It’s a LIVE PERFORMANCE which was his best work it still blows my fucking mind every single damn time I could listen to it forever and forever. He was such a talent and was gone far too soon he’s so damn sorely missed I swear it’s some of the best vocals ever to bless this earth. He has such a damn way to tell stories through music. Just his way of singing I could go on a million years. I swear. RIP IN LAYNE

One thing i love about AiC is that in an environment where everyone was trying to play faster and faster, they were not scared of slowing it down without losing the brutal heaviness. This song sounds like someone is just beating their head against a wall. So much dissonance.

I mean, you right... but also, drugs. 'Dirt' is as close as anyone who was never addicted to drugs will ever get to feeling and understanding what it's like. Yes, they slowed it down a lot, but there may have been some outside influences on those tempos.

Also I will never forget riding in my best friends truck around town and jamming songs like What The Hell Have I, Grind, and Died. I have lost touch with my friend but hearing songs like I Stay Away take me way back to when we were kids and life wasn't so heavy. Love you Chris, I hope life is treating you well. You got a subscribe from me sir. This song, this band, this sound. I was having a really rough time with life and there is a few bands that I listen to when I'm finally alone with my dog that just bring every single bit of emotion out of me. The tunes just speak to me.pantera,Alice in chains, nirvana even rappers sometimes like rittz.the music just bring it out mostly because of the way the lyrics will happen to relate perfect. But Layne, and Jerry man. It's a whole different level when I put these tunes on they just bring it out. Playing these songs on guitar if I'm having a rough time with Layne and Mike behind my amp will sometimes bring it out to dangerous levels.the music is just so good it reaches down into your soul and grabs whatever is bothering me brings it to the surface and forces me to let it all out. Layne and Jerry's music Is what my feelings sound like.i get chills my heart hurts my breathing gets harder tears pour and it can make me break down really hard. And it's usually exactly what I need to mentally make it through the night and rinse all that bullshit off my mind and soul. If it wasn't for Layne's voice doing that for the last 25 years to me I probably wouldn't even be here typing this right now. There is nothing on the planet or in history that will ever top songs like this for me.

Name an entite decade that had more masterpieces than just the 3 years of ‘89 - ‘92… You can’t, not possible, the list of extraordinary albums released in that period of times is mindboggling.

I so thoroughly enjoy seeing another human being so excited and effected by music like I am! Whether it's Alice, Periphery, Tool, SRV or even Meshuggah. The emotions triggered are like nothing else. Layne will be in our hearts forever. Great reaction, thank you.

Love your reaction - it adds to the enjoyment of why I love this song/band so much. Your emotion fits the song, which of course, the emotion of the band, and Layne in particular, is what makes this so unbelievably great!!

I love the geek out moment around 10:33. I was doing it at home too! You described the broad strokes so perfectly. You're the man.

The "healthy" Layne. Haha. Contrast this to his live performances for Dirt and especially the bands last live performances in 96', just five years later from what we're seeing now (how crazy is that? Shows just how deep Layne got with the drugs and how fast).... wow what a difference. Layne was honestly one in a million. When he died in 02' I was crushed.

One of my favorites of theirs. Jerry is such a beast on guitar. In a Guitar World interview in the 90s he stated he never wanted to be a lead guitar player and said he had no idea what he was doing and never felt comfortable with his leads but was forced to figure it out because the band never found a lead and the rest of the band pushed him into it. Very interesting

I always appreciate the amazing reactions people have to this performance, but having been there, no one will ever understand the vibe. This song is powerful, but the show, as a whole, was amazing, and so much deeper than one song. Love this band

Hello my internet friend. U motivated me to start learning stuff by ear, after 3 years of my guitar journey.Surprised myself how much fun is it,after 2-3 days i started playing more melodic stuff. Started with bb king blues :) I love heavy bands such as Alice in Chains and Black Sabbath ^^

Nice choice! You're like a lot of people that were teens in the 90's, not boxed in to listening to one certain type of music but listened to a wide variety of music. Hip-hop was great then, rock, grunge, still had the Grateful Dead shows, and electronic music had gotten to another level. We just had so much good music to choose from, it's crazy. AIC was something special, but you really had to be in the right mood for them IMO, some dark stuff. Layne was a legend, sad that he lost his battle.

I can't be the only one who has seen this AIC video so many times that I automatically assume everyone in the world has seen it. But I've been a chains fan since the Clash of the Titans show in Hartford, CT. When AIC opened for Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax.

I never was a huge fan growing up but AiC has dominated my adult life. I’ve seen them 4 times since black gives way to blue but I tell you i would do anything to go back in time and see this performance live. Wow
