I just saw Walter @ Yoshi's in Oakland CA. 5th time. He just dropped his 31st CD in March. A true beast of a blues guitarist. I've followed Walter over 25 yrs. A must listen to is Marie's Mood written as a show of love for his wife. Beautiful, soulful, unmistakable statement of the depth of his love for Marie. Long live Walter Trout 💕💕💕

Walter is one of my absolute favorites. If you ever get a chance to see him live, he plays with this level of dedication the entire time. Live trout 1 "Reason I'm Gone" is a great place to start as well as many of his older albums with the Free Radicals. He's a classy guy too. At a break during one of his shows, I asked him how he does the volume knob stuff, he grabbed his guitar and showed me right there.

Amazing song, had the pleasure of seeing Mr Trout play this live a few years back - an inspirational story behind it with having to relearn to play after a quite serious illness - and this is the result -amazingly played

His Liver completely failed and he was very lucky to survive if it were not for a fundraiser supported by his fans . Couldn't walk or talk, or play guitar, which he had to relearn.

@@Guitargate I saw him play in Holmfirth UK and he must have lost 100 pounds - had to play sitting down as he didnt have the strength to stand up. I dont know how he got through the gig. His insurance company refused to pay for his medication or liver work because he was an alcoholic 30 years ago. We all thought he would die. There were benefits and auctions etc and eventually enough to get the surgery. A true legend and I have never seen anyone of any genre give as much as he does on stage.

Walter is worshipped here in England. I've seen him on eight occasions live and he is amazing. The most memorable gig (for the wrong reasons) was in 2013 when Walter was seriously ill and in need of a liver transplant. Despite being very ill and playing some of the performance sitting down he still put on a great show. Thankfully he had his transplant in the nick of time and has made a complete recovery. He's back playing and singing as good as ever, and releases a new album in March with the great Beth Hart guesting on one track. He always does a meet and greet after each gig, because he genuinely loves his fans.

Walter is one of those guys who learn his craft directly form the guys that did it in the first place,very underrated I had the privilege of seeing him live once, we are lucky he's still with us he almost died from liver failure several years ago.if you get a chance go see this man live.

Fifth of your 5 chord just clicked for me. You've mentioned that and mentioned that and I've always favored the 2 in a 1,4,5 without even really realizing it. But when you played that 2 and then played the 5 chord it was like a light bulb went off in my ears. So awesome thank you Michael

KZbin has opened up the access to all manner of great music. In the era in which I grew up it was word of mouth and radio air play that was really our only access to great artists. There were no doubt countless artists in the 60’s and 70’s who I wished I would have been exposed to but unfortunately was not. Thank you Michael and KZbin.

I always loved minor blues. We used to sit and talk all the time in So Cal the Bashful Bagel about how at the time it was Country Rock. OMG for two blues purists (well he did get the rap for too many notes). I just talked to him. His birthday is coming up 3/6!!!

I was honored before he went with Mayall that he would let me carry "The Baby". Of course I carried it with the latch next to my leg!!! One time his band was playing this club owned by Michael Harrah and there was NO ONE in the place and he was pissed. And Walter says "Well I called all my FRIEND and he didn't show up. Circa 1980's

Man, Walter is a special guy. I remember watching him when i was 26 with my dad who introduced me to the r&b. Walter is such an amazing player. Btw, i heard Walter was very sick (almost died) and had to re-learn to play guitar. Is this performance before he got sick or after? Rip dad! React more to him!

There's many a player that have never drawn blood from a Strat. Cĺapton for instance, has been cajoling a sound from his for decades. Walter makes a Strat wail, and there aren't many sounds like it.

Funny true story, I am in Guitar center and they are playing something on their in store sound system and all i hear is this incredible, emotional, fiery playing that literally stopped me in my tracks asking in disbelief 'WHO IS THAT PLAYING GUITAR?" the store clerk say's that's WALTER TROUT. Here i am a guitar player of over 25 years and have not heard of this guy? WTF? something is really wrong!😡 Needless to say been a major fan since! I think it is safe to say Walter is the most underrated Blues rock player ever!

Been following Walter for 7 or 8 years now. Besides being a phenomenal musician his life story (and almost death) is very inspiring. I highly recommend reading up on his battles with addiction, battles with music executives stealing from him, to a life saving organ transplant that forced him to have to relearn the guitar all over again. My man, Walter!

Like the other guys said - Subscribe to the FREE section of Guitargate - Lesson 13 Music Theory 102 is a great start. Quick lesson using C as the root. C=1, D=2, E=3, F=4, G=5, A=6, B=7... 6th degree of C is A. The 4 chord (or 4th degree) of C is F. When F is the root - F=1, G=2, A=3, therefore; A is the 6th degree of C AND the 3rd of the 4 chord.
