. He's just that good.

I've been lucky enough to have seen Derek since he was just 15 years old. Anybody who saw him back then knew he was destined for greatness. He already had the lineage...he is afterall Butch Truck's nephew, one of the founding members of the Allman Brothers Band, but Derek always had this unique marurity about him that was so noticeable even at an early age. I mean this dude was playing Miles Davis, Coltrane, Sun Ra and Willie Dixon like it was second nature before he was old enough to drive. Seriously, who plays complicated trumpet and sax riffs on slide guitar with that kind of authority and perfect intonation? Only Derek, that's who. I could listen to him play all day long...and have. Also, Derek's tone is instantly recognizable. It's woody, it's organic and it's pure. No delay pedals, no chorus, no overdrive, no nothing to interrupt that purity. Just an SG, a guitar cord and Derek's hands...that's it. Derek has a unique connection to his instrument that only great ones have...like Stevie Ray, Hendrix, Duane Allman and maybe a handful of others. Between his solo bands and the Allman Brothers, I have seen Derek probably 50 times on stage over the past 20 plus years, and he always leaves my jaw on the floor. When he is at the peak of his solos, there is nothing like it. Open your mind to Derek and your heart will follow. Anyway, great video and nice breakdown. Time to pick up my guitar and play along as well. By the way, to the other guitar players out there who may not know, Derek is 99% of the time playing in open E which can make it a bit difficult to play along in standard tuning... Enjoy...

The bass lines are so beautiful & carry the song. I've met Derrick, my oldest half brother was a roadie for the Allman bros from 71-74. He told me he plays in standard tuning not open tuning. He also told me he learned a lot of his playing from the players from India. Even his bass player plays lines from Indian music. That keyboard/organ player died a couple of years ago. They are the best soulful blues band out right now.

This band makes me feel the same way as you. The passion they exude just puts a lump in my throat sometimes. We might not all be able to aspire to Dereks level of musicianship, but we can all strive for that kind of passion in our playing. Some of the most memorable compliments I have ever gotten while performing weren't about my playing but about how I played my heart out for the audience. Thank you for what you do.

Oh so lucky you can see them, wow, I would love too see them. Derek is so awesome....the whole band is awesome, they are right on everytime with whatever song is being played. I wish I would of had a teacher like yourself many a year ago, I imagine I would be playing pretty good, but neither here nor there this band is the greatest I haven't heard of them in Las Vegas, but sure wish they would play here......I'll see them one day coming.......................best of luck and hope they continue their great music.........

Man, you’re really in that sweet spot of feel and theory, love watching you hash these things out and take those breaks to rip through a few bars with your own slammers. SICK

Your genuine joy for these tunes is infectious. You are rekindling my stoke for guitar again, and through tunes that I already know and love. The smile is wide.

One of the things about Derek's solos that you might want to look into is his use of "Indian Raga" type scales, think Sitar.

Your positive attitude in this video is infectious. This is also one of the best solos Derek Trucks has ever done. Still gives me chills even though I've heard this solo for almost a decade now.

Great addition/edition. LOVE how T T band reminds us how great music can still be. Plz add Trucks brilliant deconstruction of John Sebastians classic "DARLING BE HOME SOON". The perfect foil to Tedeschi's solid guitar and emotive vocals.

Very nice breakdown, I've been a Derek fanatic for past 6-7 years. Tried to learn as much as possible from his slide playing. DTB,TTB & ABB great breakdown stumbled upon this channel. Definitely do more breakdowns of his playing man awesome.

Glad to hear that you also agree that Derek is the best doing it right now (he’s the best ever in my opinion). You’ll totally love TTB live show. It’s basically a religious experience man. If you think Derek knocks your socks off in recordings, just wait til you’re there in person hearing it come directly out of the man’s amp and into your ears. It’s an unreal musical experience. You’ll be hooked.

Trucks is basically my neighbor, lives in our neck of the woods. Beautiful studio in backyard, Swamp Raga......records most all his albums there. A lot of the band lives right around the neighborhood too, so when the feeling hits everybody handy to lay it down right then.

I saw DerekTrucks play at a hotel on South Beach in Miami Florida, I believe he was around 14 or 15 years old and all the tools in his guitar bag were present even then. He has taken those tools and polished them to the point of outshining a diamond. I would give anything to see him live. The way Susan looks at him every time he does a solo, you can tell she's not only his wife but just a big fan. The way his band brings in elements of world music and even jazz, just makes it even better. Michael, I love your enthusiasm when you do these reactions videos takes it up notches. Thanks for sharing.

I saw Susan way back in 2001 in Salina, Ks. Then again I hung out with her and Double Trouble at the studio where Susan was recording her song for Chris and Tommy's album produced by the legendary Eddie Cramer
